Aviation week
an article by Bill Sweetman - who was the editor for Janes Fighting Aircraft and now writes for AWST - and is hugely respected within the industry;
its very interesting what he has said about AESA - and its limitations vs mechanically scanned systems.
he also thinks that the Typhoon will go for side (and tail) scan arrays - something proposed for the F-22 but currently shelved.
another AWST link
^^ although slated by many as being russian crap , the SU-35 has this feature from the outset - 270 degree AESA with side arrays coming - AND , this
is the kicker - the russian AESA kit is slaved to the helmet sight - so you have optimum radar performance where the pilot looks.
