Passenger in Oregon to Hawaii air incident faces charges

www.cnn.com

Federal authorities filed a criminal complaint Friday against a 56-year-old man whose scrawled note invoking "Gilligan's Island" led a Hawaiian Airlines pilot to turn around a Maui-bound flight and return Wednesday to Portland, Oregon.

About 45 minutes into the flight, Johnson gave a comment card in a sealed envelope to a flight attendant, who opened it, read it and gave it to the lead flight attendant, who then gave it to the captain, it said.

Man, Gilligan's Island. And I thought this guy was like a terrorist or something.

I mean, if he was a terrorist, I mean, fine... but Gilligan's Island is another story. The number of F-16s escorting the plane should have been doubled. I absolutely hate Gilligan's Island, and feel threatened. This guy terrorized the crew of the plane with Gilligan's Island, I mean, 20 years isn't enough.

This guy is the lowest of the low. We should pluck his toes off one by one, then do his fingers. At the least he should be sentenced to death. Forget about the trial and all that, just hang the guy.

This guy has mental issues. I mean, Gilligan's Island... Geez..

Talk about overreacting! If anyone had read the article they would know that he thought his note would only be read later by some poor office worker and he thought they would find it humorous. I guess airplanes are no place to make jokes nowadays, that's for sure. I really don't think pulling off this guys toenails would solve anything.

There is some question as to whether the Captain overreacted, as well:

Thank you for noticing that no planes could be scrambled on 9/11. Yet they could put 2 on the tail of the "Gilligans Island Terrorist". That is outrageous. I gave you a star.

I think the OP comments displayed a touch of sarcasm.
