By statute, the seal of the State is two and one-half inches in diameter with the following devices inscribed thereon: At the top is the eye of God within a triangle, from which golden rays radiate on two sides. Below the eye is a scroll, the Roman fasces, a bundle of birch or elm rods with a battle axe bound together by red thongs and bearing on a band of red, white and blue, the word, "Union and Constitution." The Roman fasces is the insignia of a republican form of government. The bundle of rods bound together symbolizes strength which is lacking in the single rod. The axe symbolizes authority and leadership. Below the scroll is the heraldic shield bearing across the top on a red ground three snow-capped mountains with clouds above them. The lower half of the shield has two miner's tools, the pick and sledge hammer, crossed on a golden ground. Below the shield in a semicircle is the motto, "Nil Sine Numine", Latin words meaning "nothing without the Deity", and at the bottom the figures 1876, the year Colorado came into statehood.

According to greek myth Alcyone married Ceyx who was the son of Hesperus (The bright Morning star - Lucifer) and was killed by Zeus the father of all the gods, after Zeus learned that Alcyone and Ceyx wanted to be like the Gods themselves. After his death Ceyx appeared as a ghost to Alcone and she killed herself out of grief. Out of compassion, the gods changed them both into halcyon birds, named after her.
"Halcyon" is a name for a bird in Greek legend generally associated with the kingfisher. There was an ancient belief that the bird nested on the sea, which it calmed in order to lay its eggs on a floating nest. Two weeks of calm weather were therefore expected around the winter solstice. This myth leads to the use of halcyon as a term for peace or calmness.

The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem written by Virgil in the late 1st century BC (29–19 BCE) that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.
It has been foretold that in Italy, he (Aeneas) will give rise to a race both noble and courageous, a race which will become known to all nations.

Thank you. I looked up Fasces on Wikipedia, just to get the nitty gritty. I think it's interesting that Colorado calls that eye in a triangle, the eye of God. It's obviously related to the one on the dollar bill. Did you notice the small picture of the Great Pyramid in one of my pictures, above? At least, I think it is supposed to be, on the time line which indicates when it was built.
