Jihadist calls for Facebook invasion

www.news.com.au

A MEMBER of an Islamic jihadist forum who urged supporters last week to wage a "YouTube invasion" by uploading propaganda videos has called for a similar attack on Facebook.

The SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based monitoring service, reported that the appeal for a "Facebook invasion" was made on Tuesday on al-Faloja, a password-protected jihadist forum.

After praising the "great success" of the "YouTube invasion", the forum member using the name Omar Abdul Hakim called on other members to start using Facebook, describing it as "a podium to reach millions of people".

"We will use Facebook as a new and exclusive media tool to fight the media offensive on jihadist media, its forums, and its websites and in order to reveal the Crusaders," Hakim wrote according to SITE.

The forum member posted instructions on how to register on and use Facebook and outlined "goals of the invasion" as "reaching the vast base of Muslims who subscribe to Facebook" and "participating and interacting with them".

It is bad enough to have terrorists in real life now they want to invade the virtual world as well. I wonder if this is some false flag operation to control the web. Recently in Australia the government has proposed to introduce web filters to censor the internet and that has attracted huge criticism among the public. I believe if this article is right, it will give them ample reason to apply web filtering and therefore control the Web…

Actually, that would be a REALLY easy way to tell who's a jihadist. I mean, if your 'FRIEND' starts spamming your 'wall' with propagandist crap, you can always report him/her.

I agree with you. This will be a very good way to catch most of them. However, i see this as a pretext to have more control over the internet. With web filtering, authorities will decide for you which website you can access. Say for instance you have a website with anti government propaganda, the authorities might deny your access.

Are you serious? You do realize that there is no such thing as "Muslim Extremists" right?

You would seriously turn in your friend?

There are ALWAYS extremists. Of ALL races/cultures/religions/.

Spammers should be slapped. But I suspect this 'threat' of 'jihadists' spamming facebook is merely posturing anyway. Who would be stupid enough to do it?

I just read that before seeing it here on ATS...

So what's the point exactly, a majority of people on Facebook might be stupid (by putting every little picture of something that they do on it), but they could tell that they're being fed propaganda.

And what of the status updates for a jihadist?

"Such and such is preparing to wage holy war on white Christian swine..."

Bit of a give away.

I think the point is pretext for the authorities to have more control over the Web. Look at the amount of power authorities got after 9/11.

Why invade facebook? Why not invade ATS. They already have a forum here War on terrorism or they can ask for their own forum here 'Jihad' to post their views.

I always wondered, what percentage of the sudanese community wanted to wipe the british teacher for that teddy bear thing being named mohammed.

I always wondered, how many muslims supported the idea that mickey mouse is an infidel.

Now this, a forum member?

So if someone makes a crazy thread on ATS that would make news too?

Let them take my thread on foreign occupation, then let them invite me to the O'reilly factor. I'll educate the sheep!

Aren't Myspace and Facebook pretty censored already?

In theory they could delete all the Jihadists bulliteins.

THough it probably wouldn't actually shake out that way.

Let's not forget the thread on ATS that proved the relation between the CIA and Facebook.

Great success of the YouTube invasion?
Well I don't know about others that have watched the Iraqi resistance videos, but I for one haven't bought their anti-American crap, all I've seen is that the resistance have no idea how to carry out small unit ambush tactics or a general guerrilla war to defeat the U.S. and coalition.
The turning point has totally been on the home front, the American people don't want to be conquerors, and they don't want to fight to hold on to Iraq.

I don't see a relationship between this and the government trying to expand their power over the internet.

Let them go on Facebook. Then they can get the KoobFace virus also. It will serve them right. Everyone should avoid Facebook. No good can come by it. People scream about Privacy, then go on Facebook, and reveal just about everything about them. Who needs government snooping, when you have Facebook?

I'm not sure what everyone is concerned about.

Facebook has privacy settings. If you don't want to see someone's rantings you can just adjust your privacy settings and make it that people can't contact you unless you approve them.

As far as ATS goes, our T&C clearly states that we do not permit recruiting. Efforts by any group, whether or not we like them, to attempt to harvest our membership would be met with an immediate account termination.

In a nutshell I think people need to remember, you choose what to look at...

I don't get it, has anyone (who speaks a foreign language) been on youtube lately? There is no shortage of anti-american videos, posts, etc. As for facebook, it's just another form of self advertisement for people who think the world cares about their selfasitis (i.e. look at me, I'm important in my own little fantasy world).

The only purpose for any of those websites is to recruit people and for marketing reasons. Life is a sales pitch.
