S&F OP.

I'm disappointed in almost every comment of your post. People saying things like:

"While cap and trade is a good idea, it's being done wrong"
"Not enough time worrying about OTHER pollutants than CO2", etc.

Is everybody here still asleep?

1) Carbon Dioxide is not a pollutant. It is as necessary as Oxygen. Plants need it to produce Oxygen for us. Are you prepared to let TPTB tax Oxygen next? Remember the same putz's who are destroying the earth are the ones taxing you and blaming you for destroying the earth.

2) About 150-300 years AFTER the Earth's temperature rises, ALL THROUGH HISTORY, carbon dioxide levels then begin to rise, not the other way around. In otherwords, it would be safer to say Global Warming CAUSES greenhouse gasses, not the other way around. What causes the earth's temperature to rise? That's up to debate.

3) If greenhouse gasses were causing global warming by rising to the upper atmosphere and sealing in heat, then we'd expect the upper atmosphere to be warmer than it was before. AGAIN, this isn't happening - in fact the opposite is true, IE the upper atmosphere is actually cooler than it used to be.

3) While Al Gore might be breaking up, the ice sheets aren't. There is more Arctic ice now than 5 years ago, and the politicized scientists fudged global warming data to hide the decline of average world temperatures. Remember Climategate? Hello? Remember your intuition before climategate proved they were lying?

Earth Changes are normal, people. Don't let them convince you it is your fault and tax you for it. Follow the money and it becomes clear. Make your peace with loved ones and yourself and enjoy whatever time is left.

That is such nonsense and has been disproved so many times, it discredits the rest of your points. Sure, the area of sea ice has expanded, but the MASS has greatly decreased.

You're just repeating talking points without any critical thought.

Money just solves everything huh?
Our environment does not care if we tax
those who contribute to her demise. When
she has had enough and decides it's time
to shake us off, all the money in the world
will mean absolutely nothing.

If you check their website you will find the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) promotes a CO2 Tax. The membership in the CFR includes TEXACO, SHELL and EXXON VALDEZ.

Who would end up paying for this CO2 tax? ---- the Corporations?.... any Industries responsible for CO2 emissions? Yeah, right. I saw on TV a while back Obama giving a speech and he promised "small and BIG business" tax break incentives. You know, the old Reagan trickle down economics. Give business big tax breaks and they will add more jobs.... yeah, right. So.... us "common Americans" (as Bill Clinton once called us in a quote of his) would end up paying this CO2 tax and the Corporations/Industries would get huge "tax break incentives" leaving US holding the bag!

Another thing to at least consider....My uncle, Dr. Donald Rapp is a physicist - he worked for NASA/JPL for many years ....and still does as a consultant. He has written many books and I read on his website that he feels the data does NOT support that CO2 emissions is behind global warming. Now he also goes on to say that he is willing to change his opinion on that IF and WHEN the data would support CO2 as the culprit. But right now, he feels that the data does NOT support CO2 as the cause (more like a symptom).

Ya know, Al Gore and his fancy Powerpoint Slide Show "An Inconvenient Truth" really rails on CO2, Al Gore is a CFR member, and (the last time I checked) Al Gores website there were no less than 10 snazzy graphics pages suggesting what us "common Americans" should do to reduce CO2 emissions, like "buy a fuel efficient car the next time you want to shop for a car" and buy energy efficient appliances like washing machines and dryers, etc., but NO WHERE on his website did he have any suggestions of what INDUSTRIES should do to help reduce CO2 emissions. Al Gore also was quoted during that last Presidential campagin in 2008 stating: "I think we should get rid of income tax and on everyones paycheck there should be a CO2 tax".

I just don't trust this whole deal.....especially when the CFR endorses it, coupled with the fact that you can also check their website and find out that their core mission is to form a One World Government (which, by the way, would not be of the People, by the People, and for the People).

YIKES!

Cap and Trade = Comprehensive Energy bill = "Carbon Tax" Reid and the Democrats are fast-tracking Obama's "Carbon Tax" to double ALL your energy costs. A VOTE IS SCHEDULED BY JULY 4TH 2010 Reid plans a Senate Vote to raise taxes for Obama with the NEW "Carbon Tax". Why you ask because as Rahm Emmanuel said "NEVER WASTE A CRISIS!" and Reid promised Obama they would push the "Carbon Tax". Reid will by-pass the existing Lieberman-Kerry Bill pushed through the House by Pelosi because Reid knows he doesn't have the support of Democrats on his own side, let alone GOP Senators, to get it done. Reid demanded "swift" action forcing Senate committees to finish their work on a massive comprehensive energy bill immediately. Committee leaders Max Baucus, Jeff Bingaman, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd, Patrick Leahy, Joe Lieberman, Blanche Lincoln and John Rockefeller all received the majority leader's letter demanding action.

