Officials: NATO chopper kills 3 Pakistani troops

news.yahoo.com

PARACHINAR, Pakistan – A NATO helicopter attacked a Pakistani security post near the Afghan border on Thursday, killing three troops, officials in Pakistan said. NATO said it was investigating the allegations and whether they were linked to an operation against insurgents in a nearby Afghan province.

Shortly after the allegations emerged, two government officials told The Associated Press they were ordered to stop NATO supply trucks from crossing into Afghanistan at the Torkham border post, a major passageway for NATO materials. Earlier this week, Pakistan threatened to stop providing pro

This definantly isnt good. Im not sure which NATO country the helicopter belongs to yet. The story just came out 25 minutes ago on yahoo.com's news site, so Im going to guess more details will come out shortly.

I would guess Pakistan is problably going to retaliate, not by force, but by other means. Im not exactly sure what yet. Maybe they are not going to let predator drones fly in their airspace anymore? Just a guess.

Pakistan could cut off all US supply routes to Afghanistan, that would put NATO troops in serious trouble.

Enough with the bombing and violation of sovereignty.

Pakistan got nukes, better not piss them off too bad.

Pakistan have been tolerating that crap for so long because there was money given to Pakistan... but China is a strong Pakistan ally... and they have troops in Kashmir.

Pakistan is probably about to say SCREW NATO, I'm going full China.

Time to withdraw from Afghanistan and let the Afghans and Pakistanis alone. They've suffered enough. Iran-Iraq-Pakistan-India-Afghanistan can take care of the situation.

That's what everybody here wants, that's what everybody there wants.

The only ones who want to stay there are the stupid neo-cons and the war profiteers. Who cares if they are pissed, they can all starve for all I care.

Pakistan threatens action over NATO incursions

Not a big surprise that US puppet Musharraf wants to be president again and he's gonna launch his new party to try to do that in early October.

NATO needs to be careful that their intentions aren't misinterpreted. The war on terror is necessary, but not at the expense of a free nation's sovereignty. Even an inch out of bounds is an inch too far, and one civilian casualty is one too many.

If they have conspiracy theorists in Pakistan, their heads are probably spinning right now.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said. Pakistan is nuclear armed and I personally wouldnt want to piss them off. We need to leave Afghanistan and let the countries in the region deal with it themselves without us. I think we are pissing off the people in the region more and more everyday.

From the link you posted, Pakistan's foreign minister seems pretty serious now. I wouldnt want to push Pakistan's buttons anymore.

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's foreign minister said Wednesday his country may use military force to stop violations of its territory.

"We will not allow anyone in any case to interfere in Pakistan's territory and if this continues, we will adopt all the set measures including military action," Rehman Malik told reporters. "I assure you we are quite capable of defending our homeland."

Malik said he was referring to two incidents of aerial engagements from the Afghanistan side into Pakistani territory by helicopters with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force over the weekend, in which dozens of suspected militants were killed in what Pakistan said was its territory.

Looking at the times of the OP article and yours, Im pretty sure the article you posted was written before the chopper killing the 3 troops came out. Less than 24 hours of stating they will use military action against NATO if we dont stop violating their territory, and NATO ends up killing 3 of Pakistan's soldiers right after......What a coincidence. This dosent look good.

A friend of mine is in Pakistan at the moment, and Im definantly going to ask him about this as soon as I get ahold of him.

Yes it said before the killing of those troops.

This might just send Pakistan over the edge.

The leader might also just say that because he doesn't want to be overthrown for being a traitor... which he is to his people... If Mexico was bombing Texas and killing civilians everyday and the government would do nothing, there would be people sure as hell calling for the overthrow of the feds for being traitors.

I'm sure it's happening in Pakistan right now.

Not to mention that people in Pakistan are already freaking pissed over the floods and the destruction of the homes of millions of people and their livelihood.

I did a quick search across the net and found a few more articles.

Nato helicopters kill three Pakistani soldiers in Kurram

The attack by two Nato helicopters took place early in the morning in Teri Mangal village in Kurram Agency, an ethnic Pashtun tribal region on the Afghan border.

“The helicopters shelled the area for about 25 minutes. Three of our soldiers manning a border post were killed and three wounded,” a senior security official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Pakistan Halts NATO Supplies to Afghanistan After Attack

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistan closed a vital transit link for NATO supplies for the war in Afghanistan on Thursday in apparent retaliation for an attack by coalition helicopters on a Pakistani security post hours earlier.

Trucks and oil tankers were stopped at the border post of Torkham just north of Peshawar and it was unclear when the post would reopen, a Pakistani security official said.

A closure of the crossing through which NATO and American troops receive most of their non-lethal equipment is rare, and signaled a downturn in the military relationship between Pakistan and the United States just three months before the Obama administration takes stock of progress in Afghanistan.

NATO want to go deeper into Pakistan, that's for sure, and the killing of Pakistani soldiers so soon after the warning by Pakistan that it will defend it's sovereignty using it's military appears to be a literal warning shot across the bows of Pakistan, literally:

"We will go into your country if and when we like, and we dare you to think you can even oppose us, what are you going to do? We prop you up after all."

Literally, it's calling Pakistan's bluff, knowing their government is propped up by the US and NATO.

The problem for NATO is that Pakistan's government is already accused by many Pakistanis of being a corrupt puppet of the US that does not care for Pakistani sovereignty.

There are those in the Pakistani intelligence and military community quite convinced that the US wishes to see Pakistan weakened and undermined alongside Afghanistan for geopolitical and geostrategical positioning, hence the ties between Pakistan's security apparatus and the Afghan insurgency.

The danger for NATO is that following these accusations of being a US Puppet, following the floods and the insurgency in Pakistan itself, and to prevent a coup, the Pakistani government may order a retaliation to gain credibility amongst those in Pakistan who see the Pakistani government as weak and colluding with the US to weaken Pakistan.

At which point, the Afghan insurgency, as strong as that is, becomes the least of NATO's problems.

The consequences could be immense.

Heres a little bit more update on Pakistan stopping NATO vehicles.

Article

By late afternoon, a line of more than 150 NATO vehicles was waiting to cross the border into Afghanistan, officials said.

"We will have to see whether we are allies or enemies," Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said of the border incident, without mentioning the blockade.

The Pakistani troops fired warning shots at the two helicopters, which responded with a pair of missiles that destroyed the post, killed three of the soldiers and wounded the other three, it said.

Looks like supplies are going to be backed up for awhile.

"We will have to see whether we are allies or enemies."

A recent poll of pakistani tribal areas:
"Nearly 90 percent want the U.S. to stop pursuing militants in their backyard and nearly 60 percent are fine with suicide bombings directed at the Americans."

A perfect incubator to "radicalize" pissed-off locals.. the GOP/DNC mafia are generating future "terrorists" their war profiteer pals need, one drone strike at a time.. awesome!

Another update as of today.

Dozens of NATO oil tankers attacked in Pakistan

SHIKARPUR, Pakistan – Suspected militants in southern Pakistan set ablaze at least 27 tankers carrying fuel for U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan on Friday, police said.

The attack followed the Pakistani government's decision to shut a vital border crossing in apparent protest of a NATO incursion that killed three of its soldiers, and further underscored the risks posed to Western forces who rely heavily on land routes in Pakistan to supply their troops.
