I've heard it time and time again on the news and in these forums, that lower income families tend to vote Democrat. Where do you people get off? I've seen the polls, and they're taken _WAY_ out of context. Most of the "lower income" voters are located in inner cities, which tend to lean Democrat anyway because they know what it's like to be neighbors to millions of people. Those people vote democrat not because they are poor but because they have a democratic mind.

Here is my take on it all:

Republicans are Democrats who never learned how to share.

The only difference between a Democrat and a Republican is that the
Democrat will feel guilty after screwing you over.

A Democrat is a Republican with half a heart.

Democrat:

'equality' > liberty

Republican:

liberty > 'equality'

I say 'equality' because it's relative. I think if you're living and breathing you're equal. Some think you aren't equal unless everyone has a Cadillac to drive and cable TV in their home regardless of how they are gotten.

Though in recent years it is pretty evident that neither party cares much for liberty anymore.

Yeah, most poor people vote democrat because they are the only party that will support them. Back home, in ye ol' Blighty, the conservatives are trying to help the poor.

May I suggest to all you right wingers who want to beat the left wingers, that the poor is a massive voting block. Sort them out, the left wing can't (oh, it's so grim up north london politically impossible, must line my nest) and you earn their votes. Simple. Look after people and they will look after you. Payment in kind.

It's a misnomer to say that only poor are democrats.

The firm I work at has 5 executives. all of them are life long democrats. They each make between 1.5 -5 million with the big dog making close to 15 million a year. All have been and are solid democrats. They contribute and donate cash to the democratic party and get invited to their fund raisers each time. I even got to talk to senator Clinton back in 2006, while transferring her call to my boss. she was very nice over the phone.

Here in Los Angeles there are a LOT of very wealthy democrats. Drive in the foothills of Encino, Woodland Hills, SHerman Oaks, Beverly Hills and Hollywood and you'll see almost only Obama signs in their front yards.

Now when I went to the Regan Library last weekend the parking lot was all McCain stickers. But I'm at the Regan Presidential Library so what do I expect. But I don't mind that Library is very beautiful and half the men there were teary eyed looking at all the memorabilia. regans love letters to nancy were actually very moving. I'd recommend the place even if it's McCain country. Plus I got some little punk in trouble for kicking open the doors inside the library with his feet every room he went into because he was too lazy to use his hands. got the roving Secret service that guard the place to give him a stern talking to.

Yes, bit rich people aren't 'real' democrats. It's easier to see in Europe, they where Mao uniforms, especially when they are dressing up.

A majority of poor, uneducated, reliant people vote Democrat because rich elected Democrats keep them that way so they will have a voter base. Keep promising them everything...give them nothing, then blame evil rich Republicans for keeping them down.

It's worked that way for decades.

Side Note because it fits this thread: When is ATS going to come up with a rating system opposite of the star system? Something like a Ignorance Star (or moon) for a post that isn't quite right? It could be set up on the opposite side of the star posts.

Ya right the democrats are going to HELP the poor.

The poor vote democrat because the democrats say they are going to create jobs.
This is true the democrats are going to create jobs FOR there UNION buddies not the POOR.

The democrats claim they will bring jobs back to the US.
this one is bull to.
They say that they will bring the jobs back by taxing the corporations that took the jobs overseas.
Stupid the democrats "TAXING" the corporations with taxes and environmental regulations was why the corporations left in the first place.

The democrats claim they will bring more jobs for minority's
yes they have made more jobs for minority's not African americains or any Other poor groups that are citizens of the US
No the jobs are now worked by minority's all right. illegals in the US unlawfully.

The democrats claim they have helped the disabled get jobs.
yes but at poverty wages.
Plus the democrats have passed laws to protect the rights of the disabled in the workplace. good??? they passed the laws but with no money for enforcement so what can the poor disabled do hire there own lawyers, bull with what remember they are disabled poor they have no money to pay a lawyer.

Plus it is cheaper for a employer to hire a illegal at minimum wage then hire a disabled person at a fair wage.

How HAVE the DEMOCRATS really helped the POOR.

Yet the poor keep voting for them thinking that they will be helped.

