Ron Paul Gives up 2008 Presidential Bid to Focus on Congressinal Run

ronpaul2008.typepad.com

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero.

But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter.

I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.

Well, that's it folks. Ron Paul has all but given up for the 2008 Presidential elections. Of course he won't say directly that he's going to give up. He just uses other words. He's cutting back and focusing on his Congressional position. Yes, we all know what that means. He's giving up on the presidential run. It looks like he finally realizes that his efforts are not going to pay off. His less than 10 delegates hardly compares to the hundreds that the front-runner McCain has.

Ohh well our last hope.. Our modern day Jesus Christ has left the building.

This is truly sad news!

I have no hope for America now.

He was it and now its gone.

I can't believe he gave up, I feel so betrayed!

What about all the donations to his PRESIDENTIAL campaign?

What about the people who supported you RON?

What the hell man!

I'm sad for the rest of the day now

This really is sad news, but we all knew it inevitable. The Beast will feed, and even Ron Paul can't stop it.

It's gonna take a lot more than one good Captain to get this ship turned around.

And the media has their ANTI-christ darling, John McInsane.

Sad when the only Politician that gives the average citizen any hope of a better future, is the only politician who was totaly shunned by our pupeteered media.

I don't see how this says anything about his campaign for President.

He is no longer running for the Republican nomination as he sees McCain is pretty much a shoe-in no matter how ridiculous that is.

He is a Libertarian at heart. I wouldn't be surprised to see him run as an independent.

He'd probably win the election.

What about this part of his statement:

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get.

It sounds like he's accepted the inevitable, but he will not allow his supporters to be silenced.

He will continue to stay in the race as a thorn in the side of the PTB, IMHO, tilting at windmills and keeping the dream alive.

He already stated more than once he wouldnt do that..

But from what I understand he might have some good backing.. so I aint sure.. But highly doubtful that it might happen.

And just last Tuesday I voted for that guy. It's enough to make me want to boycott the elections in November. That way I can get a bumper sticker that says, "Don't blame me, I voted for Ron Paul."

Ah well, I guess it's all down hill from here.

THIS IS NOT TRUE, misquotes and lies like this are going to hurt his campaign, you need to remove this post!

here is his REAL Message:

Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If
I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It
will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It
will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have
embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans --
and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the
principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound
money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is
one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How
much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard
work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to
be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well.

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a
brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination
to fight on
, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the
convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with
so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a
national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of
course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican
party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third
parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the
ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a
Republican.

I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district
that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have
another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for
my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and
pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that
happen.

In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your
support, as always.
And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in
politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will
need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons,
the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be
hearing much from you and me.

Sincerely,

Ron

The title of this post is wrong, wrong, wrong. Someone ought to delete this whole thread immediately.

I am outraged at the OP's editorial misrepresentation of Ron Paul's campaign.

Here is the conclusion from Ron Paul's message:

In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! Like I said, he won't come out and straight up say that he's given up. Romney hasn't even said those exact words yet we all know his position. What else are we to think when he says he's cutting back his staff in the presidential race and focusing more on the state congressional run? It means he won't pull his name out of the hat, but he's done trying.

Notice also how much of the first paragraph has it's focus on the future past November.

It looks to me like he has realized defeat for this November.

Your title is misleading and wrong. It is your interpretation and it is not true. And did I mention you've got this wrong!

Thank you! Yes, you hit the main point exactly. He wouldn't put out a note ot all his supporters about his interest in keeping his congressional seat if he was still in the presidential race. You can only occupy one position at a time. He's chosen to take the congressional route.