If your too lazy to contact your reps yourself, at-least do this! and pay someone else to do it for you!

First they talk about a fragile economic, erm, recovery and then they want to stiffle it by imposing various limits? Unless I misunderstood something, that is.

There is NO SUCH THING as an "honest carbon trade"...

Christ, are people still believing the lie that CO2 is bad for the Earth when it has been shown it is nothing but a new scam to get people to pay more taxes?.... and here i thought that the lunatic "carbon is evil church" had already been dissolved by the fact that the IPCC, and those scientists who were pushing for the CO2 scam of the century were all rigging the data, hiding facts, and evidence against their claims and discussed ways to keep people in the dark and to not allow people to learn the truth...

When did the "evil CO2 church" get revived, and how?....

This tax would increase the cost of absolutely everything. Companies will increase the cost of their goods and services to make up for the loss of profits due to the tax. It's not just heating/cooling your home and driving your car that's going to sting. Buying bread, milk, butter, meat, veggies, clothes, cleaning supplies, pet food, phone service, internet access, you name it; it'd be affected by the carbon tax.
$7/gal gas will add an upper-cut to the roundhouse that a carbon tax would hit us with.

Hey, didn't Liberals and Socialists wanted to "Socialize America?... Perhaps it should happen so they can see what their "utopia" is really like....

This kinda reminds me of that old Beatles song "The Taxman" "if you take a walk they'll tax your feet" - or perhaps, "if you touch your thermostat, they'll tax your heat"!

First the healthcare fiasco and now this - at least with that one (based on the language of the law, anyway...not sure how it will play out) I can plead poverty or religious objection to paying a tax for not having "proper" health insurance! Then you have Obama touring (yeah, like a rock musician) again touting the "success" of the stimulus and resurrecting this nonsense while he should be giving his all to clean up the gulf.

Can't this administration and congress ever cut us a break? I don't know what their motives are (causing civil war is a possibility, I suppose) but surely they can understand that you don't help someone breathe better by choking the daylights out of them. Talk about kicking the people of this country when they are down. Too many taxes suffocate prosperity like a vine suffocates a tree - it happens slowly and often with little notice, but one day the life is snuffed out of the tree by a sinister strangler vine.

I will do all I can to contact my reps to try and prevent this. I do have more hope on this one dying for good than the health care because there are already members of congress who have committed political suicide - but they just won't be officially declared "dead" until this fall. Then there are those who are on death's door but could get and seek forgiveness for that gross infraction and hopefully wouldn't dare pass this one or they will join the walking dead in congress for good.

Someone compared oil using societies to drug addicts. You know what can happen when you don't properly wean an addict off certain substances (and sometimes this takes time)? Yep - in worst case scenarios they can DIE. It's no good to detox an addict if you kill him in the process - or cause him to be so miserable that he will do anything, anything at all, to go running back to his drug of choice.

What happens when grandma freezes to death because she can't afford to keep the heat on? When more and more people die of carbon monoxide (now that's truly a deadly gas) desperately trying to keep warm? Is that worth it to keep a little extra CO2 out of the atmosphere? Or, if you are more well off, what will it be like to have to choose between sending your child to college or putting gas in the family car? These morons in congress don't think about this sort of thing.

For what its worth, I'm contacting my reps, rep and voicing my opinion.

Am I surprised, no.

I've balled my fists at the stupidity I've seen in my young years and fed up is the understatement. This sHOULD NOT PASS!

There are too many more pertinent issues before The Congress that will make sure that this does not ever see a Floor Debate.

Financial reform wind down, Clean Energy Independence is next, possibly the war is afterward. The dockett is way too full to even consider a carbon tax implementation now.

Learn what is before The Congress before trying to divert attention with nonsense,

According to analysts, conservative estimates suggest that “Cap and Trade” will cost the average American family between $1,600 and $3,000 annually in consumer cost increases!

www.grassfire.com...

I dont know about the rest of you but I cannot afford for my power bill to go up any. It will literally bankrupt my family were my power bill to go up 15% at the very least it would be an added hardship on our already tight situation. Now just isnt the time to place any more burden on we the people.

you are funny, you comment to yeahbut about not critical thinking and just using talking points, but unless "you" are a climate scientist actively researching the subject than methinks you are also guilty of your own accusations...........

i think the funniest thing about this is how people cry out about saving the earth, the earth has been through much worse than mankind, and will survive/repair any damage we do as a result of our presence. the people should be worried for mankind, we wont survive apocalypse like old mother earth will.

Greed, greed and once more greed.......

Goverments and corporations are money addicts, they wash each others backs and leave the common man in the mud.

I porpose that we, the common people, the small business owners join forces and assist and help only ourselves.....this is what we in South Africa call Ubuntu, and thus we will create a "Utopia" of our making.

....One can dream.....
