Millions To Remember Britain's War Dead

news.sky.com

Millions of people will fall silent later to mark Armistice Day.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, defence ministers, representatives of military associations, veterans and school children will attend a service at the Cenotaph in central London. Watch live here at 11am on skynews.com/liveplus

Other ceremonies will be held up and down the country to remember those who have died in battle since the First World War.

That includes the 342 UK service personnel who have died in Afghanistan.

At 11am this morning Britain will fall silent for two minutes.

Two minutes of silence to remember the many who have died since WW1.

Whatever you are doing, whatever your beliefs, i hope people respect this brief period to reflect on what people have been through, past and present.

I will be at our local war memorial, and as well thinking about the WW veterans, i will also be thinking about friends that i have lost during my service.

Lest We Forget.

Good job my friend. We should never forget the ultimate sacrifice our armed services have committed in our name since WWI.

My workplace observed the silence (I work in a college), but it made my sad and more than a little angry hearing the kids in the corridors still talking and shouting during the 2 minutes, even though a bell was rung to denote the start of the silence.

Ungrateful, ignorant little turds!!!

Rememberance Day belongs to all the Commonwealth Nations, not just Britain...

but also our ANZACs too!

Yes, we should remember the war dead. All of them, including civilians. These people died in conflicts all over the world, ripped from the comfort of their own homes, soldiers to die in battle, civilains to die in the crossfire.

May they all rest in peace.

Please remember them. No one wants to die.

Great videos. God bless you my friend.

Just two minutes of your time to remember the lives they lost.

Yes you are right, apologies for that.

I can't change the title of a news thread though, so i had to post it as what it says.

You are right though, and in the two minutes silence this morning i had many people of many ages and nationalities going through my head.

I just went to see a neighbour of mine who is his eighties. He said he felt bad because he couldn't get down the memorial at 11am because its blowing a gale outside, pouring from the heavens and he isn't feeling that great.

I smiled at him and said, "Look at your mantlepiece above the fireplace, you have war medals that stretch the whole length of your fireplace, some for service, some for bravery, and one specificaly for saving families during an incident during the war...its people like you that today is about."

He felt a littlle better after that.

My friend, please tell your neighbour that we will be thinking of him. I did my part at a memorial, in light of what you say above, my thoughts and reflections I share with him.
