JCS Chmn. Adm. Mullen not only to meet #ROK counterpart today but also Nat'l Sect'y Adv. & Defense Minister. #Koreas 7 minutes ago via TweetDeck

This seems important...

-- S. Korea, U.S. agree to bomb N. Korea in case of provocations (Hankook Ilbo)

So next time NKorea does anything, the situation will escalate like never since 1953.

And that means the South will do airstrikes... using warplanes... and per the new rules of engagement, any air defense shooting at the plane will have to be taken out... meaning another escalation....

I don't believe this statement.

Few years ago NK admitted they had nukes and even tested them..
NOTHING was done.

NK says they will launch a missile into sea of Japan..
NOTHING was done.

There were SK soldiers killed on a Naval vessel about 1.5 years ago in quick battle between the korean ships... NOTHING was done.

8 months later, a SK boat was supposedly destroyed by NK. No proof but UN agrees it was NK...
NOTHING was done.

Then this bombing of a SK island, still nothing was done.

ALTHOUGH if NK does attack the South within the next few weeks, sure SK/US will most likely retaliate but the NK's aren't that dumb. They'll wait until the media dies down, the US air craft carriers go back to Japan and then they'll do it again... eventually, they will.

Probably right... but according to their new rules of engagement on the ground, the decision rests with the troops on the ground... not the political leadership/military leadership.

Let's say...

3 South Korean boats are patrolling near NKorea... and a missile is shot at one of the vessels... the two others don't have to wait ``for orders`` as it was before to do anything... now with the new rules of engagement, they can attack the site that attacked them until it is destroyed.... before they had to wait for orders to do anything. Not this time.

Or if the island is attacked again, the soldiers can fire back with their artillery, per rules of engagement, till the site that fired at them is completely destroyed... without asking any permission from the leadership.

No more political BS. Now it's ``you attack us, we kill you and whoever is standing between us.``

This is why we have to keep the pressure on them with Carrier Strike Groups in the region, bombers in Guam and constant exercises with South Korea and Japan.

If we relax, they will do something and we will not be ready to respond. That will result in a fiasco.

Nope. They were just announced this week. Up to now it was ``let the politicians decide what to do if attacked``...

But now it seems the soldiers on the ground can now fight back till the people who attacked them are all destroyed without leadership approval.

Gen. Han at news conf.: US, ROK will "respond firmly" if DPRK attacks again. about 8 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

So air strikes confirmed.

US JCS Chmn. Adm. Mullen urging more US-ROK war games. about 7 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Oh yay...

Mullen: #DPRK poses a "rapidly evolving threat." about 7 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

No they don't. The threat have always been there for 57 years. And since they're a third world cesspit they CANNOT, due to financial means and technological means be a ``rapidly evolving`` threat.

Adm. Mullen calls for joint Japan-ROK defense drills to deter #DPRK. about 7 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Yeah I'm sure Koreans will like that... or China even... NOT.

Mullen: "I only wish China were as helpful." about 7 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Trying to piss off China are we?

Adm. Mullen says China appears unwilling to use its influence with #DPRK. about 7 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Yep.

Definietly trying to piss them off.

Kyodo: #Japan gov't official cautions constitutional restraints may prevent Tokyo's joining multi-lat war games as US suggests. 21 minutes ago via web

Yeah right. What's the difference between Japan doing war games with the UK and Japan doing war games with the US AND ROK? Ah yes, nothing. I think some in the Japanese government just don't want to piss off China.

Chinese war doctrine has always been, for hundreds of years, perhaps even THOUSANDS, stability and SELF-DEFENSE. ROK-US-SK actions seems to go against that... well more than in the past anyway...but of course it's because of NKorea's BS...but it was done because of provocative SKorean exercises...so who knows who China really blames this on.

Russian jets entered airspace of US-Japan drill
Apparently it's not just China that is worried about US-ROK-Japan moves... not a big surprise considering the Soviet Union backed North Korea for 40 years and the disputed islands between Japan and Russia.

Russian ambassador urges both Koreas to exercise restraint to prevent tensions from escalating
Well they don't want war on their border, not to mention US bases.

So now the SKorean president has left the country for Indonesia... hopefully he's not bugging out.

Lee departs for Indonesia amid military tensions, political chaos at home

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak left for Indonesia Wednesday night to attend a regional forum on democracy and to hold summit talks with his Indonesian counterpart.

Lee's trip, which will also take him to Malaysia, comes at a sensitive time when sharp military tensions between the two Koreas linger in the wake of the North's deadly shelling of a South Korean border island last month. The North has ratcheted up threats of a full-blown war, while the South has vowed tough retaliation against any additional provocation.

Apparently there was a siren alert on Dec. 8 at 4AM in Seoul... saying it was an attack... but it seems it was an error and that radars had confused flocks of birds for NKorean warplanes... On the edge are we?

This all gets really interesting..Consider the game plan was to do Iran..The bunker Bombs were on Diego Garcia..Israel had her fuel supplies, and had done all the relevant drills....China thinks OH! if we dont do somewthing quick we might loose our cheap Iranian oil. So a quick phone call to NK..is all thats required to start something to change the game plan.I think Chinas played a blinder.I can't see this going wrong...anytime, It looks like Iran time!..another fire gets lit on the border with the North and South of korea .Now the CIA.Know this so... what would you do? bearing in mind America has got a lot of troops spread out. This is a chess game,on a global scale. The game might be stalemate.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Richardson to make private visit to N. Korea next week: State Dept.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will visit North Korea next week on a private mission, the State Department said Wednesday, amid heightening tensions on the Korean Peninsula after the North's shelling of a South Korean island and revelation of a uranium enrichment program.

"We understand he has confirmed that he is going to North Korea," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said. "It's a private visit. He will be not carrying any particular message from the United States government."

That is REALLY WEIRD. Bill Richardson? Really? A guy, the last time we heard about him was 2 years + ago during the 2008 election campaign. This stinks. And give me a break that ``he's not carrying a message from the United States government.``... Yeah he's just going there for fun I bet.

Either he's going to try to make a deal with NKorea... or coordinate a false-flag... or he's defecting.
Most likely a secret deal. Anyway this is really really really weird.

Korean newspapers headlines

-- US military to take action against North Korea's local provocation (JoongAng Ilbo)

As re-confirmed, the US will take part in any retaliation against the North...which is quite different than anytime since 1953.
