Ice crystals in the cloud act as little prisms, breaking up the sunlight into its component colors and spreading them out

These colors were soon over California recently, some people thought that a massive and devastating earthquake would strike soon after ... in the coming days. There has yet to be any geological response of such severity.
Said lights MIGHT have a correlation, but as of yet, I'm not really seeing anything too concrete.

I've seen this many times. It's usually visible in very high altitude thin cloud layers as sunlight hits it at just the right angle.
Saw a really god spread of colours at high altitude just last week from my office in Reading, that was evening time too.
I think the people of Bedfordshire can sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge that they are not about to suffer a cataclysmic quake.

As far as I know, there aren't any faults near the UK
Don't think an earthquake is a possiblity in that case.
