Alan Johnson: I can't stop extradition

www.timesonline.co.uk

I would be breaking the law if I were to oppose Gary McKinnon’s extradition, says home secretary

The judgment on the Gary McKinnon case handed down by the High Court on Friday was clear. It upheld the decision of the Home Office — that extraditing McKinnon did not constitute a breach of his human rights as defined by the European convention. It emphasises the fact that it would be unlawful for the home secretary to intervene to prevent his extradition.

He'd be breaking the law if he did. What a load of testicles.

If the good coppers that are out there took that stance the courts and prisons would be in melt down.

Common sense is what they use, that's whats needed with this.

According to these respected lawyers,he would NOT be breaking the law:

Respected human rights QC Tim Owen and Julian Knowles, one of the UK's leading extradition lawyers, say the Government is wrong to claim it is powerless to act. The lawyers, from Cherie Blair's Matrix Chambers, say extradition is unlawful if a person's health is disregarded and human rights breached and 'it is therefore plain that the Home Secretary has the power - and indeed the duty - to intervene'.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Alan Johnson=yet another splinless shiister.
The law they are trying to use against Gary was not brought in until 2003,and yet the US gov are trying to extradite Gary who comitted the offences in 2001.
Does that sound fair?
Not to me.

This is complete crap. The United Kingdom needs to stand up for itself and stop this sub-servant bull.

America might be a powerful nation, but that really gives us no right to take citizens from countries. Hell, this guy didn't even have true malicious intent. We've got people bombing civilians (including our own country) and we're persecuting this poor soul.

It's crap... the entire digital security and privacy sector is screwed.

Whether it be the RIAA making college kids pay a million dollars for 10 songs or the government jailing people because of their agencies incompetence. It's all bullocks.

Oh it gets worse mate...
Our pretend stand in for Gordon Brown during the summer recess is one Harriet Harman(Although Mandleson, dark lord of the sith is the real standin, and some say real prime minister).
Now Harriet Harman has asserted her political authority by "insisting" that Gary Mckinnon, while tried in the USA,should be allowed to serve that sentence in the UK...
What does that mean?I hear you ask...that means he will be sent to the US,given the 60years or whatever sentence, and returned to serve the term in a UK Jail, paid for by me and all the other sucker UK tax sources/population.

So Harman,by appearing to assert authority, has only really managed to get my collectively evil and incompetant government even more firmly loged between the buttocks of the US Admin.

Thats right folks...We would be paying for his lengthy stretch here in the UK if this plan goes ahead-the USA wouldn't have pay squat!!!

Well Bloody Hell Harriet Harman...that showed real authority!!!

The government has promised it will ensure the hacker facing extradition to the US would serve any prison sentence in the UK amid a deepening row over whether it has legal power to stop the transfer. Harriet Harman, Labour’s deputy leader who is “minding the shop” in Downing Street this week, defended decision by ministers not to intervene in the case of Gary McKinnon, who has Asperger's syndrome. She said that it was an “important principle” that ministers should not make judgements about the criminal justice system. But she also revealed that the British government had secured assurances from the US that if the extradition takes place, his health needs will be attended to. She also revealed the UK government would try and ensure that he serves his sentence in this country. “If found guilty, we will seek for him to be sentenced to serve prison in this country,” she told the BBC’s Sunday AM.

www.timesonline.co.uk...

So he will end up with a USA sentence served in the UK where he would have only got 3 years max if tried here....
You couldn't make it up,could you?

Just goes to prove how increasingly subservient the UK has become to the US.

If the US Government told the Government to nuke Britain, it probably would.

Gary Mckinnon needs compassion, understanding, and he needs support.

Unfortunatly, the British Government's hobby is to sell out the people it is supposed to represent all too readily.

We see British citizens kidnapped- I do beg your pardon, extraordinary renditioned by the CIA to some godawful place to be tortured, and the British Government not only does not lift a finger to help, worse, it is complicit.

What a weak, cowardly and disgusting country we've become. They laugh at us you know, the cretins in power. They laugh at us because we let them get away with anything and all we do is sit and moan, and sit and moan.

The 'Dark Lord' Mandelson makes statements saying Brown thinks this, and thinks that, and then Brown's spokesman has to come out all flustered and contradict Mandelson.

