House Bill Would Make Health Care a Right

www.foxnews.com

Under the House Democrats' plan, the federal government would be responsible for ensuring that every person, regardless of income or the state of their health, has access to an affordable insurance plan. Individuals and employers would have new obligations to get coverage, or face hefty penalties.

The legislation calls for a 5.4 percent tax increase on individuals making more than $1 million a year, with a gradual tax beginning at $280,000 for individuals. Employers who don't provide coverage would be hit with a penalty equal to 8 percent of workers' wages, with an exemption for small businesses. Individuals who decline an offer of affordable coverage would pay 2.5 percent of their incomes as a penalty, up to the average cost of a health insurance plan.

Don't let the title fool you into thinking this is some sort of great idea because that is the furthest from the truth.

Unbelievable!

This is such a huge government takoever, words can hardly describe it.
This is just a plain old fashioned dictatorship!

This is what really scares me:
Even IF you are young and health, you will be forced to get insurance or face a fine of 2.5% of your income.
What??!!

This is mandatory forced health insurance bill which at $1.5 trillion is a country killer. Not only is it bad because it will make America a typical European type socialist country, it will bankrupt America.

We all know how wrong the government is on math figures. If they are saying $1.5 trillion now, that really means $3 trillion just to start.

Plus, since the government cannot run anything, we know that government controlled healthcare will create a disfunctional system which will ruin our medical superiority. Sad, just sad.

This is very disturbing. What sort of a left wing loonie, socialist, commie, corrupt country are we becoming? This must stop!!

How much of your income goes on private health insurance?

medical superiority, that's what you guys call it when the rich ones can afford not to die. Hey, isn't that what you call eugenics?

Umm....I guess you are missing the point.
A lot of young and healthy people don't get or want health insurance. So there is ZERO cost currently. Under this new commie system, all individuals will be forced to get health insurance whether they want it or not.

Yes I'm sure they dont. That doesn't stop them getting into car accidents, fights, and plenty other methods that can end you up in ER.

You keep showing your pure ignorance on how things work over here.

Anyone here can go to the hospital at anytime and receive the best care in the world. This even unfortunately includes illegal immigrants.

So what?
What does that have to do with the price of cheese?

If in a accident, they still go to the hospital and get care. They will pay back the hospital on a payment plan. This is how it has always worked and without the government ruining everything. There is NO need for government.

Oh really? your ER care is free? that's good. EDIT: Oh you end up on a payment plan. I wonder how that works out for people. I guess it depends on how bad you get screwed up.

Still, young and healthy really doesn't mean anything. My nephew's friend recently finished treatment for cancer. Luckily because he doesn't live in the home of the free and the land of the great, he was able to access treatment.

Opting out would be a nice option though. Agreeing that you would not contribute to the system, and that you could only rely on private healthcare. You're right that the system wont be as good as private. It's not a matter of funding, it just wont be run properly. However, it will be good enough "for government work" as they say. Anything else you can just go private for.

No problem for me as the only income i get is a disabled veterans pension that is not counted as income or taxed by the government.

That means i still get health care i don't have to pay for it.
I will just keep going to the VA for primary care and i will also have government payed for insurance for emergency care.

The rest of you will really like this new tax (yes its a tax even though you pay the insurance company instead of the government.)
plus i wonder how high the deductibles on this new insurance will be.
from what i have heard the deductible will be around 20 to 40 % of the billed amount.

Add that to all your other taxes and you will be shelling out about 30+% of your income to others as taxes.

I give it a couple years and see how many people want to vote democrat next time.

We will see how many people liked the CHANGE that was promised by the democrats.

I am willing to bet that most illegals will will never buy insurance and still show up at the ER to be treated for free.

They need to add to this bill that if you are working in the county illegally and have no insurance its a deportable offence.

I just wonder how many companies will hire illegals and pay them under the table just so they do not have to buy health insurance for them.

This may cause a loss of more jobs in the US to illegals.

The idea of being a debt slave is so ingrained onto your red white and blue skull isn't it?

If you end up getting mangled in a car accident, or if you need extremely expensive treatment, how does that work. Payment plans?? That sounds really nice.

Who pays your garbage men? Do you consider it communist that you dont have to run out there and throw a couple bucks at them each time they pick up your trash? You pay taxes and you receive service, you have things like ROADS because you pay taxes. Now they are adding healthcare to that. Try not to have nervous breakdown over this momentous change.

What debt? Give me a break!

Don't you understand how small of a percentage you are talking about where it is more than just a broken bone or something.

Sorry, but I choose to have a choice and some freedom before letting the government FORCE me to abide by their rules.

Boy, they have really got you all brainwashed over there thinking more government intervention into your life is good.

I'm sure you are thankful to the government when you only have to wait 2 months for a procedure instead of 6 months when I can get it here the next day. Your system is so Pathetic

Why on Earth would it be communism to have garbage men?
I don't understand the question or your point?

Garbagemen perform a service. They don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, they are paid, by your taxes, to collect your garbage.

Tax + garbageman = no garbage in the street

Tax + doctor = no worries about healthcare

I don't see how paying for a doctor by taxes is communism, but paying for garbagemen isn't.

Say you decided to dispose of your own garbage, you'd still have to pay the damn tax.

Of course they get paid but NOT by the federal government.

Do the garbage men get paid by the federal government in Europe?

Here, they are paid by my local taxes. Plus, we get to elect local officials if someone tries to raise taxes to high.

Unfortunately, the huge federal government is getting out of control due to the extreme liberal policies being forced down our throats unconstitutionally. Believe me, if this keeps up, Obama will be a one term president and we will have a major swing to the right. Hell, it might even happen in the 2010 elections for Congressmen.

We will have to continue this later. It's time to go home from work.

Right, local authorities pay the garbagemen. But you can't opt out of it, it's not like some states have them and some don't.

Are you saying that it's only communism if it's imposed at a federal level? That seems like nitpicking to me. Doesn't really matter if your local councilman is making you pay high taxes or if it's the president, the result is the same in the end.

I don't know about all the states. There might be some in which there is no garbage tax and/or you can get rid of your own garbage.

We have a representative government. If I run on the platform of getting rid of the garbage tax by reducing government waste and get elected, guess what? No garbage tax. So, yes it is possible to do and I'm sure some states are like this. Unfortunately, in my very liberal/democrat run state, that is not the case. In fact, we have a saying here, "welcome to the people's republic of Maryland".

Oh, I really have to leave work now and go home.

Do you have auto insurance???? that should cover injuries from a car accident.

Unless 1 you are a drunk driver or 2 you are driving a car with no auto insurance.

If you are one of the above you should be forced to pay everything out of your own pocket plus for anyone you hurt.

I am willing to bet the auto insurance companies will love this bill as they can let the mandatory health insurance pay all the medical for car accidents and not drop there rates so they can pocket all that money as profits to.
