I did use the search box to see if this has been posted and did not find this specific theory. If so i apologize and mods please lock/delete thread.

I have been following the LHC start up with some anticipation i admit, not in the way or sense in looking forward to that day though. My friend asked me what does CERN's numerological order falls under, so to satisfy ourselves i did search and first nothing. I then just googled "CERN =666" and got this..

That makes a pretty clear 666 "statement", imo. The most obvious was staring me in my face the whole time. I am slow at times

I read some posts on the site i got this from and some quite unbelievable things are being said/posted there. Yes, clearly these people are anti-LHC and CERN but it is presented quite decently with some great links.

www.lhcfacts.org...

Interesting thing i read. On a another forum link posted on above link, a poster yy2bggggs wrote this:

yy2bggggs wrote: We don’t want to know if it’s possible we will blow up the world–because, quite frankly, we already know the answer. And the answer is, quite frankly, despite all the testing we will ever do–yes. It’s possible. That doesn’t help us.

What we want to know is if we are going to destroy the world. And we can’t know this with certainty, but in reality, we don’t really care about certainty. We care about whether or not it’s probable–that is, likely, that we will destroy the world. So again, possibility–irrelevant. Likelihood–key.

He/she is asked this:

I don't know your identity. Do you have influence at CERN?

And he/she replies"

Irrelevant. How much of a risk CERN is willing to take has absolutely no bearing on how much of a danger we're in.

forums.xkcd.com...

Now i do not think this person has any influence at CERN nor regarding the LHC but if you read that long disagreement/debate/argument you will clearly see this person is not a fool and quite clued up. Some fundi?

I read all about the pro's eg: LHC will provide 1GB's per sec internet lines, energy saving ..well all the "good" it will provide.

But when scientists say “We are at a point where experiments must guide us, we cannot make progress without them,” explains Jim Virdee, a particle physicist at Imperial College London.” i see it in a way that they do not have control over it. This is not an "experiment" in a small lab but a 27km atom smasher.

Nothing us weary/scared/doubters say or do will change that thing from starting and nor do i know what will happen when it starts up, but bloody hell i DOUBT that the scientists know what is in store when that red button will be pressed.

**Anything that could have been mentioned on ATS in regards to what i posted about th LHC please direct me to those, as i have found a few LHC threads but not in regards as to what i posted

Internet conspirators have also pointed out the organization's logo, constructed from the drawn paths of three supercolliders, resembles the organization's name surrounded by the numerals 666, a number Bible prophecy assigns to the end-times Antichrist.

Others have whispered that a statue of "the Indian god of destruction" Lord Shiva, given to CERN by Indian dignitaries four years ago and displayed outside the building, is proof that the organization is destined to destroy the world.

CERN physicist Alvaro De Rújula in the BBC LHC documentary, 'The Six Billion Dollar Experiment', incredibly admits, "Will we find the Higgs particle at the LHC? That, of course, is the question. And the answer is, science is what we do when we don't know what we're doing."

I think it is an interesting coincidence that CERN is turned on as the world population reaches 6.66 billion (in April 2008)

German chemist Otto Rossler has filed a complaint with the European Court Of Human Rights — although he thinks the test will take a little longer to kill us.

He claimed: “Nothing will happen for at least four years. Then someone will spot a light-ray coming out of the Indian Ocean.

“A few weeks later we will see a stream of particles coming out of the soil on the other side of the planet. Then we will know there is a little quasar inside the planet.

...your humor is beyond played-out. I'd dock you a one-liner.

Here's the idea, contributing:

The science that governs CERN is far from complete, that much is certain.

I beg your pardon.

I was attempting to provide a concise summary of what the majority of the scientific community opines in regard to the outcome of various high energy experiments to be conducted with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. I was by no means disallowing the catastrophic possibilities put forth by the few physicists who hold equally (I'm sure) valid viewpoints.

They're going to time travel? Hate to tell you this, but companies and schools have been using 1GB "lines" for some time now. Granted, it wasn't to the Internet, but there was no TECHNICAL reason to keep them from it.

