This is an exclusive news from cyberpresse.ca (french news agency from Quebec, Canada)

Russia launched a rocket to orbit a Japanese satellite on June 2. Two weeks earlier, on May 19, Russian authorities had notified Canada that debris from the rocket would fall into Baffin Bay, in Canadian waters. Canada has protested in vain.

The same thing had occurred in October 2009.

For the second time, Canada announced his concern to both, Japanese and Russia authorities but the launching of the rocket took place anyway.

"According to the NDP chief assistant, Thomas Mulcair, these two incidents demonstrate that the crusade waged by the Conservative government of Stephen Harper to enforce Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic will not intimidate countries like Russia.."

"In recent years there have been a number of skirmishes between Canada and Russia. A few months ago, the defense minister, Peter MacKay had raised his voice against Moscow after Russian bombers had flown over the Arctic region. Canada had sent CF-18 aircraft to ensure that the Russians do not enter Canadian airspace."

"We will defend our airspace. We will react whenever the Russians will engage in an intrusion to the sovereignty of Canada ", said Mr. MacKay."

Sorry for the bad translations but this is an "exclusive" news, not yet available in english.

I don't know if this thread is in the right section.. If not, please move it, thanks.

Lets see ....
Canada would keep as many as 1,000 troops in Kabul as part of a plan to extend the country's mission in Afghanistan and convert it into a non-combat role after 2011, CBC News has learned.

Up to 750 trainers and at least 200 support staff would work outside the combat zone at a training academy or large training facility for Afghan soldiers and police officers, the CBC's James Cudmore reports. They would remain in Afghanistan until 2014 at the latest. source www.cbc.ca...

and this..Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen Wednesday his country's relations with the alliance had become "more productive and intensive."
source english.people.com.cn...

and here ..MOSCOW: NATO’s chief will ask Russia on Wednesday to boost cooperation in Afghanistan, as the alliance gears up for a summit this month to which it has invited its former Cold War rival. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev plans to attend the Nov. 19-20 summit in Lisbon, which will develop a new strategic plan for the 28-nation alliance, though he has said Russia needs more answers on its role in European security matters. NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will hold talks with Medvedev tru on expanding supply routes to Afghanistan and providing Afghan soldiers with Russian helicopters and counter-narcotics training. source www.dailytimes.com.pk...

So let me think...Canada wants to stay to train the Afganstan army..The country that Beat the # 1 or 2 superpower in the world ...sure ....Russia is going back in Afganstan to supply Nato troops..sure..
The Canadian government said Friday it plans to spend $9 billion to purchase a new generation of fighter jets, the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.

Military analyst Mercedes Stephenson told CBC News that the purchase is "absolutely necessary."

She added: "We have to have fighter jets. Canada is a massive country, and when you think purely about response times, there is nothing else that can get across the country as fast as a fighter jet.

"Also, when you are dealing with the Arctic, there is very little that has the kind of survivability of a fighter jet in the air under those kinds of harsh conditions." source www.cbc.ca...

Its all a big money making game that looks to enslave peoples or kill them ...its sick sick sick ...peace

Well, while I do agree with you that it is sick, sick, sick, I also have to throw this in there...

Me being a Canadian citizen, and with all the facts that are pointed out here, I have to say....

'Canada, it's about f*cking time'. Yes you are a massive country, and you have most of the worlds remaining natural resources. Yes we seen how well you did throughout this global recession, and managed to have the strongest economy within this recession, even though you once were so heavily dependent on the USA.

The US went to the sh*ts, you pulled into 1st place as well for having the strongest banking and credit system, and broke away from being the handicapped little USA. Good job. Now spend some money on your defenses, and stop buying the US's retired machinery. If your going to be a world player like it looks like your aiming too, and since you've been heavily involved in the War in Afghanistan for almost a decade and dabbling your secret hands here and there exercising your military, even though your citizens were against it, but you did it anyways, you might as well be spending some money in these areas.

p.s. if the US goes down, they won't be able to watch your back anymore because they will have already moved their army somewhere else on the globe. they will sell you out, like they always did... Go Canada

There is a level of nationalism in Canada that i never witnessed before. This country grew a pair in the last decade all because of the war in Afghanistan. I can see new towns built in the north along the traditional North West Passage, the town of Churchill is going to be refitted to be a major base. The plus side, we get new jobs and whole new territory to exploit that comes with the price of protecting the north. The down side is obvious.

