Blackwater likely to be phased out of diplomatic duty.

www.miamiherald.com

WASHINGTON --
Troubled military contractor Blackwater USA is likely to be eased out of its role of guarding U.S. diplomats in Iraq in the aftermath of a shooting last month that left 17 Iraqi civilians dead, U.S. officials said Friday.

While no decisions have been finalized, Blackwater's role in Baghdad is likely to be taken over by one of two other contractors who provide security for the State Department in Iraq, the officials said. They are Triple Canopy and DynCorp International.

Being a cynic, this looks like a rather feeble attempt by the State Department to reduce the heat on themselves and Blackwater.
It's also interesting to note that Dyncorp are in the running for the top position at a time when they too are under investigation for services provided Vs what they have been paid for. To say that the whole outsourcing of this security work seems to be a lucrative line of work for politically connected high flyers would be a gross understatement, given the current situations under investigation.
Once again it seems that campaign donations and support trumps ability to perform the tasks at hand. We'll have to keep an eye on things to see how this all pans out but I just wonder what contracts Blackwater has pending as compensation for the loss of the Iraq work?

More on the Private Security contracts below. Now the State Department security chief has resigned. Getting out before even more of the brown stuff hit's the rotating ventilation device perhaps?

ap.google.com...

I don't see the private security guys wishing to take orders from, and being answerable to, the military chain of command. If they are going that far then why not give the job to the military, who are already budgeted for?

Holy Moly! everywhere I turn today there's something about Blackwater

Now they are being investigated for possible Payroll Tax evasion, see below..

kerry.senate.gov...

Is there anything else they can possibly get up to? In fact, hold that question, I'm sure there's plenty more to come

Well hooray!
Thats that problem solved then...off you go naughty Blackwater, give triple canopy and Dyncorp a stab at it.
That should calm things down a bit (SARC)..
Wasn't Dyncorp involved in smuggling people into the sex trade a while back?

"After Dyncorp and Halliburton contractors were exposed as having operated child prostitution rackets in the Balkans from the late 1990’s onwards (and more recently in the case of Halliburton), Rep. Cynthia McKinney attempted to get answers as to why the U.S. government continued to do business with these corporations.

On March 11th 2005, McKinney grilled Secretary Rumsfeld and General Myers on the Dyncorp scandal and its protection by the U.S. government.

“Mr. Secretary, I watched President Bush deliver a moving speech at the United Nations in September 2003, in which he mentioned the crisis of the sex trade. The President called for the punishment of those involved in this horrible business. But at the very moment of that speech, DynCorp was exposed for having been involved in the buying and selling of young women and children. While all of this was going on, DynCorp kept the Pentagon contract to administer the smallpox and anthrax vaccines, and is now working on a plague vaccine through the Joint Vaccine Acquisition Program. Mr. Secretary, is it [the] policy of the U.S. Government to reward companies that traffic in women and little girls?” "
