I do not watch porn. However, I do not believe that rape is caused by looking at porn. Rape is not based on sexual feelings. Rape is about power and control. It's causes have nothing to do with watching porn.

This statement is illogical. Porn influences people in a variety of ways. Someone who may never have thought of rape before watching it, may then become fixated on the concept after experiencing the high of fantasizing such power and control possibilities.

As for the statistics, there are far too many variables to the evolving complexity of societies over the last several decades to say with any confidence from these results that the rise in watching of porn has caused a decrease in rape. I can show you how our hormones have been whacked out over the same time period, and testosterone levels have dwindled. Wouldn't that be a factor to consider as well?

You are right, each situations is different. However, the OP is making a very broad claim and I am asking for some links/sources to back up his claim

Lol, aren't you, like, a mod?
Are you really this bored?
I don't understand the strong feelings, but I'll try to be respectful and believe your reasoning isn't childishness.
I'm sorry I didn't clarify exactly what I meant...

Yeah, I read that rape has gone down since porn......what I didn't factor in on my post is that technology has risen.
To be simply put, it's harder to get away with things.
I was discussing that with someone a moment ago.

Indeed, rape is about power and control, selfishness.

Porn IS about the same thing...well, in some cases.
They have a porn for any fetish you may have.
Maybe a guy likes someone to be choked to death during intercourse, for example...they got it.
Child porn, rape...anything.

Most of porn is acted out, and thus harmless, but what psychological affect does it have?
That's really what this discussion is about.

I wont "duke it out" with you, but I can tell you that my position isn't to be defiant or offend people, so to continue this would be pointless.

I sound sarcastic...I know, I just feel that you're going too far with this.
It's not a silly "claim," it's something real, something worth getting opinions on.

It might be a tender subject that sparks up some personal feelings from in yourself, but I assure you that it's worthy of being discussed.

Actually pornography would have the opposite effect on rape. Here's an example:

We have two men.

One has no internet access and no access to pornography and therefore never gets off unless he has actual sex, something that can be difficult to get if this person doesn't have the patience or social skill required.

Man number two has access to all the porn he wants and uses it to get off on a regular basis and is therefore satisfied even when he's not getting any real sex.

So which is more likely to commit a rape? The one who's sexually frustrated or the one who has all porn he needs only a few clicks away?

Now of course porn isn't going to get rid of rape completely but personally I think it helps more than hurts.

Internet Pornography Prevents Rape

What you are claiming is no different than the claims that violent video games or Looney Toons cause violence. In actuality I feel there is an opposite effect. Violent films and games help us release any violent angry feelings through a kind of Catharsis. In the same way sexual frustrations and fantasies are released with porn.

All crime is decreasing..

I didn't really think this would be an issue.
Technology increase + more arrests = less crime[such as rape].

And the growing population creates a different statistic.
It's decreasing when factoring in the majority of people now in the world.

Otherwise, it's...well....higher, but on a scale of more people, we're doing good.
See what I'm saying?

Statistics...are statistically inaccurate.
No, I wont prove it, nor do I know if I can...this isn't first grade...so I'm really just not going to bother with it.

Which one will be more likely to commit rape?
The one most exposed to it.

Thank you.
You've made a very good view point of the subject.

I don't think porn is dangerous in the way portrayed in this thread. If anything I believe it may have the opposite affect. The fact that you can get porn that depicts rape would, in my opinion anyway, decrease the chances of rapes. The person that may have the fantasy of raping someone can get the fix by watching the videos of people being raped.

Now I am not saying that it is a good thing I am just saying that I personally think it would decrease the number of rapes as it provides an outlet for some that could have the urges to do it. It wouldn't end it but I think it would add to the decrease in numbers.

There are numerous studies which show a link between expose to violent films and games and aggressive behavior. I don't understand why people still think otherwise.

The one most exposed to it.

Porn is not rape. 99.99% of porn depicts sexual acts between consenting adults who offer over the top performances of just how much they are enjoying themselves. The vast majority of porn therefore cannot be called being exposed to rape. Unless you are suggesting that being able to enjoy porn and being exposed to sexual images is somehow more conducive to rape than being deprived of sexual images and sexual pleasure. In my opinion it seems obvious that being sex deprived (including being deprived of porn) is more likely to make a rapist than being able to get off regularly.

Your confusing porn with rape. Rape is an act of violence. Porn is good clean sex.

Doesn't matter what the porn is, it doesn't increase violence. Only violent acts increase violence.

Uhh..no, not really. I think you didn't read enough of it. The point of the topic is to point out that pornography is unhealthy and is very influential on our only world.

And rape statistics have even gone up since then. That's the point...that porn could be encouraging it.

I want your opinions, but I also want you to know what it is that I posted.

Can you please provide the statistics to show that rape has gone up since porn has come into existance. Rape has been around since the begining of time - so I would like to see the facts and figures on this.

Just to add, porn has also been around since the beginning of time. Hell there are some cave drawings depicting sexual acts.

Look...statistics vary, you're dealing with whoever reported being raped, you're dealing with population change, technology, so you'll never find evidence of what exactly is happening or run into an accurate statistic about this.
I've explained that it's simply harder to get away with these things anymore, and so for the majority of the population, yeah, on a percentage, it appears a lower number.
Good number reading skills, people... -_-

But I'm going to assume nothing will change.

What we do know is that porn brings in way too much money for it to stop, and if it were unhealthy to the mind, maybe even helped to fuel a pervert, well, that would really hurt the porn industry, now wouldn't it?

Yeah...porn's going to stick around.

Yeah...porn's been around a VERY long time. Thank you.

So it's worthy to note that the decrease in sexual assault..and crime in general isn't porn related[AT ALL]. It doesn't mean that porn is actually having a reverse effect.

So what's to say it is affecting it?
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I think if someone used their simplest of common sense, and thought of why they don't expose their children that are early in development to certain things, certain violence, language, they would come to the conclusion that the things we feed ourselves shape us.

Now, I should probably clear up that I don't believe in depriving your children from the world...They had better get use to what they'll be going through their whole life, but let's keep them on the sane, "good guys" side, if we can.

Porn can be unhealthy for the adult mind, all the same.
