Illegal aliens now get in state tuition rates for college in California

The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.

In a ruling written by Justice Ming W. Chin, one of the panel's more conservative members, the state high court said a California law that guarantees the lower tuition for students who attend California high schools for at least three years and graduate does not conflict with a federal prohibition on giving illegal immigrants educational benefits based on residency.

California is one of several states that permit illegal immigrants to take advantage of lower college tuition for students who attend high school and graduate in state. About 25,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to receive in-state tuition rates in California.

A group fighting illegal immigration challenged the California law on behalf of U.S. citizens who pay the higher tuition as out-of-state students. The group won in lower court, and the state appealed.

I was born in California to parents born in USA, one of which was born in California; I'm far more legal than any border hopper and their illegitimate anchor baby could ever hope to be but they get benefits I can't.

Somewhere down the line your ancestors were probably immigrants or "illegals" at one point.. Unless you were a Native here long before Columbus came, you have no real right to tell others their not allowed to live here....

a) There are no "natives" to North America. Simply getting here before someone else doesnt make one a native.

b) North American indians didnt have any immigration laws, so none were violated, therefore no one was illegal.

c) North American indians didnt believe in land ownership, so nothing was stolen from them, as something that isnt owned, cannot be stolen.


Illegal aliens reap benefits that citizens, both born AND naturalized do not. No one should be ok with that.

Hate to quote myself but...

School is also boring because the union lead teachers have no impetus for anything more than pumping kids through the machine so the districts can earn as much money as possible. Most teachers get in to the profession to help children learn and many stay in the profession because children don't have to learn all that much any more and it's become an easy pay check.

It doesnt really matter what is happening in mexico. Whatever it is, it isnt our problem. No one has a right to come here, and as such, we have the right to demand certain steps be followed. If mexicans dont like what is going on in Mexico, maybe they should try fixing it. Our only responsibility is to secure the border by whatever means necessary.

What is going in Mexico is horrible and no one should have to live in fear or poverty. If governments were not corrupt, we wouldn't have these problems.The thing is, we have so many illegal immigrants that they are replacing our citizens in the work force by accepting sub-standard wages. The illegals are getting benefits that a citizen cannot get. You want equality, but the importance of the illegal is placed above a citizen.

Do you have any idea how many citizens are just a couple of dollars above the poverty limit? Our homeless shelters are filled to capacity. our tent cities are growing. Our people have fallen through the cracks.

What gives an illegal child the right to get the help to a college education that our own citizen cannot?

By coming here illegally, they are not checked for diseases or crimes and places our citizens at risk. We have laws for a reason.

a) so there are no "natives in the world? Getting here 10s of thousands of years before "someone else" I consider a native. Whom is native where then? Are there any real natives in the world?

b) yes they did for other tribes. One could not just go and immigrate to another tribe, the elder council had to determine if the individual should be accepted. Also, the natives, with their limited scope of the global world and other cultures, thought all followed the same laws as themselves. Natural law.


c) You are correct on this, but you have twisted the actual philosophy. Natives don't believe in land ownership, but instead believe in land stewardship ( really who owns land....we all die). You don't think if one tribe settled in another's location, there wasn't conflict???? Natives fought over land and resources just like we do now.

Just because their laws weren't debated by powdered gentlemen in the Queen's parliament, printed on fine parchment with impressive font, doesn't mean any less thought went into the general consensus or make them any less true or moral then ours. The irony is, the Europeans that came to NA and broke their own laws and beliefs to grift the locals, were fleeing the exact same thing.
