Stabenow: Dems May Hold Talk Radio “Accountability” Hearings

Source

Democrat senator Debbie Stabenow has told nationally syndicated talk host Bill Press she will push for talk radio “accountability hearings” in order to impose government-mandated “balance” in the radio marketplace. According to the Gladwin, Michigan, senator the airwaves are “dominated by one view” that “overwhelms people’s opinions — and, unfortunately, incorrectly,” and said that “right-wing conservative talk hosts” are “trying to make people angry and saying all kinds of things that aren’t true and so on,” Radio Ink reports on February 5.

In other words, according to Stabenow, the American people are unable to formulate their own opinions and the government must do this for them. In order to facilitate this process, the Michigan senator pledges to “pass a standard” based on the revoked Fairness Doctrine. She will “bring these [radio network] owners in and hold them accountable” to an undefined “community interest,” that is to say the politically motivated interests of supposed “progressive” Democrats irate over the fact so-called “conservatives” have dominated the airwaves for more than two decades.

Here we go. Now our 1,2,4,9,and 10th bill of rights are under fire. All under the guise of change and hope from the left. We need to stop rationalizing these infringements, because the more the American people defend and accept these blatantly illegal laws and bill proposals, the more the government is going to push us into a state of tyranny. Millions of Americans have died to ensure that their children would enjoy their constitutional rights. Now that hope and luxury is being destroyed by an ever powerful government and an ever docile public. It truly saddens me that people can’t comprehend (or don’t care) what is truly transpiring in this country.

America is getting the "change" that Obama promised in his campaign but that they were to hypnotized/stupid to hear. Its too late to shout "WAKE UP PEOPLE!!" The enemy is inside the gate and now he will systematically rape and pillage this once great country to the point where we will soon be unrecognizable even to ourselves.

Don't delude yourselves into thinking that Obama will "govern from the center" as so many hope. He doesn't have to so why should he. The Fairness Doctrine is next, followed very quickly by crippling gun control, slavery reparations and on and on...

Its all right there in his autobiography, his work as a community organizer, his limited voting record in the U.S. Senate. He's not trying to hide his extremist, socialist, racist, ultra-liberal ideology. It was always right there in front of you and you still voted him into the most powerful office in the world. Now because of your choice, we will all suffer together.

Are you serious??? I'm sorry, but talking like that sounds like it is coming from a 5 year old.

I talk to people at work about this stuff and they always say that 'Right-wing' radio should be taken off the air.

Then I ask them, "Are you comfortable with blindly following your leader?"

I just can't understand why people want this to happen. This world has surely gone mad

It's very odd to me that this would only apply to radio. If they are going to draft a bill on it then it should include all media including Television and Newspaper, correct? It seems like Democrats don't like the idea of a free market since they obviously know how to manage our lives better than we could.

You guys thought Bush was bad? just wait.

Most media venues are already under liberal control. They just want to complete they dominance and talk radio is the last venue. I weep for America.

Lets hope the Supreme Court shoots down the Fairness Doctrine. You have to love the wording, "Fairness" and "Doctrine". What a load of #$%@*!

Lets examine this.

Bill Press is a liberal talk show host. His show is syndicated and carried on such stations as OBAMA 1260 in D.C.

OBAMA 1260 is switching to financial news. (this is mentioned in their conversation). Bill Press' show, along with the likes of Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller are being dropped.

Let it be also noted that Democrat senator Debbie Stabenow is married to Tom Athans, a liberal talk radio executive.

Yet amazingly, Obama was still elected President. Gee how do you think that happened in the middle of all that overwhelming domination? Does this indicate that no one is forced to listen to a specific radio station or show? Univision dominates their channel with the Spanish language but it hasn't forced me to speak Spanish yet?

The radio industry is an open free market. If people listen the the station does well, if not then it tanks. We don't need Congress telling us what we can listen to.

The liberals seem to have a real problem with the fact that their agenda just doesn't sell with the average American. They had their own liberal radio network, Air America, but it went bankrupt because no one listened. I listened in on a couple of programs, including Al Franken, and I just couldn't stand the socialist swill that I was hearing.
Not all talk radio leans to the right, and some, (Laura Ingram) can only bash Obama.
But the stations I listen to seem to be fairly balanced. Some give both sides of the arguement and let the listener decide, which is what listeners should be doing anyway.
No one should get all their information from radio, tv, and newspapers. We all need to read books from both sides. Read biographies of leaders, read books on economics, read everything you can get your hands on. It is the only way you can be informed. And it is the individual's responsiblity to stay informed, not to have everything spoonfed to them.
Liberals think we can't take responsibility for ourselves.

yea of course they want to take it off the air. when television news is dominated by liberal views with only fox news as their competitor, they want to make sure the only other republican talk stations are taken away so democrats can dominate politics for the rest of time.

This is what we are ALL in for when someone stands in the way of not the government, but big world banking. They control everything, from the laws right down to you and I. In other words, they own us. From the day you were born, to the day you die, they own you. How? Through debt. They want to do away with all of the different currencies around the world, and put us under one of their choosing. Well, they may just get their way if we do not stand up and let them know that we are aware of their little game. They may own our bodies, but, they will never own our souls.

It appears America is moving away from the very ideals that made it one of the most envied nations in the world. This isn't only anti-free speech, it's also anti-free market. This in a country that was born on ideals such as "That government is best which governs least."

It's a good thing they want to censor and regulate radio. A very good thing.

Soon they will come for the blogs and the internet as a whole. That will also be a good thing. A very good thing.

Pelosi cant send me to the cornfield, can she?

Wow, that's some dangerous, delusional **** right there. So we need to hold talk radio 'accountable' for expressing their opinions, opinions which are wrong apparently because they disagree with her world view. Nice. I guess she's never heard of the 1st amendment...or, more likely, she just doesn't like it very much. That's a typical liberal politician for you. They're all for free speech, as long as that free speech is in agreement with them.

So, when do we start sending everyone who isn't a flaming liberal to the re-education camps?

If stations that carry conservative talk shows are forced to stop broadcasting those shows, the stations will eventually go out of business thus creating more unemployment. I believe it is in the best interests of the Congress, the Obama administration and the American economy in general to keep the conservative shows on the radio

All I need to say is Viva La Pirate/Free Radio

Besides if local stations go to hell because of some bill passed like that, there is always shortwave radio and internet broadcasts.
The only thing that bill would probably effect is stupid junk like big shot stations and satellite radio which anyone with a brain wouldn't pay a dime for anyways.
I mean really does anyone think the FCC would actually enforce it? Who would enforce it besides maybe the station manager? Even at that who has the athority to pull a station or talk host off the air or maybe fine them outside of the station themselves and the FCC? I don't see how the people who write these laws figure it will be controlled
