Do you think it's possible to change your sexual preferences? In other words, if you are attracted to men, can you be counseled into only being attracted to women and never be with another man ever?

As for your question, take a look at some of the links in my previous post with the word myths in it. The New York one discusses it a bit I think. There's lots of studies around that will be much more informative than emotive half buttocked responses you might otherwise receive.

By all means stick to your guns, but please do it whilst being aware of the information from the experts.

Branding them won't prevent them from assaulting children. Sure, people will look at them and recognize who they are, but it won't physically stop them from doing anything. I could see this leading to even worse crimes done out of anger and contempt for the system after being publicly marked in such a way. In my opinion, the best option is to separate them from society so that they have no possibility of contact with children.

Not so much in favor of branding them. I would lean more towards life imprisonment with no possibility of parole or death penalty. That way, even though the reported recidivism rates are low, we would not have to worry about them re-offending and a clearer message is sent to those that are predators. Serving a few years in prison doesn't seem like a good deterrent to me.

But Certainly, Adding Legislation to Government Code for the same crime TWICE, seems a tad Redundant, at the Least, to me.

I do agree that most offenders are relatives though, that's who got me.

We have a system for handling the problem. It's called the courts, and incarceration for the guilty.

Do a little search on how many children have been brutally raped, and killed, by RE-OFFENDERS, who've been through the court sytem over and over and over again, and then try and tell me the 'system works'... lol

Im all for stricter laws for pedophilia but the problem is we go after too many people on these witch hunts, and so many non pedophiles are being arrested. These people should not also suffer the harshest punishment like true pedophiles should.
Nature tells a man to be attracted to a woman. The younger the woman, the more attractive (fertility, ripe beauty, etc). How do we define a woman? Nature throws out obvious signs. Pubic hair, voice change, etc.

So if we can truly go after only the sickos that target legitimate underage people, then lets increase the punishment. Its the "no ones gonna touch my princess" unrealistic attitude that enables these real pedophiles to get away with the crime relatively easily.

Just the other day there was a story of an 18 year old with a 15 year old. A "child molester" to the witch hunters but not nearly as bad as the true molester (i.e the man who talks a pre-pubescent girl or boy into sex). So as long as the teen gets a lighter sentence, why wouldn't the true sicko argue for a lighter sentence.

Lets only get the people who truly commit crimes against nature! Then we have a clear template to increase penalties for them!

Use some logic. Please. You've gone through something terrible. This doesn't make you objective.

Ask my Grand Mother how crossing the road is safe. She was hit by a bus. Perhaps we should ban buses? If anything being paranoid about strangers just makes our society less safe in my opinion. I also believe strong appeals to emotion make our society less safe. 9/11 and Afghanistan? That was a pretty emotionally charged move.

And which article were you looking at? And where did wikipedia distort its statistics?

I'm going to skip the bureau of justice statistics - I seriously doubt they let pedos publish articles there.
The New York State of Criminal Justice Services ... written by pedos? No. And references are there..

For the reform sex offenders link ... Most of their stats are from the bureau in the first place. All stats and studies in that article appear to be cited clearly for you to check. The rest of it is opinion and interpretation which you don't have to share but it at least gives some information. For the record I don't agree with certain opinions by this page but it provides an overview.

Wikipedia is cited. There are plenty of resources that disagree with what you say about wikipedia, but even then it's numbers ... numbers that agree with its references ... which agree with other studies on the same topic.

The Australian article has over 8 pages of end notes and citations ...

Am mainly targeting persons making sweeping incorrect statements involving mathematics. You can't just say 'sex offenders reoffend again and again and again' and not back it up.