I'm Canadian too and I agree, it's about f*cking time! US is in troubles big time and we have to built our military. We just fail to win a Security Council seat. US doesn't even care any more. We can't count on them to defend us in the artic. Worst, they could as well be against us and try to take OUR ressources.

Thanks for drawing attention to this particular Russian launch track. It is unusual but has been chosen more often in recent years. The rocket, still coasting up to orbit, comes right down across Hudson's Bay and the US midwest. Peacefully, of course.

Yeah but the thing is, the debris fall on canadian territory and Canada asked them to stop it (Both Russia and Japan), twice, but they still do it.

Guess what genius, every time we go in to Nato exercise and even though our Navy fleet is aged, battered and a Frankenstein"ish" rebuild of submarine and other boat parts, we still kick the U.S.'s a$$ every time out at sea. Imagine what we could do with real equipment!

We NEED the F-35, no question about it, it's a must, the F-18s are costing more in maintenance fees than the cost of a new one. Canada needs to wake up from it's peace dream and start re investing in the military. The north needs protecting, that North-West passage is crucial to the Canadian economy and sovereignty.

When a Country like Canada is being disrespected as it is by the Russian and Japanese governments like it is now, it's time to put the foot down and stand out ground. We can not let them "school yard" bully us around like that and we can not depend on anyone to protect us no more.

P.S. We have not grown a set of brass ba!!s during the last ten years, we always had them but the dayum Liberals kept holding the people back.

Not only do you have a military but a darn good one you can be proud of. I took part in joint ops with them while I was in the Navy. Outstanding group.

As to whether we would stand with our Canadian brothers and sister............YES.

We are better than the US military. We just don't have the numbers!
Now we need the better equipment to which they happen to be one of the suppliers.

I don't see Canada as a real country. They have no clout and are socialists; something like a socialist version of Switzerland. And, their notable world players (i.e. Maurice Strong and David Suzuki) are pro-NWO/UN. They also hate the US as evidenced by their statements and positions (no need to cite references as they are endless).

Canada needs to get a grip and stop complaining about the US. Wasn't the post about something Russia did? And, the canadians have to gripe about the US...so very typical, eh?

Where in the world do you see that Canada is bitching about the U.S. ??? And...Hummm..How can I say this without offending anyone here but you????? " Canada isn't a real country" What the f*ck are you talking about?? A socialist lefty country maybe but still a country that values human life and rights more than any other next to the Swiss! Of course when you take these two numb nuts i.e. Maurice Strong and David Suzuki in to your seemingly trying to be intelligent argument that has nothing to do with the original topic, you might actually think that all Canadians are like them two socialist extreme left idiots !

Now please....This is about a Canadian problem with Russia and the Japanese.....Nothing to do with my favorite neighbor and my brother in arms so get off your damn high horse and get some fresh air, might actually get that brain of your some good....LOL

There's really no good reason for Russia and Canada to be at each other's throats. This incident demonstrates the need for a combined space agency or combined military command, so that all arctic nations will know what the others are doing.

Maybe after the "Wikieleaks" Diplomatic Scandle,, Ottawa might be better of siding with the Russian's.

Trudeau would have.

Nahhh...We have no time for satellite launches and all that crap...Private industry is taking over that part of the market, no need for government to get involved in that no more. Canada builds robot arms the popular "Canadarm" from the shuttle and now the two for the space station.

It's clear that Russia wants the north-west passage for it's own and is going all that it can to claim it, even dropping a flag at the bottom of the sea in a stakes war of public opinion and claim. They are there with nuclear subs under the ice "patrolling and listening and mapping, make no mistake.....There will be political spit everywhere over this one, As for war blood.....I don't know but I can be sure that Canada will fight tooth and nail to keep that passage as CANADIAN !
