WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Thursday that he remains confident the economy will turn around in the short term and the nation will prosper in the long term despite another dose of bad unemployment news.

"And I'm absolutely confident that we can, at this period of difficulty, prove, once again, what this nation can achieve when challenged," Obama said in the Rose Garden after a meeting with executives from energy companies.

Of course he has all of the confidence in the world; he's not unemployed and has not been job searching for the past 6 months like me. Besides, what are the odds that he'll lose his salary anytime in the near future?

he has to say stuff like that. if he said, "sorry folks but the economy sux, and well we cant really do anything about it" i dont think he would stand a chance in 2012 vs. palin.

and with house parties like this, how can he be sad?

Why, yes. I am blaming him. I'm blaming him for spending taxpayer money in all of the wrong places, trying to prop-up businesses that should have been allowed to fail. Where are all of the jobs that were supposed to be created by his stimulus packages?

Nothing but more "Yes We Can!" propaganda; empty promises.

Typical Dem, spend more than you have, with nothing to show for it in the end.

I read this and threw up a little in my mouth.

He is confident without telling a single person WHY he is confident!

He feeds us a bunch of GARBAGE and we are expected to swallow it and ask for seconds.

Please tell us Mr. Obama, Why are you so confident when unemployment continues to rise? Other than temporary government positions that you have created, what policies have you enacted that will help the situation in the long-term?

Oh no, don't ask questions, take it on faith. Give him a chance to fix the country!

The casualties in Obama's war on the capitalist system are acceptable collateral damage. In order to rebuild this nation into his and congress vision of a fascist socialist nation there will first have to be destruction, the destruction of the free market capitalist system, taking over the banks, industries, controlling energy, as well as assimilating much of the private sector will mean that millions will lose their jobs.

From Obama's perspective things are improving, because their plans are working. They just have to keep the American people blind and fooled for long enough to get all of their legislation passed.

Dependence on this government is an advantage as well, through dependence on the government the people can become obedient and subservient.

Relax, they have trillions more dollars to cover all of this.

Free food and free health care and a lot of new green government jobs are on the way.

I'm sure if things get much worse they will provide free camps and tent cities for those who will need it.

Surely not propping up big companies who employ folk would worsen employment? Is it not cause he is not propping you up at the moment?? Just saying...

I don't need any propping up from the likes of him. Even though unemployed for the last six months, I managed to save enough money over the past 20 years of employment to pay my mortgage off just last week. And still be able to live relatively comfortably despite having to make many necessary cuts in my living choices.

Nevertheless, I would still like a job.

And I don't see 'The Savior' stimulating anything other than his own ego.

Yeah he paid them money to prop up the companies, who you know ended up failing and laying off people anyway... a lot of good those bailouts did.
I've been searching for a job for a couple months for summer, and nothing. Guess what? GM, Chrysler, and even Ford dealers aren't hiring! And all but Ford got bailouts dude. Bailing out failing companies doesn't solve unemployment no matter who you work for.

What's unemployment now, 9.5%? And climbing?

Obama is NOT going to go on TV and admit that he stepped on his crank while wearing golf shoes. He will not admit that his policies are complete failures. That would end the illusion that he's perfect.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Obama is worse than bush so far ive given up on him for now.

He spent more money in 8 Years than bush did in Iraq - Afghanistan on that stupid stimulus package that was just a big political payoff with 3% infrastructure spending. That now according to GAO, is about 5 billion underfunded. what crooks, all of them

How much time would you like to give him? A year? Two years? Three?

I'd love to have a job where I could screw the free world and # up the entire global economy then have people say, hey, he needs more time.

I heard him say today in his speech that if we prop up big companies it will allow little companies to succeed.

I don't know what fantasy land he is living in but when big companies and little companies are competing in the same market the big companies will drive out the little companies.

Of course just a few days ago he was pitching his Cap and Trade as feasible, and told us to just look at California.

Obama is a moron.

I keep seeing those orange and white construction zone barrels being moved from place to place on the roads around here. There doesn't seem to be much construction, just barrels changing positions from time to time. I guess it provides jobs though.

Well, considering it's a "big" country's economy he's trying to turn around and not a Walmart store which is about the time that you lot have gave him then a term would just about give a chance for anyone to show what way its going...

Playing hardball will only create resistance, It must be frustrating as hell for you out of work but time is what it is going to take surely..?

There is finantial and employment problems all over the world at the moment not just the US...

Okay, what Obama is doing is destroying the economy.

Look at this link.

By him propping up the big banks it is causing the little banks to go out of business. We are leveraged to the hilt. Very few people have the credit score to even get a loan.

We have to much debt. You can not do something that got you into a problem and expect to do the same thing to get you out.

Obama is making everything worse, snap out of your fantasy land. The unemployment numbers are just going to keep rising.

I think you will find that the economy was already wasted and with some momentum at that.

True, but how is doing the same thing that got us there going to turn it around?

That is what I'm getting at.

You can't do the same thing that got us into this mess and expect it to get us out of it.

What are you paid to defend the choclate messiah?

Obama has not reversed the debt or ecomonic collapse. He is accelerating it.
