Othman on UFOs and ET *Audio*

On January 25-26 of 2010 the Royal Society invited the International Academy of Astronautics for a discussion on The detection of extra-terrestrial life and the consequences for science and society. This meeting was a precursor to the upcoming meeting.

Mazlan Othman attended. While the main topic of her address was UN response to near Earth objects, she did touch on the subject of extraterrestrial life. She mentions occasions when the topic has been raised at the UN.

She describes how, in 1977, the Prime Minister of Grenada proposed the appointment committee of experts for a UN study into the origins and nature of UFOs. The effort died with the failure of the Prime Minister to be reelected. She also speaks on the UN role in the placement of the plaques on the Voyager spacecraft.

This is actually quite exciting and unfortunately i can't quote audio.
Seems like there has been an on-going collaborate effort amongst nations for years to push this through the agenda. Only to be bogged down by politics. Great to hear it come from the horse's mouth!

I don't know that discussion has been "ongoing". However, as has been pointed out, with the growing number of exoplanets being discovered comes real targets for attempts at the receipt of a signal. Rather than randomly pointing an antenna, likely stars can be selected. This increases the chances for a hit tremendously.

As was hinted at in the distorted articles about an "ambassador", the UN would be a logical body to coordinate reaction and possible response should that signal be detected. I'm quite sure that will be the topic (as far as the UN connection) in the upcoming conference.

Well, listening further I wouldn't get my hopes up from anything coming of this once she mentioned her strategy to "impress" upon the scientific community.

Heck, that's what we do here and nothing ever gets resolved.

I'm wondering why you guys haven't commented on my thought why this "ambassador" to ET won't get off the ground? Having to get the support of the scientific community to spearhead this project is only a reflection of what goes on here. Don't you agree? like two fish swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.
