Ok folks - arguably the greatest song ever written about Aethisim...by the wonderful XTC. This just about sums it all up for anybody with an inkling....

I don't listen to much music, but saw your post and listened to the song and am glad there are some free thinkers putting music out. People are so easily led and religion scares me. Personally, the fact that there are diseases and suffering and wars does not make me think there is no God, especially if we are here to learn and grow. For me, it's just that the whole idea doesn't make any sense. I can understand that before our science could explain many things that people would have to create a God and a story about how we got here, but now...come on! I believe in other dimensions and spirituality but a seperate God that cares individually is ridiculous. It's good to know there are other Atheists, I only know one other and with Born Again Christians on one side and Mormons on the other, I am constantly the target of both...to "save" me! It gets very old. I mean no disrespect to either belief system, they are both truly great families and neighbors. I just don't want any more visitors or pamplets telling me to repent. I had a Darwin fish on my car and someone keyed my car all over. I try to be more tolerant to others than they have been to me. I finally told the Born Agains that I am an Atheist and have already done all of my soul searching. Now her children literally run from me! Like I would hurt little ones! So, thanks for posting the link to the song, I am going to send it to my extremely Atheist boss. She'll love it!

Heheh...well thanks. 'God' huh? 'Imagine' is pretty good too - but I think XTC's 'Dear God' is particularily hard-hitting
Still, sometimes a song can say more in 3 minutes than a library of academic texts...

Right on brother!
Hell - there's something seriously wrong with the US today if now we are getting christian extremists harrassing normal, sane folk. That's one of the reasons I posted this classic song - so, don't worry
99% of the world's intellectuals are with you!

Personally, I think the dark side of the moon is the ideal place for ALL religious extremists - christian, muslim, or otherwise...

Anyone heard Rush’s new album? Plenty of like sentiments to be found there. Here’s a good example.

The Way the Wind Blows

Now it's come to this
It's like we're back in the Dark Ages
From the Middle East to the Middle West
It's a world of superstition

Now it's come to this
Wide-eyed armies of the faithful
From the Middle East to the Middle West
Pray, and pass the ammunition

So many people think that way
You gotta watch what you say
To them and them, and others too
Who don't seem to see to things the way you do

We can only grow the way the wind blows
on a bare and weathered shore
We can only bow to the here and now
In our elemental war

We can only go the way the wind blows
We can only bow to the here and now
Or be broken down blow by blow

Now it's come to this
Hollow speeches of mass deception
From the Middle East to the Middle West
Like crusaders in a holy alliance

Now it's come to this
Like we're back in the dark ages
From the Middle East to the Middle West
It's a plague that resists our science

It seems to leave them partly blind
And they leave no child behind
While evil spirits haunt their sleep
While shepherds bless and count their sheep

Like the solitary pine
On a bare wind blasted shore
We can only grow the way the wind

blowswww.last.fm...
