Iranian Troops Seize Iraqi Oil Well: Official

www.huffingtonpost.com

Iranian troops have crossed into Iraqi territory and seized an oil well that lies in a disputed area along the two countries' southern border, Iraq's deputy foreign Minster said Friday.

The deputy minister, Mohammed Haj Mahmoud, said Iranian troops seized oil well No. 4 Thursday night in the al-Fakkah oil field, located about 200 miles (about 320 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad. The oil field is one of Iraq's largest.

Looks like trouble. After all it is Western Nation corporations who are getting the rights to the Iraqi oil (News: Iraq to Give Western Corporations Oil Rights), this would undoubtedly be frowned upon by them and thus their politician shills.

Perhaps more troops to Afghanistan was a bad idea, as it would not surprise me if this pushed Obama-tron closer to action against Iran.

What ever the implications and ramifications are this is something to keep an eye on.

Iraqi security forces were in the area, but there are no reports of any fighting or that any shots were fired, he said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

No U.S. troops were in the area. And the Iranians are believed to have left the area, he said.

So the Iranians have left the area? Why would they do that if they have 'seized' the oil well? I don't understand that part.

If the Iranians are claiming to have seized the well, they have technically invaded Iraq. If their government is spouting about it, it's an act of war (not with the US, but with Iraq). Knowing that there is a US military presence means that they are rattling sabres at the US.

Does the US treat them as 'insurgents'? Or just let the Iraqis take care of it?
Hmmmm......
