S Korea-US military exercise begins in the Sea of Japan

The US and South Korea have begun a major military exercise in the Sea of Japan, despite threats of retaliation from North Korea.

Amid the rising tension, military officials in Seoul said they were closely monitoring the North's military in border areas but had not detected any unusual activity in the run-up to the exercises, code-named Invincible Spirit.

I know there is an existing thread but i wanted to start this because it confirms that the exercise have actually begun...it is now underway.

Im going to be searching other news sources and seeing if anything develops. As of right now they are reporting the border is quiet. WHo knows what NK will do? Maybe they will, maybe they wont. My personal view is that they wont. At the same time if they do something they dont have to do it as soon as the war games kick off but now that they have keep your eyes open.

Probably a silly question but do any of you experts out there on ATS have any links to WEBCAMS in say South Korea or the DMZ areas?

I'm dying to find out what's going on, wish I could somehow hack into a live satellite feed of the area lol ...!!

That would be nice!!! No, just comb new sources other than the MSM that have news that actually breaks much faster. Problem with a lot of the foreign independent news sources is that they may break something then retract it for being false but there are some good ones out there.

"The USS George Washington left the southern port of Busan around 7:00am Sunday (2200 GMT Saturday). It's sailing towards the Sea of Japan (East Sea) for the exercise," a US military spokesman told AFP.

The way i see this going down. If the US DOES spot any unusual activity along the DMZ or anywhere else in the vicinity they will contact China first and say "reign in your boy". If China does then all is good, if they dont then we could have something.

The problem with the news is that in that scenario we would never know. As of right now NK could be moving things around and the US could be talking to China and China could halting it and it would never make it to the news. All we would get is "the exercise took place without incident despite North Korean threats" while all along it was about to pop off but it was contained behind the scenes.

I honestly cannot say if North Korea will be dumb enough to wage a "sacred war" on it's enemies. I won't pretend to know the future, as I am not a prophet.

However, I have this gut feeling, something in the back of my mind that says if you kick a stray dog too many times, eventually you lose your leg. I guess we'll know in a matter of hours.

I wonder just how hungry the stray dog is?

the NK war will be the sparkle... Iran will be next and there you have it

and that can happen today because of that stupid drill(provocation it is) ...
