Here's the thing, because weapons/guns do exist, then we need to make sure that we have access to them. Whether you like it or not, the bad guys are always going to arm themselves and then use that advantage to control those who don't arm themselves. As long as there are people arming themselves, you are always going to have the armed people taking advantage of the unarmed people. Sadly, you will never get rid of all guns because they are so relatively easy to manufacture. Therefore, we need to ensure that the good guys can arm themselves too, as to not allow the unarmed to be taken advantage of.

For instance, if we only allowed the government to be armed, the public at large would be taken advantage of with no recourse available. Whether you like guns or not is irrelevant because there is a difference between what we want and what is. If you don't like guns, then don't use them but whatever you do, don't prevent your fellow citizens from arming themselves because it is these citizens that stand between your complete domination and your freedom, however small that freedom may be.

We can wish all we want that guns never existed, though that won't change the reality. As long as there is one group arming themselves, then we too have to arm ourselves to stay relevant and obstruct any kind of attempts at dominating and taken advantage of us. That is just the cold, hard reality and we can either accept it and push forward, or ignore it and be pushed backward.

Me, carrying a gun does not alter my intent.
My intent on how to live, how to share, how to love and be concerned for good things, is not altered by my rifle, or shotgun, or pistol.
That choice is made in my character way before I'm armed.
1 nuke wielded by a government does not equal 1 shotgun held by a man.

I tried to watch this video. However, when they start comparing very highly regulated corporations in America to Nirobi gun smugglers you know that it is a hack job.

The BATFE regulates gun dealers and corporations that produce or sell guns in this country. There are so many laws and regulations on guns in this country that at times it gets insane.

A registered Federal Firearms License holder must have his records ready for audit at any time. He must also take his records in at certain intervals to have them audited. He must submit to criminal back ground checks on the federal, state, and local level. He can lose his license for even simple mistakes in accounting or record keeping.

I like what I saw on a t-shirt recently.

Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is somehow moraly superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

A failed attempt at logic. Claiming inanimate objects kill people and that these objects are the source of all evil is in the same realm of idiocy and the insecure.

Firearms are tools. Nothing else.

Should we start blaming hammers or knives next? Because they have killed people too...

My point wasn't made to support a ban on weapons or saying the weapons themselves kill (the oldest argument btw). Atomic bombs doesn't kill anyone on their own, neither do guns. End of that discussion. My point was that the real WoMD are the small arms. These weapons are used to kill more people every year than all missiles, rockets and heavy artillery together.

OK I see your arguement and you have seen the replies to which I also agree.
What would your solution be?

Well. We obviously don't need all these guns. But I can't come up with a solution as to how the weapons' trade could even be touched. But it would have to include some sort of legislation, and it should be impossible to buy any gun which isn't to be used for hunting or competitions. In Canada there are just as many guns per person as in USA, due to the US gun culture, USA has way more deaths connetcted to such firearms. It should also be laws forcing people who have guns to have them in a locked safes with the bolt in another locked place. And people should rather learn defensive marshal arts if they are so paranoid that they feel a need to own guns for protection. That's a few ideas, and I guess it won't be popular among most people on this board.

I see a couple of problems here. Where do criminals get thier guns? If you were to place laws on all handguns do you think the criminals will care?
Look at what happened in england, gun control more violence, that is the outcome and always will be. Criminals obviously dont care about laws and they will always find ways to obtain guns no matter what. That is what criminals do..they break laws and commit crimes.

Please dont think Im bashing here, this is just something that you cant deny. Look at the drug trade, it is illeagel yet it is also still rampant out there.

Less guns around, less criminals with guns. After all they don't make them themselves. I would guess that most guns on criminals hands have been stolen from unsecured private homes, where guns haven't been locked up in safes. Another obvious source would be that they have stolen them from the army....

However, the main problem is how people are taught up to use these guns. Gun culture. Many American parents seem to teach their children that owning a gun will make you safer and that it is a human right to own a gun for self protection and safety. What a bunch of crap. Well, take a look at the statistics. Many innocent people who are shot, are shot with their own guns.

The guns are not to blame my friend. It's the human being behind the gun.

Geez, when are some people, obviously anti-gun, going to stop blaming the firearm and see the real issue here. It's the irresponsible, and most of the time mentally unbalanced individual pulling the trigger that is to blame.

Good day.

1st point...Per wikipedia Canada's population for 2010 estimate is just over 34 million people...USA population is about 310 million estimated...More people means more crimes total committed...not to mention canada doesnt really border any other country besides the US. The US is bordered by a country that cant even pretend to promise a good life to its citizens...

2nd point...What good is a gun thats disassembled and locked up when the murderers are kicking in your front door? Ill give you 10 years to learn martial arts...every day you practice and become the worlds best martial artist...at the end of the 10 years when you are the best martial artist EVER in the world we can meet in a field...Ill give a 5 year old thats never held a gun before an AR-15 and you try to survive...

Dude, get your head out of the sand...come back to reality...check your world history.

I carry everywhere i go. Its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

They have, they do and they will.

From a .22 zip made from a snapped off car antenna to sheets of aluminum folded into a sub-machine gun to a .50 machine gun made from pipe and welding supplies.

They may not do it so much now but once it's all they've got left the basement workshops of old will make a massive return. Some of the greatest firearms known are basement creations. The name Browning mean anything to you?

Sorry but i definately believe that more gun laws = less guns for the honest individual and more for the bad man.
As i said before, these guys will always find a way to find them.
With less guns for the honest people, the crime rates will increase dramatically, Just some common sense here.

No they dont. Many American parents either ignore guns altogether or demonize the hell out of them and shout "no, no, no" at every turn creating a vacuum of ignorance and desire.

Why when there was a rifle club in every school across the country and every kid went out hunting with his dad we never had mass shootings or ghetto trash idiots killing each other for colored rags.

If you plan to meet ignorance and fear with more ignorance and fear the stupid behavior will only get worse.

Oh my Lord...It's a well known fact that a armed society is an honest society with a low crime rate. I'm not going to stretch that and say %100 crime-free, because there are always going to be nutters who commit atrocities. This is just fact.

What are you going to do when you have seconds to react when someone is entering your house to do you harm? Call the police? Not me, I'm reaching for my Glock 30.

Stolen from the Army? That's a laugh!

Also along the same line here, the more crime there is, the more individuals will want to protect thier families from them. So they now want to get a gun for this protection....now they are criminals as well for wanting to do whats best for the protection of their family.

If you really read alot of our old documents about gun ownership it really leans more towards a responsibility to own guns not just a right...

Owning a gun?
