I was inspired to write this poem a few years back after reading some Thoreau and Whitman, and studying a little about existentialism.

Wisdom From a Tree

A tree’s weak whisper is carried on the light breeze.

Like a passing shadow it barely reaches me.

What things could a sage-like tree impart upon us?

Dwell on that thought and it seems to be thus.

Life is immortal, life will live on.

It will be so with every spring’s young fawn.

As sure as the majestic sunset and mystical dawn.

Life is immortal, life will live on.

Though plants may shrivel there will always be green.

Though ants may die they will always have a queen.

What things could a sage-like tree impart upon us?

We are as ants in this world, we shall come to pass.

Life will prevail, like the growth of the tall grass

Life cares not for death but death thrives on life.

Life is immortal, life will live on.
