World's oldest sound recording played in US

An Edison Opera phonograph is displayed on the floor of the Mechanical Music Extravaganza at the Police Athletic League Building in Wayne, New Jersey in 2007. A 10-second excerpt from the French folksong "Au Clair de la Lune" made before the American Civil War was nothing less than the world's earliest sound recording.

I find it fascinating that we have media that is as true an art form as photography dating way back before the US Civil War. Although it was not electronic, it was a rendering of the vibrations of a live song, and could probably be considered along with photography as the first roots of even modern media.

We've come a long way in a short time.