Just who is the PM anyway? Mandelson seems to be the power behind the throne.

The UK's sovereignty has been compromised again and again and again.

People blame the EU, but I think it's more the subservient crawling, spineless and simpering we do to the US.

Quite honestly, I would emigrate if I could, because I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Despicable!

Well said Buddy.

I have often wondered if the uk governmnet are actually under some kind of blackmail from the US Gov..

But then that would make our UK government a bunch of hamstrung, but well meaning types...which I just cannot see myself.

So that leaves me with the conclusion that they are just sick power hungry parasites, who revel in their control over us masses.
You are spot on when you said :

I actually think the US Gov may respect the UK for telling them "sorry-trial for Mr Mckinnon in the UK"

We in the UK are giving the LIVES of our young boys and girls in the war on terror that the US initiated...
And this is the thanks we get-some dodgy assed retro active extradition program?(and constant terrorist threats)
Obama should be as ashamed as my governmnet for going ahead with this extradition of Gary.
I just hope he did see alien craft on that NASA computer, and I hope they step in to help...guess thats just about all we can hope for now.

No anti american tripe from me sir,I like the majority of Americans that I meet, and most of your countrymen.
Foreign policy aside that is.
But hell its not the American people who dictate their foreign policy is it?
Just like we in the UK have no chance to influence our government once they have their minds made up.

Thats why I say I ain't anti American.

Anti shady US/UK gov deals that the people never get to know about, and are not designed for our collective protection, but our collective oppression-YES I am anti that.
Always.

Those deals are between governments and we leave them behind when we step inside the ATS door.I apologise if you thought my reply was directed at you.I doubt even 1pct.of americans even heard of Gary which means the administration wants to make an example of him.Im perfectly fine with British justice myself. But this guy confessed to 97 counts of espionage and is being portrayed as a martyre.

I suppose its all in the definition of "espionage."

I mean,if the guy had been selling secret information to a non friendly regime, with the intent of causing the downfall of a particular country,in this case America, then throw the book at him.

If however said person was looking for the existence of reverse engineered UFO free energy technology,I say give the guy a break...

Why is it essential to lock this man away for so long?
Did he hit the jackpot?I doubt it,but he has touched on some subjects which TPTB do not want in the public domain it seems.

Anyone he "hacked"he did a favour to,I mean for gods sake--no login or passwords?

Sack those fools!!

NASA/DOD/Whatever...why so stupid?
I do not buy it,they are NOT that stupid.
I bet they know where every hacker resides, and I bet the number is in the hundreds of thousands at least..

WHY GO FOR THE UFO GUY?????YOU GOTTA WONDER,NO??

WHY WHY??

Yes. It goes like this: Do as we say, or we make life painful for you.

How? Economical....Diplomatically....Militarily....we both know about the US military bases here.

We finished paying our financial debt to the US over WWII only a couple of years ago.

They don't offer any resistance, so they are not even well-meaning, They are spineless, and only out for what they can get from being in power.

Yep. They love the power. All principles go out of the window, if there was any.

They would, they won't like it perhaps, but that would be tough.

This man has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a form of high-functioning Autism. This man has poor socialising skills as a result, but a sympton of Asperger's Syndrome is that what hobbies in subjects he has, he excells at, akin to a Genius. In short it's an obsession.

In this case, his interest was all things UFO's and Aliens. Not bringing down the USA, but UFO's and Aliens.

When he did what he did, he did not realise the damage he was causing because his interest of UFO's and aliens, superseded everything else.

It was niavity on his behalf pure and simple, he did not realise the repurcussions, goodness he does now.

But he did not kill anyone, and it's strange that Gary Mckinnon is more wanted to be found by the US than a certain chap called Bin Laden who is accused of being responsible for the biggest terrorist attack on the US.

If the CIA, NSA and whatever had some sense, they would give Gary Mckinnon a job in countering cyber-warfare on the US. He would be an asset.

Actually we probably would not have heard about it due to Russia wanting to cover up the fact that their defence computer systems are so vulnerable to attack by a man with Autism interested in Aliens.

This is not about Anti-Americanism, this is about being against the US successive Governments (Bush and Obama administration) wanting to extradite and punish and make an example of a very vulnerable man with Asperger's Syndrome who, because of his niave actions, caught The Pentagon with it's trousers down in the process.
