Hey all,

Love the site, love fighting the fight,
Bringing light into night,
Now please hear my plight.

I see that I have a blue 'F',
And it half frightens me to death,
That people might think I've taken meth,
And crazy comes out with every breath.

You see while there's a few good writers,
There's many more not so worthy blighters,
They meet reason and logic as kiters,
And see sceptics as some sort of spoil-sport smiters.

With this apparent badge of recognition,
It would appear that I've taken remission,
And adopted some sort of stance of submission,
Something which makes me wish to employ absolute fission.

Were it just me, my threads and posts,
My word would be the only thing that boasts,
We could still have Foo-fighters and ghosts,
And less bandwidth put upon your hard working hosts.

So in short could you please be a dear,
And make my flag bar disappear,
There will still be a few who wish to leer,
But not me I live without fear.

I apologise for my syllable numbers,
And my rhyming; it appears that is slumbers,
And I hope my requests give you no encumbers,
But the pipes of the net do need plumbers!

Adieu!

I really want to flag you for the poem - would that be bad form?

Thank you LadySkadi but yes it sort of goes against what I'm asking for

I'm only looking for an option where you can have it turned off - I dunno after 100 posts or so. Maybe once you get a blue F you can turn it off, just something that distinguishes me from the flag chasers.

Like I said there good writers here who deserves their recognition - but you'd need to have been around long enough to know that purely from their FCB (Flag Contribution Bar) and that sort of makes it redundant in my eyes.

Those who want to keep them can - those who don't can remove them.

If that's possible guys :batting eyelids emote:

Oh, what a poet.
But you just don't know it.

The stats only make you think that you have a bigger dink.

It's a male thing........:shk:

Double reverse psychology?

I like it.

Hey just do as i did. I asked them to change my flag bar to gray
That sort of puts people on their toes when debating with me. And they think ehm is blue for ignorance and gray for intelligence? Yeah!! it could be a conspiracy going on here

It's not a bad idea, thanks! But I'd prefer it to go away altogether - I mean I've decked my profile out with a wonky avatar, 2 lines of writing under my name, a signature - my username! I'm pretty happy with it all, but that FCB just, as a pirate might say, 'Argh it drives me nuts!'

Also, I appreciate the irony of getting flags in a post about removing their *ahem*
"status lifting effects"
It's given me a broad smile.

Could some lovely mod or admin redistribute them please to someone that might want them or is more deserving of them than I? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks if that's possible.

Spy66, would you be up for the option of removing the bar altogether if given the chance?

Thanks to everyone who has responded!

Just because of this, I think I am going to flag all of your threads.

You will have a blue F and L by morning.

(Insert evil laugh here)

I have no problems with that. The blue bar is not worth the attentions it gets in my opinion. Stars and flags are randomly given to everyone for anything.

The flag bar is like a rank in a video game. It doesn't tell anyone about your gaming IQ, It just tell someone how much you play.

I have always thought the stars were enough. The flags and that indicator,do nothing for the site.

I could give a rats butt less if any of my threads are flagged..

I personally did not expect such silliness on ATS.

It being one of the biggest SOCIAList sites on the internet I assumed we would all be treated as equals!

This is like my one Flag Contribution Bar question thread that I had yesterday. One question turned into 20 flags.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

But ye. There should be an option as to which 'stats' appear on mini-profiles with all stats appearing on public profiles.

Hey again,

Much to my utter distress,
I started up this thread today,
It started to go quite well,
Then I thought F'n'L.

The twisted path of progress,
Has led me further astray,
It seems to the gates of Hell,
The doomsday toal seems to knell.

Up is down and more is less,
My calls to stop led me to the flay,
It seems I have my soul to sell,
Our separate rapports have yet to gel.

So c'mon nice mods and fess,
Can things get to go my way?
Can this amassing of blue quell?
Can you ring my bell
?

As for whatukno and LadySkadi

Whilst it's fun I don't want my (and potentially others) message overlooked. Spy66 summed it up nicely when she said that it's like a video game score - there's nothing in it that I want. I'm not against it for all, just my preference would be to not have it on my avatar section if possible.

I'm glad Oneolddude shares my sentiments too. Cheers!

Should your request not be possible or forthcoming from the highest powers ... rest assured that most ATS members care as little about the pantone of others' flag contribution bars as they do for their own. That is to say that most folks grant no value to ornaments such as bars, points, or registry date and focus on the post and not the avatar. Merit is merit, source within this social framework is irrelevant.

Now, that is not to say that those who wish to place value on these things should be judged for it ... many find these aspects fun and knowingly embrace the abstract motivation. Looking down upon such dispositions would in effect be an act of scarlet lettering ... which ironically enough is itself an ornament.

Without wishing to get too psychomeducated and junk, there might be something worth observing here. That the conscious desire to have the flag bar removed, is predicated on actually what it symbolizes being of a greater degree of importance than perhaps you portray or even realize. For in the end wanting the bar removed is a desire relevant to its significance, just like wanting it filled in blue. Sure for different reasons, but still important enough in your consciousness to matter.

True indifference would be not caring either way.

Whilst what you say may ring true to many (maybe all?) it still screws up my funky avatar section of my profile and misrepresents the value of someone's input into the forums (or skews it in favour of flags - not a bad thing for the few good researchers and posters we have here, but they've got content approval status or something which is actually noteworthy).

Join date does have slight merit such as banned posters rejoining or sock puppet accounts. In fact I've seen one today already decked out in full avatar regalia, doing the rounds and citing an infamous debunker member (who shall remain unnamed but well known).

I think if we had a 2 tier system like Dr. Seuss' Sneetches we'd see a lot of people, not just I, who would happily give up any vestment given to them by strangers based upon their ramblings.

As for avatars...c'mon Schrodie, you enjoy dressing up perhaps more than the rest of us and do a good job of it each time. Surely you understand the vanity issue associated with being tattoo'd by people and their potentially harmful ink, don't you??

Thanks for the reply SD, I fair enjoyed it!

If you don't want your flags; please give them to me. I use them to decorate my beach cottage in sort of a nautical manner. And hung in the veranda they give my place a nice festive air especially with spring coming on.

lol, I meant the ornamental (meritorious) part of the avy not the pics/background image itself.

As for my multiple avatar disorder ... it only scratches the surface of the plethora of psychological issues that a string of therapists have been unable to remedy.

I figure, if I'm gonna be crazy, I might as well look pretty.

I don't want to be a 'flag chaser', however, I have been on ATS for a long time now, and since the blue coloring system, I see it and feel inadequate or something like it. I write on ATS, or comment, every day just about, and get stars for a lot of things I write, and it makes me feel good to know that others agree with me or are entertained in some way by what I have said. But that damn half blue word bugs me. I figure those of us with not enough blue just may not be interesting enough to gain more color, hey that's it, we are not colorful enough for ATS, therefore we haven't earned our blue!

It does need to stop, I totally agree. Stop grading us on some weird level, we are not in a popularity contest.

Sounds pretty normal to me

(Admittedly, that is not very reassuring for you...)

Great poem OP! Not sure if this was a case of "double reverse psychology" or not, but just in case I did not flag this thread. I did, however, send you a very large Metaphorical Flag because you deserve it for that poem!

I think many people have missed the message of this thread so as a favour to you, I will remind them of the knowledge you wish to attain:
Does anybody know a way to remove the "Flag Contribution Level" bar from appearing inside the area of their background/avatar? Can it be done, and if so, how?
