A 7-foot-high cross was stolen late Sunday or early Monday morning, from the Mojave Desert. The cross was the subject of a Supreme Court battle that raged for several years. A former park service employee petitioned the court to take it down back in the early 2000’s. The Supreme Court ruled, 5-4 to keep the Veterans Memorial cross up at the Sunrise Rock in the Mojave National Preserve.

Does this not constitute a hate crime?

Could be something simple as a Frat Prank.

I don' know if it was a hate crime.

I live out here just about an hour or two away from it out in the desert. You have to go a LONG WAY out of your way to even see it. It seems more likely that the person with the irrational beef would be behind it somehow.

The thing never hurt anyone. Just some crazy got rattled by looking at it WAY OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.

He/they obviously HATE that cross. They (he) obviously do (does) not respect veterans.

Whomever has done this obviously makes up stories in his/their head and believe it.

If it were park service people, prison is what they deserve.

It seems ironic that after several years of it being covered by plywood, two weeks after the ruling, the Cross is stolen.

No way would the court ever rule this a hate crime. Hate crimes only apply to people of skin color not being white and homosexuals.

The Supreme Court would never stand up for freedom of religion.

If someone stole a menorrah from a temple...is that a hate crime? If someone took the speakers from a minnarett that announced prayer time..is that a hate crime?

If someone took the sign from a Gay activists HQ...is that a hate crime? If someone took a Buddha from a Asian garden...a hate crime? If someone vandalized a statue of martin Luther King...a hate crime?

If someone took a Cross from a monument?

Theft of property is theft of property. The "hate" qualifier is such a pointless and aggravating thing.

At the risk of committing a "hate crime" I'll just burn the cross instead and call it an expression of free speech.

Its a hate crime if the cross was brown yellow or black. Otherwise its not a Hate crime.

Didn't ya know only white people can commit a crime of hate that is punishable by law.