Now you also have the newly poor because the democrats have caused there jobs to go overseas because of the cost of environmental regulations,
The jobs lost due to the legal cost and time of fighting the treehugger democrats to get permits to build and open new factory and plants in the US.

No investor is going to invest in a factory or plant that is going to be tied up in permitting and court for 7 to 20 years before the first dollar in profit can be made.
The corporation and the investor are going to go to china where they can build a plant and start shipping there product out for sale in less then a year.

How can a company with a new high tech product that they hold the patent on ever dream of waiting for 15 years before they can manufacturer there product when a Patent is only good for 20 years
en.wikipedia.org...

The democrats have been in control of congress for two years now what HAVE they done.
what bills have they passed that would help the poor get jobs.

What bills have they passed the have been vetoed by bush that would help the poor get jobs.

Answer these questions and you will know who i am voting for.

Oh i have over the years lost jobs in the construction industry the mining industry and government jobs not because of the republicans but every one has been because of the democrats.

A vote for the democrats is a vote for jobs for the poor.

At burger king or WalMart

Just remember anyone here could end up poor
all it would take would be to have your car hit by a drunk with you in it and become disabled.

They don't want to do that because it would be negative and discourage "alternative" views. Then again for some it could be considered a badge of honor.

What always gets me is when people start screaming "ignorant" it is usually because they don't like the facts that are being presented, and they can't find any facts, statistics or reports to prove their argument so the word "ignorant" is their way of "leveling" the playing field. That is not a comment directed at you, just a trend I have noticed in threads of a different nature.

The difference between democrat and republican

Democrat on the government... Daddy!!
Republican on the government... Service

Democrat on ideology... Socialism
Republican on ideology... Capitalism

Status on Democrats... misinformed by elite media and party elders.
Status on Republicans... suspicious of media, independent.

If Poor = Democrat someone needs to tell Bill Gates and Warren Buffet they are on the wrong team.

www.foxnews.com...

The last Democrat to carry the state in a presidential election was Lyndon Johnson, in 1964.

But Buffett had plenty of company Wednesday night at a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama — and local organizers say Obama made a valuable investment.

www.time.com...

There's a lot of reasons you could be jealous of Barack Obama: he's a great public speaker, so handsome that after every public event long lines of mostly women rush to get a picture with him, and counts Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Warren Buffett among his admirers.

The divide here is not a money one. At least not entirely.

Nor is it a Liberty vs Equality one entirely, but that is on the right track.

I would say it is a "my personal best interests" vs "the best interests of the group" divide.

The problem we seem to be having in this country is not that there are voters in both camps. There should be a long negotiated balance between what is best for individuals vs what is best for the country. And there should be give and take to maintain a balance there.

The problem as I see it is that nearly all politicians are in the "my personal best interests" camp, and so there is no real balance being struck.

I do think that a certain section of the poor vote Democrat in an automaton-like fashion. This section of the poor is the section most likely to stay poor. They want handouts from the government, and they want the rich to be taxed at a higher rate. They want a social hammock, not a safety net. It is mainly the inner city poor that are likely to fit this profile.

Not all poor people vote Democrat of course. The rural poor, who are used to hard work and despise reliance upon any government are more likely to vote Republican.

Now why do a certain section of the poor always vote Democrat? I believe this section lack ambition and drive. They have no real desire nor intrinsic capability to go out and better their own condition. They complain about living in squalid neighbourhoods and about how the system has opressed them, but they do nothing to break the cycle. This is the archetypal poor voter who will consistently vote Democrat because the Democrats stand for increased taxpayer expenditure on social welfare programs. This section of the poor will always be poor in my opinion, because they are unwilling and incapable to work hard to become successful. As such, the Democrats are assured of a loyal voter base amongst this section.

We are talking about historical trends though. In modern times, the Republican party has spent too much and too foolishly. The Democrat party's social agenda is becoming ever more vicious and their fiscal control aims more fascist in nature.

Short version : both parties will screw over the public in different ways. In the end, neither will bring happiness and prosperity. If you want prosperity, you have to create it yourself regardless of the governmental interference.