I was hooking up GB fiber optic to networks back in 98 or 99. In fact, one school corporation that had been paying for T-1 lines between all it's various schools replaced them with fiber optic cables that it laid in rights of way. That was at least 6 or 7 years ago.

The only thing keeping us from having Gigabit internet lines into our homes right now is the greed of the big companies. The same reason it took FOREVER for DSL to become common place.

Which would the phone company rather sell you (at that time) a T-1 lines doing 1.544 Mbps for $1,200, or a DSL line doing approximately 1.5 Mbps for $50 a month?

At one point, you could call and get a T-1 line in a building within a week. It would take 6-8 weeks to get a DSL line (which is what is called a "dry pair", aka an "alarm circuit"). If you told them it was for an alarm circuit, you had it within a week. If you told them it was for DSL, why it was 6 to 8 weeks. Imagine that. (Same physical connection, mind you)

Sorry, I've kind of went off track, but I hate seeing incorrect computer information being propagated. Call it a professional quirk.

This is a load of rubbish...

It's now well established that the number of the beast is actually 616 not 666

Satanists, apocalypse watchers and heavy metal guitarists may have to adjust their demonic numerology after a recently deciphered ancient biblical text revealed that 666 is not the fabled Number of the Beast after all.

A fragment from the oldest surviving copy of the New Testament, dating to the Third century, gives the more mundane 616 as the mark of the Antichrist

Full story here, and many other webpages

Something I learned while watching a show on CERN and the collider that I didn't know before is that the birth of the World Wide Web came from CERN at the location of the collider, it was discovered essentially as a mistake.

There are two circles on the symbol. Personally, I think this is in reference to beams travelling in opposite directions leading to collisions, where particles will disperse.

Rock is correct, its 616. Its amazing the amount of people that think the number is so significant and yet get it wrong.

I still say the CERN logo looks more like "p69qd" than "666".

Stretching things here a bit. The number of the beast has nothing to do with anything like CERN. Why would you even be searching for CERN = 666? Do you often search things with 666 at the end or something?

Also, I really don't see 3 6's there. I can see where you might make out 2 of them, but there are other parts coming off that aren't even long enough to make a 6.

Yes, I don't see the 666 either. Why would they put a 666 on their logo anyway? Just to get more unwanted attention?

The logo is one thing i should not have posted. I see three sixes but i also see circles or the "accelerator". I can agree with most who posted here.

I followed the three lines touching the edges of the logo, they all lead back to the upper of the two circles. Then all true, it can be totally the opposite of 666, so i do apologize if i offended anyone

Nonetheless as to the links i supplied, i found some (A LOT OF) really interesting things said by LHC bloggers/haters which stunned/shocked me so much that the "logo conspiracy theory" i forgot that same night.

I still don't like nor trust CERN and their LHC in honesty, that i will admit. Maybe with time i will cool down to them.

*sir_chancealot, Thanks for the info. Some member told me that some company developed a chip that makes 1 Gb/s lines laughable, i cannot remember the exact speed but it was something unbelievable. I would be more than happy with a 1 Gb/s line

I congratulate you. At least you have what it takes to acknowledge that you may have made a mistake, and have an open mind to hear what others say. Most people here don't, specially the ones that make fantastic theories like "holograms hit WTC".

i dont even understand what their going to get out of this experement. my theroy is that when you shoot a partical that fast and one going the opposite way, and at the same time they are gaining mass and smash them together, something bad is bound to happen. PLUS what are they going to do after they run the collider and full power and their experimintation is complete. thats a whole lot of tax payers money down the drain if you ask me
. but all and all nice post.

Well when they turned it on initially, did it create a blackhole or something bad?

Last time I checked the earth wasnt being stretched into a piece of infinite spaghetti.

Also, I thought CERN was privately funded? Where does it say that it was used from tax payers money? Someone enlighten me?

And OP, yep....its 616 not 666

Hey guys, I've been watching this whole LHC debate for a while now. More recent news from CERN state they are going to run non-stop until somewhere near the end of 2011, then shut down for a year while they get everything ready for the 14TeV collision run. Forgive me for this, but you notice that the record run will be started near the end of 2012, could this actually have a bearing on the 2012 doomsday myth?

Peace
