WASHINGTON -- Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was just a few paragraphs into an address at a St. Patrick's Day celebration at the White House when he realized something sounded way too familiar. Turns out, he was repeating the speech President Barack Obama had just given.

Obama laughed and returned to the podium to offer what might have been Cowen's remarks. In doing so, President Obama thanked President Obama for inviting everyone over.

Looks like his over worked teleprompter workers finally made a mistake. I wonder how many people got their pink slip over this.

Wish I had seen this, I can just imagine him thinking to himself that Rush was behind this.

I know it may seem that I am enjoying this little gaffe and I am a little, but I kind of feel bad for him. Bush may have had his own lingo, but this is beyond funny.

If this is the worse thing to happen to him during his presidency then he's going to do a lot better than most.

It is funny, though.

I'm mostly surprised people think reading a teleprompter is a bad thing, or "cheating" when most speakers on television do it. I mean, why wouldn't you?

At least he reads it right.

Bush had a prompter and still managed to butchered the English language into some sort of nervous incomprehensible and incoherent gibberish.

I swear it would have made more sense to me if I found out that he didn't have one at all.

I'm not saying this makes Bush a better speaker.

President Obama does over use the teleprompter and many here have said that this will cause a problem. They aren't far off.

I just think that this is pretty funny. It reminds me of the movie Ron Burgundy. You know where he will read whatever is on the teleprompter no matter what it says.

Imagine if like in the movie, someone typed in F you America and he read it. Won't happen, but you get what I'm saying.

I dont have a problem with anyone reading off a prompter,my problem lies with who's writing it...

Ok..I would put more faith into anyone with athority if they speek from the heart,no matter how botched, how many UH's,LIKES AND's if they spoke with there words, not someone elses..

Even if they do relay the message of the real PTB,a glimmer of truth will shine through...

I'm not an Obama fan, but he seemed to handle this gaffe pretty well. There's nothing wrong with using teleprompters, as long as the speaker has already read the speech and pre-edited it.

I mean, come on. How busy is the President? I should think that I would be more upset knowing that he has enough free time to write every one of his speeches. I'm an excellent writer, and It can take me a week to write a good speech.

Leave this one alone. Find something worthy of picking on him for.

Obama is a very good speaker and the teleprompter is a part of that. I say don't fix something that's not broken. Sure, it sometimes makes for embarrassing moments but he pulls it off well with his jokes.

On another note, the article said "Earlier, the president claimed an Irish ancestry to Ireland's leader...". I guess he can just claim any ancestry and people will believe it.

Probably none. Obama himself is a mess. He tired out after just 3 weeks on the job. He's lax. He's late to everything. He gives DVDs to heads of state for state visit gifts. Mr. Articulate can't speak without the teleprompter.

Obama's a mess.
This just fits in with the way the White House is under him.
I predict no pink slips.

Yeah, obama's real articulate when he has it all written out for him, Ron Paul just knows what he's talking about because there are no lies or falsehoods.

It's kind of a gaff. Things happen. Probably not the worst thing a president could do on live tv or radio right?

I mean nearly causing WWIII by screwing around on the radio is far worse IMO.

FlyersFan,

Of course hes a mess, he has to adjust to that job still. It's nearly a 24 hour a day job being president. I would be thanking god for a teleprompter. If I had to go off the cuff it would be a complete disaster.

How does one attempt to fix all the problems occuring in America at once? Even if he had a full staff (which he doesn't) it would be a daunting and difficult challenge.

One thing about Bush 43 I do have to say. Even though the man continuously butchered the english language, his spanish was awesome.

I would suggest reading some news since his inauguration because there has been way worse than this already.

I don't think the President of the Untied States should ever have to form his own thoughts on the fly, that would be unfair

If you read the article it's obvious that he's having a little fun and cracking some jokes.

Though I did laugh when he said he was a little bit Irish.

Arnt we all?!

here's what i found amusing about obama detractors:

One their right hand - they claim he's a devilish dog who's here to reign in Armageddon with his impeccable wit, charm, and over all anti-christ cookie cutter appearance. (heard him referenced as the man who most closely resembles the depiction of the anti-christ way too many times)

Then, on their left hand, they actually believe he lacks the mental capacity to knowingly mis-read a teleprompter

The context of that particular moment was that obama had become a president of the teleprompter, do you guys seriously not see this as a goof?
A joke, a jab, a "gotcha"?

Or is being in the mind of someone who hates obama with a drool of pure venom really this depressing?

I could not agree more...

This is funny...I like it! What is wrong with Obama blowing off some pressure with a little fun...it is good for everybody. People need to just stop and laugh at the insanity of it all sometimes!

Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen reminds me of one of the bumbling business men in the movie Appaloosa! Great new movie if you like westerns!

A a few paragraphs ?

Wouldn't he know his own speech?

Are these people brain dead?

Its doesnt matter what you think of the man himself , he is just a puppet and is just relaying messages from his puppet masters. He is like the manager at burgerking , he is the guy who takes all the crap when things go bad. The real owners hide in the shadows and just appoint another puppet if and when needed.

Oh, and about the DVD as gifts to foreign leaders, I believe they all have a region coded into them to help prevent piracy - so they won't work outside North America ... Really dumb to give DVD's as gifts for that reason alone.

Thought alot of you would enjoy it.

The rest of you are looking to far into it. Everything doesn't have to be ablout him being a puppet or about the economy.

This isn't about who messed up at the podium worse Obama or Bush.

This is funny.

Laugh.

That is pretty funny.

The prime minister reminds me of someone but I can't think of who it is. he is like a mini version of Andre the Giant. no offense. I love andre.
