Images show gushing geysers on Saturn moon

www.msnbc.msn.com

Like sprinklers hidden beneath the surface, a series of geysers — more than previously thought — are gushing water ice from fissures near the south pole of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus, new images reveal.

Not really my area of expertise, but I thought I'd try to be the first to get this up on ATS...If I am too late, please remove.

One of Saturn's Moons has more gushing geysers then previously thought, and new images show it in detailed spledor.

Pretty stuff...neat to.

NASA keeps dropping news on us that I personally find to be amazing. The best thing about space is that there seems to be no limit to what new information can be found.

The new images were taken during Cassini's flyby on Nov. 21, 2009, and include the best 3-D look ever obtained of a "tiger stripe" — a fissure that sprays icy particles, water vapor and organic compounds.

Great article! Just another piece of evidence that there is life on other planets.
I don't know much about the technical aspects, but I agree, it looks pretty amazing! New discoveries are popping up everywhere, and they're actually being told to us!

S&F!

I can't wait for NASA to get of it's backside and get a satalite out there and drop a probe down through the ice!!

Um...The new images were taken during Cassini's flyby on Nov. 21, 2009.

And they are just now being released.

The information changes what science assumed about these geysers.

You didn't read this story a while ago...it just broke.

But thanks for replying.

THATS what I am waiting for...I mean, you read about projects developing these ice-robots that will one day penetrate the icy surface of Europa...but I really don't know how many of us will ever see such a prospect come to "real use".

I am one of those people who totally think life is under that ice (a theory some major scientists also share), and possibly some larger critters like crustaceans or invertebrates.

Just wish I could see it happen...I'll try to live that long.

Love new space news.

How is this evidence of life again? Don't jump to conclusions.

I have to agree...this has nothing to do with "finding life" in space.

Sorry.

the pic of all those gysers on the horizion is something else!

can only lead to the thoughts of might be happening!

(i seen this a few days ago, cant remember if it was linked to a thread or not)

Like I said...this isn't my area of expertise (that would be 'being an egotistical jerk who writes meaningless fluff).

So if it has been posted, I hope the mods close this down.

Just thought it would interest some of the more "grounded conspiracy" folks out there who gravitate towards subjects of space.

Awesome find!

As soon as we can find out if there is possibly more to it than just 'organic compounds', that's what I want to know.

Life on other planets will be discovered in most of our lifetimes. (Definitely mine
)

I agree with that...I know its a big leap, but I do think we will discover life from outer space.

Of course, I also think it will be bacterial or simple in structure.

Intelligent life (or even multi celled animals) is something I doubt most of us will be learning about within this life time.

The good think about this being a "large leap in speculation" is that I could be wrong and we all could be seeing big honking ETs one day soon.

It would be cool to find "any life" in space.

And Its my guess that icy moons are a good place to be snooping around for evidence of the stuff.

Nice find M&M's,

The geyser part makes me think that there's a lot of heat energy there too!

Heat + Water = rocket fuel!

Yay for our nearest gas station!
