Firstly very sorry if this is in a thread somewhere else - I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.. but i thought the article on this page was quite interesting. Secondly I've cheated a bit cus I found it on another forum, but oh well!

MOSCOW -- For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. Now he's found an eager audience: Russian state media.

In recent weeks, he's been interviewed as much as twice a day about his predictions. "It's a record," says Prof. Panarin. "But I think the attention is going to grow even stronger."

Prof. Panarin, 50 years old, is not a fringe figure. A former KGB analyst, he is dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's academy for future diplomats. He is invited to Kremlin receptions, lectures students, publishes books, and appears in the media as an expert on U.S.-Russia relations...

Stars and flag to you my friend.

Very good conversation piece.

I think it might not be in 2010 that might be too soon for some, but if the economy continues this way, people being disgruntled and the government not doing anything about it, it could very well happen.

This is stupid, the guy doesn't understand America, he thinks like a Russian who lives in a land that is subdivided with different cultures. Don't most of us have family living all over the country? We're a web of relations and family that with many of us, spans the country.

WHAT???? wait...WHAT???

Ok...first of all....EVERYBODY in the United States is the descendant of an immigrant...meaning..that YES the USA, IS divided into a bunch of cultures..what do you think your culture is AMERICAN?

And the fact that we have family living everywhere around the country, wouln't prevent a civil war, people base they're opinions out of where they live, and the old North VS South is still very real. Just look at the voting map.

why?, would one side say "tastes great" while the other side says "less filling!" "tastes great!" "less filling!"...................... what would americans want to break the country into sections for? Just to see what thats like????????????, wake up and smell the coffee, this russian is doing this because he can and it means more books and more money for him and another news story thats on going for the russian media. other than that its made up and doesnt exist why play into the downfall of this great nation when nothing like that is even slightly likely.

hmm great nation is to be debated these days my friend. And yes it could happen, technically speaking it might be better for smaller states who don't get as much attention from Washington for being how do it put it politically....ohh yeah....less important. Not that they should be, but that's how it is.

It would be an extremely stupid thing to happen. If had to put my money on anything i'd assume it'll be a Civil Revolution, not a war against eachother, but a war against the socialists who run the place.

And why rag on him cause he's a Russian?

Americanism is a distinct culture (albeit mostly jingoism). However, there are several significant subcultures: African/American, Chinese/American, Italian/American, Mexican/American to name the more important ones.

I saw this this morning on CNN. I do strongly believe that American people will rise up in a civil action, or many States will secede and leave the corporation to stand alone. I am hoping for a peaceful settlement as the People of America gain their freedom back, but I fear it will be a bloody series of battles. Would Obama raise troops to quell a secession? That question is yet to be answered. The Russian fellow is just trying to make a buck, he can see into the future just about as good as I can.

I'd say you forgot to mention a rather obvious cultural group with a strong identity and a history of secession! The Southrons!

John Titor said that the civil war in US would start somewhere betwen 2007 - 2010 and that the Russia would then strike US with nuclear and biological weapons... But not because Americans would be their enemies, but because they were trying to destroy US goverment, who would bring civil war in America in first place and is/will destroy all of the worlds economy...

If you saw film "Zeitgeist Addendum", you know how US goverment is "adding" money into the system and why everything is going to fall apart in two, three years and why they don't want to introduce new technology, that could remove oil, gas and other resources that are poisoning our air, soil... It's so hard to explain it all and it's easier if you would just watch the film
It makes a lot of things perfectly clear.

This 6-way split might work out really well. I have been waiting for a third party president and I think alot of citizens would like representation that is a better reflection of them, and not a reflection of big business.

However, I don't think that there is much of a chance of that happening, unfortunatly.

We will soon see that the new president, whom is promising change, will only fall under the thumb of big business; and that will ultimatley result in the consistant roller coaster of stagnation that Americans have lived with for many generations. Oh well, at least he give the appearance of being different, with his looks.
