Some weird stuff in those linked articles...

This is a random comment from someone at the end of the first article.

I think you will find that this is going to set off a series of events starting with mysterious illnesses and spoiling of land around and near the crash site, also local waterways have probably now been contaminated.

And this is a quote from a related story to the second article, talking about the same event.

Limachi stated, "the animals aren't eating and some people are stuttering, it seems to be because they are frightened and worried about the impact."

I dont tend to loose my appetite or stutter when frightened or worried, I wonder how scared these people are?

Now Where Have I Read This Before?

I wouldn't worry too much until the Shoggoth arrives.

A little to close to home of wormwood prophesies for me. Now neurological complaints, stuttering, this is indeed frightening.

I don't know I still fell it strange that there are all these fireballs in the last few months.

I, myself am starting to feel uneasy with everything going on and all I can say is I sure hope it all passes.

Peru's Andina News Agency reported today that Puno's Regional Health Directorate sent a group of specialists to the Carancas community in the province of Chucuito near Bolivia to take samples of a meteorite that supposedly landed in the area. Jorge López Tejada, a representative for the institution, stated that an environmental cleaning crew was going to the area to take earth and water samples from the actual landing site and from surrounding areas. "The samples will be tested in Lima, where the necessary equipment is available. We hope that results will be ready within 7days," said Jorge López Tejada. In addition, Tejada stated that a health brigade, consisting of doctors and nurses would be sent to the landing site to aid people that had reported health problems after having gotten close to the supposed meteorite. "Between 10 and 12 people have reported dizziness, migraines and in some cases vomiting. They assure that after having had close contact with the object the symptoms began," stated Tejada. Furthermore, Tejada stated that check ups would be performed and that it had not been discarded that the symptoms could be related to the glowing object which fell from the sky. "They are healthy people, it could be (due to) radiation, we don't know, we are assuming, it's worth investigating. Things will be clearer tomorrow," stated Tejada.

We'll just have to wait to see what the analysis of the samples was...

WASTYT, thank you, I was wondering, don't meteorites contain iridium, and is that toxic?

Whatever it is, its making people sick, and yet there are people around the impact area taking samples without any kind of protection.

Considering it might be pretty much anything, wouldnt you expect the authorities to secure the area and take this a little more serious?

Just seems a bit irresponsible to me.

I lived there when I was 5. I could be just poor people wanting attention. It coulld be chemical, biological, radioactive or that cosmic dust stuff that makes plants grow all crazy and they never could find out what caused it.

I agree. A whole town has become ill yet these guys are handling the soil, which could be toxic, while breathing in noxious fumes...there shouldn't be anyone near there without gear on.

Yes, I noticed that, and had the same concern, odd.

I am trying to figure out what might be in this meteorite to make people sick.

I have heard of them falling in populated areas before, without toxic effects.

An Andromeda Strain event in real life. Interesting.

I'd sure lean towards the radioactive side as opposed to a biological event. Too bad they don't have homeland security in place with all the NBC equipment bells and whistles that virtually every police / fire department in the USA has, now.

Biological event like this, someone would ultimately die. Low level radiation sickness from under 50 REM exposure would have these symptoms with no loss of life. Be interesting in seeing if hair starts to fall out within the next week or so.

I guess we will just stay tuned....

It's either this, or we never hear about it. Take your pick.

Hopefully the "weird sickness" the folks there have endured was simply based off the smell. Not some new biological terror from outer space, ready to take over for us.

This is incredible. I am floored at the possibilities we could be looking at. I have never heard of anything like this ever happening. I will be keeping a close eye on this story.
Instead of worrying about a planet killing meteor, how about one carrying biological killing substances from other enviroments of course alien to earth.
It would seem bacteria, or viruses would burn in the atmosphere. I have heard of bacteria living in the molten water on the ocean floor.
It could be radiation as well.
Lets hope it does not hurt anyone else, and that the villagers heal and move forward.
Thanks for the post OP.

How awfully strange. If it was radiation dont you think the authorities would be evacuating those people pronto??Bad odor so obviously air-born...could it be something that had been in the earth under the impact??Just throwing out a maybe...

well as cruel as that sunds we will see if the film crew and the rest of those people start having the same effects later .Maybe it was just some concentration of gases that were released due to the meteor hit and were only toxic for a brief ammount of time ....

I just woke up and read about this. What an interesting story. It's too bad that the answer is probably going to be some mudane response like radiation left over from the meteorite, or a release of gas from the earth at the impact zone.

What if it really was some alien biological material, or virus? Would we be able to cope with that, or do we have the necessary equipment to contain it? Definetely going to keep an eye on this.
