First of all i would like to say sorry if this is in the wrong forum

It was ony visable for about 10 seconds, my partner could not belive what he was seeing lol!

I am only saying that this is earthquake lights because ive never seen anything like this before. And when doing a search i found pictures of earthquake lights that looked like what i saw

I witnessed this for the first time in California, about a month or so ago.
Was pretty cool, also the next day it was visible. But no earthquake's.

Ice crystals in the cloud act as little prisms, breaking up the sunlight into its component colors and spreading them out
-----------------------------------------------------
But there's also those times when these lights were witnessed in China, and other places and an earthquake did occur.

These colors were soon over California recently, some people thought that a massive and devastating earthquake would strike soon after ... in the coming days. There has yet to be any geological response of such severity.

Said lights MIGHT have a correlation, but as of yet, I'm not really seeing anything too concrete.

I did check for any recent siscmic activity in the uk, but there has not been any.

I just thought this was quite amazing to see because the only place ive seen evidence of this is on youtube and to be fair i dont always belive what i see on there!

That is a really nice picture, I hope it doesn't signal the end for people living in Bedfordshire......

I've seen this many times. It's usually visible in very high altitude thin cloud layers as sunlight hits it at just the right angle.

Saw a really god spread of colours at high altitude just last week from my office in Reading, that was evening time too.

I think the people of Bedfordshire can sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge that they are not about to suffer a cataclysmic quake.

As far as I know, there aren't any faults near the UK

Don't think an earthquake is a possiblity in that case.

I caught a beautiful, semi-circle Sun Dog today (I'm in the UK also), its the first time I have ever seen one.

I took about eight pictures, it was right above my head near the setting sun.

Nice catch!

I know this, like i said i have only called them earthquake lights as i could not find another meaning for them.

If you search for earthquakes in the UK you will see that there have been plenty of quakes in the UK. Like the one we had in Birmingham 2002. 4.8 on the richer scale.

news.bbc.co.uk...

So I guess you don't need to be near a fault line do you?

The clouds were really interesting, just a shame I had a stupid sunset filter on, it gave them an odd tint.
