Students at U of Washington Will Be Tagged and Monitored in RFID Experiment

Welcome to the world of A Scanner Darkly -- made real. RFID readers that scan and track the tags will be installed throughout the campus' 6-story Paul Allen Building for computer science (pictured here).

Apparently they're doing this to 'see what the future is going to be like'.

Project leader Magda Balazinska says "we want to observe how a group of people uses these tools, whether they find them useful, how they adapt them."

Is that the truth, or is there something more sinister afoot?

This ain't that big of deal really.

I am in charge of the RFID access control system for a University in Oregon, and we implement all sorts of zoneable audit trail loop readers for a vast number of reasons. Keeping track of where every student individually goes is not high on the list. It's more of a group thing....(no joke intended

Plus, we already have cell phone features that allow you to pinpoint your buddies location via GPS....follow the dots.
