That's called a bug. The frame rate cannot keep up with the motion of the insect so it appears to be one large creature when it is actually the result of a slow frame rate. Try it at 60 fps and you'll see the difference.

no one has been able to classify what insect it is, but they all look the same...

thats amazing footage right there... the length and the characterists of the movement...

I'm sure many rods are misidents but some rods have been filmed travelling at huge speeds and at high altitudes or underwater so they cannot all be insects.

You are quite right...it has to do with motion blurr caused by the fact that a video camera can't resolve the insect (usually a moth) in a single frame, so the result is something like a long-exposure image...the long membrane wing being the the blurred image of the moth's wing beating up and down (while moving forward), and the rod being the moth's body. In fact people have shown that by videotaping moths, they can get EXACTLY the same result as purported videotape of rods...like the video in the OP.

There were some people somewhere who set up a night-vision camera and some nets. The camera picked up the rods, and the things getting caught in the nets. When they checked to see waht was caught, they found only moths.

Now, some people will say "just because you can make a moth on a video look just like a flying rod doesn't mean rods don't exist". That may be true, but since most the evidence that rod believers have are these various videos, I'd say it's a pretty good chance that Flying rods don't exist. EDIT: Until I see more and different evidence, I won't believe in their existence.

The lens is spead up, so you can get it, in as many frames as you can because they travel so fast.

NOT slown down so you can move fast and cause a blurr...

1. It's a flying insect.

2. Annoying title effects.

3. Why do you have white text on a lemon-yellow background for your mini profile?

I'd like to see some evidence of these underwater and high altitude rods you are referring to. And what is a HUGE speed?

Bugs, they are all bugs. I can't fathom how people still think they could be anything else.

Four times? Will it seem less hysterically funny by the fourth time?

I think I made it in about ten minutes before I had to prevent injury to myself from side-splitting, eye-rolling, and the like.
