Gotta love Putin.

He would kick some ass in a one on one with any other world leader.

I think that is how disputes between countries should be solved.

As leader they need to step into the ring, no holds barred and fight to the death.

Less death world wide from wars but still some country pride.

USA has a problem with Russia - the Obama steps up to face Putin. Huge box office tickets right their to fund homelessness and the needy. Two birds one stone.

Putin. lol...mans a joke.

Anyhow...so ya..an australian, wanted in sweden, turns himself in to authorities in the UK

I knew somehow this was the US's fault!

Guys off his rocker....hey Putin...guess what, Russia IS like a flipping mafia rule. Suck it up, your not pure and innocent..

You don't think the US might have something to do with Assange being at the top of the interpol wanted list?

Putin is highlighting the hypocrisy of the west (and the US in particular) with that statement I'd say, the US takes great pains to remind everyone how it operates under a fair and democratic system, Russia makes no such claims, and yet both operate in a very simmilar manner when their interests are threatened.
At least Russia is honest.

thats a perfect example of what separates Putin from the west these days

t

The FT on Aug. 22 quoted Georgia's Deputy Defence Minister Batu Kutelia as saying Tbilisi had misjudged Russia, did not believe Moscow would respond to its Aug. 7 offensive in South Ossetia and was completely unprepared for the counter-attack. Kutelia said Tbilisi had made the decision to seize the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali despite the fact that its forces did not have enough anti-tank and air defences to protect themselves against the possibility of serious resistance. He said substantial foreign aid will be needed to rebuild the country's defensive capability, adding: "Unfortunately, we attached a low priority to this".

FT is finacial Times BTW

The FT said Kutelia was sitting at a desk with the flags of Georgia and NATO (to which Georgia does not belong) crossed behind him. It quoted him as saying: "We did not prepare for this kind of eventuality". He said the Georgian military felt there was only a low probability of a massive Russian counter-attack, despite the bloody way in which Russia destroyed Chechnya, on the other side of the Caucasus mountains, in two wars during the 1990s and the fact that separatists in South Ossetia and Abkhazia had Russian backing.

Kutelia said Georgian forces were unprepared when the Russian counter-strike came, adding: "I didn't think it likely that a member of the UN Security Council and the OSCE would react like this". The paper then said: "His amazement that Russia would use force against a smaller neighbour was echoed by David Darchiashvili, head of the parliamentary European integration committee. 'No one expected Russia would mobilise and invade', he said Georgia's 20,000-man army, built up at a cost of $2 bn with the help of US trainers and cast-off Warsaw Pact equipment, was organised to deal with 'brushfire' wars with separatist enclaves on its borders and to contribute to missions such as Iraq as a way of shoring up Georgia's ties with the West, not to do battle with Russia".

For seven years, Israeli companies have been helping the Georgian army to prepare itself for a war against Russia through arms deals, training infantry units and offering security advice, The Jerusalem Post recently claimed.

Hamburg - European observers have faulted Georgia in this month's Caucasus conflict, saying it made elaborate plans to seize South Ossetia, according to the German news magazine Der Spiegel on Saturday.
In a report to appear in its Monday edition, it said officials of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) had said acts by the Georgian government had contributed to the outbreak of the crisis with Russia.
Spiegel said OSCE military observers in the Caucasus had described preparations by Georgia to move into South Ossetia.
The onslaught had begun before Russian armoured vehicles entered a southbound tunnel under the Caucasus Mountains to South Ossetia.
It said the OSCE report also described suspected war crimes by the Georgians, including the Georgians ordering attacks on sleeping South Ossetian civilians.

Another difference between Russia and the west, lowest national debt in the G20 (because they paid it off in the good years rather than borrowing even more money...).

(Im not as pro Russia as it appears, but I do think Putin is a very effective leader, especially when you consider the lenghts the west went to dismantal the Soviet super sate after the fall of communism).

This is pretty hilarious in a gallows humour kind of way. You honestly could not make it up.

Russia calling another country out on freedom and transparency is the definition of the 'pot calling the kettle black'.

However, the fact that they can throw this and have a point only shows how badly corrupted our society has gotten and how far from its ideals. If we cant demonstrate a clear different moral standard between our behaviour and that of mafia states then our society is lost.

People who are bashing Putin must understand that the question is not whether Russia is or is not a Mafia state. The question is also not whether Putin is controlling things from behind the scenes. The question is do the western nations who so enthusiastically export their political system as "democracy and freedom" and cry about human right violations only to corner their adversaries, have any credibility left after the way they handled the Julian Assange.
