Hi everyone

What kind of world do you think we'd live in had the government chose not to cover up Roswell, and the world was shown that we are not alone?

Where would we be today?

Better off? Or not?

I think we would live in a world that is much more humble than it is today- people would still fight, but I think arrogance wouldn't run very well.

Thoughts?

Well, assuming that there really were aliens at Roswell, and given the culture of the US at the time, I would say that it would have dealt a pretty serious blow to the religious folks of that period.

Perhaps, as a whole, we would have been a bit more reserved about fighting wars with each other over the next few decades, but we would have bit a huge stockpile of weapons to defend against "The Aliens".

Ultimately, I think we would have ended up in very much the same sort of situation we are in now, just in a differant order.

Who says they didn't disclose?

But I know what you mean. Assuming aliens did crash in New Mexico, why do you think the world would be any different if the government admitted to this or not? Either way, we would still be living in a post-Roswell world.

Ya thats a good point... it probably would have been used as a catalyst for a new stockpile of weapons and war preparations.

The majority of us would probably not be born. At least in these current physical shells.

I'll give you this:
1) We would definitely be living under an illusion of fear that could easily be manipulated.
2) Wars would start over who has received technology from the star people
3) Technology would be phenomenal
4) Archeology would certainly be quite different.
5) Religion would adapt
6) ET wars would probably take place over our heads.
7) Socialist societies in the best case scenario (ones that work), Fear based Fascist societies controlled by corporations holding technology over our heads at worst.

russia/us will start the arms race with their top priority to aquire ET technology during this process many governments will be secretly approached by different ET factions. United States will build a stargate, que Jodie Foster. the gate opens unexpectedly in the year 1959 a vast never ending horde of humongous stitched horrors arrives to great the human race with open claws.

1960-1971 are spent with losing battle after battle, the entire northern half of the united states/Canada is burned to the ground, only remaining factions of freedom fighters remain in Texas where the front has been established. government officals have fled the country seeking refuge in Europe countries. ET races watch from giant telatron HD flatscreen, someone makes popcorn.

1972 the final remnants of the Texas Rifle Bass Fisherman club are destroyed by the invading army of whaling specter beasts, these metaphysical creatures skillfully avoided the spittoon IED traps that had been the one saving grace. in the months to follow Mexico with several other south American countries along with Brazil; which had been infiltrated years prior, are now under the command of the alien army.

1973 Russian invents power armor and working replica ET spacecraft. the first ever Bear commanded spec op group is formed, professor Vladimir Gorevich is credited with creating this group. sadly, mr. Gorevich and his staff we're mauled to death shortly after.

1975 first major victory for the allies when a young chinese boy noticed gathering groups of leviathan shore smashers, he also took note of a "control" grouping of bedsheet cloaked floater sectoids. thousands of chinese fire lanterns are released catching the sheet wearing aliens by surprise many of them unable to deal with this display of reckless fire safety throw themselves into the ocean, always to be known as "the day it smells like something is burning...do you smell something burning?". without management personal the pro-union sea monster local 410 begins to fracture.

1979 a personal Megatranmogufior translation machine is created, first words spoken to invading legions, "whats your problem jerkfaces?"

I never understand why some people think that "religious folks" would be affected at all. I am a Christian, but not "religious". In the unlikely event that space aliens landed and said "here we are, brothers", my faith in God and Christ would be unaffected. Just because aliens aren't mentioned in the Bible doesn't mean that they definately do not exist. There's no mention of dinosaurs (at least no land-walking dinosaurs) in the Bible, yet they clearly existed. That doesn't change my faith one bit.

Not really directing this comment to you personally, but I think that perhaps there is this ironic "faith" that an alien landing would change our beliefs at all, when really it is just Christian bashers that somehow think aliens disprove God's existance. If anything, absolute proof of aliens would only increase faith in God in my humble opinion - but that's a different discussion.

Back to the point, the government pretty much did disclose what really happened at Roswell. They initially just wanted to not acknowledge their top secret testing at the time and looked suspicious. They allowed the whole alien thing to take hold to divert attention from what hey were really doing. Again - my humble opinion.
