Okay. I agree with one of the comments that was posted. How is this any different from what went on in Glenn Beck's rallies? This is absolutely sickening. So people still after all this time still willing to go mindlessly support a political party? It's like you have these people organizing this rally and they're like, hey I want you all to be my slaves. And they're like yaaah! I'll be your slave! You're my master! And these people buy it! This really disturbs me.

Tapping into anger as the tea party movement has done, a coalition of progressive and civil rights groups marched Saturday on the Lincoln Memorial and pledged to support Democrats struggling to keep power on Capitol Hill.

"We are together. This march is about the power to the people," said Ed Schultz, host of "The Ed Show" on MSNBC. "It is about the people standing up to the corporations. Are you ready to fight back?"

In a fiery speech that opened the "One Nation Working Together" rally on the National Mall, Schultz blamed Republicans for shipping jobs overseas and curtailing freedoms. He borrowed some of conservative commentator Glenn Beck's rhetoric and vowed to "take back our country."

"This is a defining moment in America. Are you American?" Schultz told the raucous crowd of thousands. "This is no time to back down. This is time to fight for America."

Really? If anything, I would be calling BS on the Unions falsely propping up numbers in a rally. I wouldn't say the MSM is doing it, just the BS Unions who have systematically destroyed the manufacturing sector of this nation.

Just my thoughts on it, but hey, what do I know?

holy crap we agree agian??? i was a union member once upon a time and thats why i hate the ever lving hell out of them.

no arguement unions are a plague in this country what people fail to realize union is just another name for corporation union organizers saw a way to get their piece of the pie and became middlemen and they bank on it and they have the masses "hoodwinked" so to speak.

I'll happily agree with you both on the matters of unions. At one time they had a place and served a meaningful function. Now they breed laziness and are largely responsible for helping to destroy the manufacturing in this country. It is long past time to rid ourselves of these dreadful and parasitic entities. The American worker should have someone looking out for their interests in the workplace but responsible union leadership would recognize that they not only have to do right by the worker but also do right by the company as well. Currently this is not something they do.

LOL
Had to laugh when I read this.

Organizers insist the rally is not partisan. They say the message is about job creation, quality education and justice. However, the largest organizations, such as the AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union, tend to back Democratic candidates.

Hmmm not partisan, heeyyy riiggghhhhttttt.

"If Sarah Palin had a bright idea, it'd be beginners' luck," comedian Charlie Hill joked from the stage about the 2008 vice presidential nominee.

Van Jones, who last year was forced from his job as a White House energy adviser after Beck made public his comments disparaging Republicans, said during his remarks that progressives must stand with Democrats to put America back to work.

We really need to come together and get ALL of the trash out of DC. Repubs, and Dems.

I even read one report that that stated this crowd was apparently smarter than Glenn Beck's crowd.

Organizers claimed they had as many participants as Beck's rally. But Saturday's crowds were less dense ...

I really enjoy word play.

Good to see people fighting back against the selfish politics of the Republican party.

People who want the best for the whole Nation rather than what is best for themselves.

I always thought that a Government opposition was there to make sure the Administration in power does not abuse that power and to protect the people by watching and advising.

What I have seen over the past 2 years, is a bunch of Politicians who do not have a Nation in mind, and who do everything they can to oust an Elected President though stupid and idiotic actions that suit them best, without taking into account the damage they are causing by blocking anything and everything they can.

Not because they disagree, but because they hate the idea that Obama might just do something good, right, and moral to give America its position in the World back as a respected Nation.

I am not American, but I see the stupidity every single day, trying to block everything the White House does to make it almost impossible to Govern your Nation back to what it once was, a Nation that cared for its people.

When I see these Tea Party rallies you know what I see?

People who have had their piece of the American pie, had their pockets filled through working hard, yet when the time came to give a little back to help your Nation, they objected, and they still object, and will keep objecting, because they do not want to give a little back for its people and the benefit of the Country they scream they Love Adore and are Patriotic about.

Yet what I see are not acts of Patriotism, what I see is greed and sour grapes, bad losers who will do anything they can to remove Obama from the Presidency, I wonder if this would be happening if Hilary had become President?

If the Tea Party is so Patriotic, then why do they block everything which would benefit the whole Country? why are they so willing to see America destroy itself from the inside out by blocking every move made by the White House?

What is so wrong about working together, trying to build America into the great Nation we now see almost in tatters? a Country once well respected in the World.

Its wonderful to see that the other side have decided enough is enough and its time to stand up and take America back from the greedy selfish insanity that has turned your great Nation into one of the most mistrusted Nations in the World.

I guess we get to see America in a different light because of different information, and its great to see people telling a different side of the story, and standing up for their Nation instead of allowing it to be taken apart piece by piece.

People who want what is best for everyone instead of how they can fill their pockets.

I know where you probably get most of your information from. The thing is that the progressives aren't doing anything other than what the Republicans are doing right now. They aren't the party for the workers like they were in the 60s or the 70s. Unions are kind of corrupt right now. Rather than being a force for the workers and getting us pensions and things like that unions are a force to try to force other people to unionize when they may not want to. Unions do serve a role in helping establish equality in the nation. The thing is that unions I guess need to be more of a force for that and they do need to have power and to have a say against the corporations.. but these people at the rallies aren't for changing the status-quo.

These people at the rallies just want to protect their power. It also doesn't help them that the Democrats aren't really pro-unions, but they're really corporate themselves, so to think that the Tea-Party is somehow a breath of fresh-air, is a bit stretching out. They're all corporate stooges if you ask me.

Funny how the unions forced members to go. I wonder if they got paid also. Must be nice to get paid for helping destroy a country.

Right you are, gentlemen, about the unions turning out. You can be sure, with the kind of donations & backing this administration has, they came by planes, trains & buses ;-) being so environmentally conscious & all.
Reason.com has some video, too. And here's a little quote

"The crowd, representing a broad cross section of political left, included groups like the United Auto Workers, United Steel Workers, Service Employees International Union, the NAACP, anti-war activists, the American Federation of Teachers, the International Socialist Organization, and many liberal and progressive groups."

The true, committed political left will never amount to more than 20% of the population in the US. The mission will be to make sure that the "independents" and moderates vote to the right in order to keep the left isolated and powerless. Like an infection, after it's isolated and contained, it can be destroyed.

There are over 300 Organizations involved in this "rally".

If each can pull a 1000 members, they should easily have over 300K people. With the Unions, they should pull even more.

Their own website links their organizations: Look at them, go to the sites of these organizations :

Communist Party USA (CPUSA)

Solidarity

Committee of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism

Chicago Democratic Socialists of America

New York City Democratic Socialists of America

International Socialist Organization

Detroit Democratic Socialists of America

And people get angry and mad when we compare the Democratic Party to Communist & Socialists?

They are, they don't even try to hide it (much) anymore.

One can, after careful consideration, vote for one party or another, sometimes as the lesser of two evils or sometimes because one is in agreement with their basic goals. That doesn't make a person mindless. All the smart people are not Libertarians.

As far as all the union-bashing goes, I don't know why some on here hate the fact that some workers have organized themselves in order to get decent wages and benefits.

By the way they carry on one would think they are all owners of big corporations that yell they're going to go bankrupt if the minimum wage is raised. Of course the fat cats don't want to pay anybody a cent more than they can get away with. That's how they get their profits which make the shareholders rich.

Must be very few ordinary workers on ATS.
