Just saw this image on the Mars HiRise site. Looks like a person, or object sitting on the cliff edge. The object casts a long shadow, so it must be of some height.

Thats pretty interesting.

Could it just be a rock casting a long shadow because the sun is low in the Martian sky? Its difficult to tell from other shadows.

Also, whats the scale on this picture, do you know? Might give us a clue as to how big this thing is.

I was wondering about the scale issue myself. The sun doesn't seem to be so low that it would cast such a long shadow if it were in fact just a roundish shape stone. It appears to be a tall slender object, which makes no sense how it could be standing upright in such a way. There are no other like stones in the immediate area, which would make sense that their would be if it were a scattering of random rocks.

That's actually pretty freaky.
One lone martian looking in the distance at sunset, contemplating his existence, wondering why he was left behind, feeling so so lonely. It's so sad.

On another topic, may I suggest airbrushing the cameltoe from your avatar, it's really off-putting. Love the suit though.

on the east side from your "tower" (margin of the picture) you can see more dots, however they do not show a shadow that long at all! your object must be quite tall .. hm.. if we would know the position of the sun (angle) and the scale of the picture we could tell how tall the object is..

O, if you look on the North side of your spot , right in the river - more spots too , also not showing a long shadow .. it could be somehow a pillar of iron / lava from the past volcanic age?

funny enough, this is one of the very very few mars anomoly pics that actually has me interested
whatever it is, like others have said, its tall and slender, figuretivly speaking.
i think i read somewhere the cameras have a resolution of 12m per pixel and 120m per pixel or something liek that?
,ight have to go look at internos mars timeline thread again for the specs

I would have to say that would be one giant human!

The object is very interesting however....

It would be cool if we could get another angle of it.....

Not a person IMO! That is just nonsense!

Well of course it isn't a human, I didn't mean to imply that it is. But it is some type of structure I would imagine, and the shape looks (from its shadow cast) to be that of a standing person.

Intellect says it has to be a rock formation of some type, whatever it is, it looks out of place.

If it were a cylindrical shaped rock that tumbled from an impact, why would it come to rest standing on end?

Awesome.

Flagged. That reminds me of the angel of the north statue here in the UK.

Thanks for sharing that.

You have NO idea how much water I nearly spat over the pc when I saw that

..

Dloading the raw image for a better look.. taking a wee while..

I must admit..It's kinda out of character for the surroundings.Nothing else seems to be casting much in the way of a shadow except this.

still >

Guys check the bottom right of the raw image, what is that shadow thing? it looks very odd.

Edit: actually there are many more in the picture, it does not look normal for a shadow, looks almost like giant see through blankets. lol

You know, wouldn't it be something if it was one of these!
It's as good a theory as any.

Might as well be the Tardis for that matter. It looks, to me, like a boulder or something fairly large. Not a person or a life from, but a high spot catching the light a bit better than the rest of the area.

I don't know, the interesting part is that the shadow seems to be going in the opposite direction from the rest of the topography. And the shape of the shadow is one of something really thin and tall that is not consistent with the rest of the landscape.

I don't see any man standing on a cliff. Beside, how do you know it is a man, and not a boulder? All it look to me, is a speck surrounded by darkness. Anyway, If It is a man? Maybe, he the pilot of that Cylon raider, on the ground south of there? It not a Cylon raider. The shape of the rocks, kind of look like it.

I don't think it's an alien or anything (don't see any foot prints). It is kinda strange in that it looks to be one big rock (or something) in an area free of rocks. Unless, of course, it's just one rocky outcrop...which would be still be strange. It actually looks like a wart.

Just a heads up that you should let people on dailup know that second raw image is huge.

odd, but what i noticed is the shadow is in the opposite direction as the surrounding landscape. Scroll down a little and notice the shadows are falling to the right and down, where as this objects shadow is upwards and to the left.
