Hidden messages in songs...is 311 trying to tell us something???

You ever wonder if songs have a hidden meaning to them? I have been listening to 311 for a long time...and I find that their lyrics have a message that are conspiratorial in nature. I really don't think their fans even notice it. 311 is a rock/rap/reggea group, their main message is about love, unity, and positiveness. But hidden in their lyrics are a lot of conspriacy type messages, aliens, ufos, free energy, hidden science. So since tomorrow is 3/11 day, which is a big day for 311 fans, and there is a 3 day event in vegas for it (wish I could of gone )...I decided to share with you some lyrics and pictures and you can decide what you think.

I'm going to get all conspiratorial and suggest some crazy things, but hey...it's skunk works...not even sure what I think of it myself. These are thoughts that go through my mind while listening to them:

Are they trying to send a hidden message with their lyrics?

Do they just really like conspiracy topics and put them in their lyrics?

Are they getting messages (subconsciously or consciously) from somewhere else...aliens?

Are they possibly aliens themselves?

I'll share some lyrics and some pictures that deal with topics we see everyday here on ATS. So let's begin.

In this one song we have three main topics that are discussed on ATS almost daily. It's not something you find in most lyrics...311 is one of the few that I see lyrics like this.

This is one of those songs that I feel like they are directly trying to give a message. It may sound nutty...but I always feel like they are saying that they are prisoners here on Earth. Other hints to this are littered through their other songs.

So what are peoples thoughts? Possible hidden message? Possible alien communication? Or possible that they are aliens themselves?

I use to be a big 311 fan. I've been to maybe 5 or 6 shows. Went to 311 day in New Orleans maybe 2002 or 2003. I just remember it was there longest show ever at that point. Some 4 1/2 hours, I think.

Anyways, I just think they were a bit out there. Yeah, they wanted to make people think, they wanted to wake people up, but it's not like they had any real answers. They were just young adults experiencing the world and having curious thoughts is all. Just like many here on ATS.

What they offer is beliefs, suggestions, and a whole lot of energy.

What was their biggest statement overall from their music, IMO? Live life on your own terms, and question everything. That's what their lyrics are mainly about..more questions than any real answers.

Be funny if we find out one day that some of the worlds bands are in fact aliens trying to spread their message through something the masses may understand

EDIT: re reading it all again it could be possible they are aliens especially with the blatant "They are among us..." but that could be for show.. Good songs though i like their style.

It would be funny if we eventually found out the some of these bands were aliens. Sometimes I listen to 311 and just hear the music...other times I swear they are trying to send a message.

The funny thing about their concert posters and other logos/posters is that although there are aliens, ufos, and all kinds of other stuff on them...no one EVER calls them crackpots for having that all over their stuff. If it is a message they are trying to send...I think it is pretty effective be is accepted without anyone thinking anything is odd about it.

Well 311 sucks and always will, that is why they had to pay Kroq (radio station in LA) to play their music while sublime's stuff was on by request. GWAR talks abut aliens and stuff do you think they are on to something?

Yeah, I remember that old rumor. It's bunk. 311 is a police code for indecent exposure or loud music.

Well, interesting thread. I have been a fan since 1997. I think that they are just writing about things they believe in...no messages. Also, it could be from all the pot they smoke.

Now, off subject. Their music has gone down hill since Sound System...but, I am going to 3/11 day tomorrow in Vegas...so I am excited about that...not the drive to get there though!

311 is the police call sign for indecent exposure in Omaha where they are from...if it was 3-11, then maybe...but still.

Also, there is a song on Transistor that is quoted above, call Electricity. The first line is, "This song started as a rant against haters, but that'd be giving into the instigators..." and ends with, "a call out to unity, in every province and city...what do you think we've been saying since we first started playing?"

Now, that song was originally a response to people who bring up this KKK thing. The song's working title was actually called F**k the KKK...but they changed it.

So, please research the band before you make a statement like this. Unless you are being sarcastic and are a true fan...then point awarded for that.

311 is actually one of the few bands which came out during/after the grunge period that were original and refreshing. I have three of their albums. A lot of their lyrics are very insightful.

Don't even get me started with what passes for music now.

It very well could be all the pot they smoke. If they aren't talking about aliens or ufos...they are talking about pot.

I agree about their music going downhill...I went to a concert last year and they played most of their new album (uplifter)...and I wasn't digging it. There were times where almost everyone was in their seats. They are getting old and too mellow. I'm getting old too...but haven't mellowed yet

is this website tapped into my brain? wtf? Am I some part of an experiment? I joined this site a few months ago and sometimes it says what I am thinking...Have I been programmed since back inthe day? MK Ultra? I dunno. Its all just to weird. i am 34 haven't heard 311 in years, but used to LOVE them. Gave me power in some weird way back then. I took out my own stitches to the tunes of 311. 311 is from Omaha, NE about 40 miles from where I grew up. "Peanut" the bass player is the brother of a friend of mine. I am pretty positive they are not aliens. I dont really know the whole thought process behind their lyrics (I personally have never been into them enough to care) but I am pretty sure about the alien thing.
