Due to the sheer volume of UFO reports that surface here at ATS, it would seem logical that at some point a REAL UFO might show up. It is what many of us hope for.

SETI looks for "verbal/audio" contact, and has some plans in place should this happen. They have a protocol for a response, once they have vetted the incoming signal.

It seems that we too ought to have some plan for the day we hit the jackpot.

Consider this much like game theory. What should we do?

When do we consider evidence strong enough to warrant some action?

Do we turn our material over to someone else? and if so, who?

Consider this, aliens don't have to be intelligent. They might possibly be just a weird form of cow on another planet. Or maybe they don't vocalize the same way we do or do not use radio waves? But I believe we should attempt to find out more about the E.T.s before returning a call and confirming that a more primitive civilization is waiting to be conquered.

Edit: Also what do you mean by "turn it over to someone else"? I is confuzzled

Cydonian, Oh I agree. But what I'm looking at is just a bit more nuts and bolts. We have no control over what SETI does.

But if we had someone come here with pictures, and a reliable story. And the usual checking process took place. IF enough of the intelligent people here thought that there was a sound basis to this claim, What next?

I'm just wondering who do you call? The Air Force? The cops? Who?

Do you try to get members from that area to check this out?

Do you involve MUFON or some other group?

Once there's a good feel that something is real, that there's a chance to further the cause of establishing UFOs as real beyond a doubt, What do you do with that info?

As things stand here at ATS, we might talk about it for months, but how do you convince the rest of the world? Would we bother? Who could be trusted?

What if they're not dead?

But this is a serious question. It is one that needs to be thought about and addressed BEFORE the time comes.

A lot of people bemoan the fact that these videos turn up on YouTube, but there are a lot of people who have no clue what to do after the picture is taken.

I think if people on this site are serious about UFOs, then they ought to be serious about trying to have at least some plan in place to handle such an event.

Well for one if a civilian was to come in contact with an alien or alien craft, he would likely keep it secret. You would not want to be marked out with a "K" or "commit suicide" now would you?

What? Dont we have, here on ATS, dozens of people who communicate with Greys all the time? You can't go through any extensive thread on here without running into abductees, contactees, experiencers, and people who talk to aliens in their head on a constant basis.

CALL THE MONSTER SQUAD!!!!!!!

heh, honestly with the amount of ATSers and their many unknown abilities im sure you could post it up here and have at least a dozen in a 100 mile radius to investigate on a more personal level, USAF and the other goobers will just hide it and say " nothing more to see here, move on " while a Et is breakdancin on a peice of intergalatic cardboard right in front of you, so I wouldnt say to give them a hollah.

Your best bet for Et info on a occuring event would be better off to make it public, Panic, widespread chaos? Lets have at it, might be a better outcome then it going unnoticed and labeled a meteor or space balloon.

ATS all the way babah!

BooooooooYakaaaaaaah.

And the ever persistant "Drones". Grrr

That may be true for we paranoid types, but the average person might want to get the word out somehow. But security for that person would be part of a response.

Maybe getting a complete statement out and ready to be turned over to a variety of newspapers and such would be insurance. But who? how many?

And what if this person was willing to take others to a spot where this craft was seen regularly? (Though it seems to be a hoax, think of the person who said they saw the 'Chad" drone on separate times. Wouldn't a field trip be in order?)

The best people to turn it over to would be the members of ATS. What better qualified group to handle a situation like that.
I would imagine everyone would decide a central location to meet and make decisions. I dont think anyone would mind traveling for a meeting concerning ET contact.
Maybe we should come up with a set of guidelines and rules for this type of experience.

But maybe it wont be up to us on the handeling, they may handle us.

if you had contact or better yet, intimate Et encounters, then I would think its part of yer humane duty to make as many recordings of it as possible an send it to everyone with a mouth.

Rock it!

The fact remains that most real ufo sightings never get reported, mean while the enternet is flooded with Shi7 like the "Chad" pictures or anything on youtube.

Earth2, exactly what I am looking for. If a lot of us tackled this, we could come up with a set of guidelines to handle a situation like this without fumbling any of the evidence.

We could also have an idea of how best to make it known.

And ATS is the biggest place around, so logic says that such a thing could very easily get handed to us.

I think we ought to give this some thought, and put out some ideas to sort through.

Well, duh! The first step would be weeding out the BS from the real deal. I would recomend an "I just had a close encounter" Forum section here on ATS. You would tell wether it was a 1st, 2nd, or third encounter and others would rank on a scale of 1 to 10 the reliability of this encounter

Cydonia, that would be the first logical step. This could actually work well in the framework that Shuyler is wanting to put together to give a bit of training. Not as a part of his idea per se, but complimentary to it, and using some of those who would be studying the UFO phenomenon as a whole.

But it would also require folks who were media savvy and maybe with some contacts as well.

And bear in mind, for this to work well, we would need to move pretty swiftly to be ahead of anyone lurking here who might not want such a thing to get out.

We would first need the assistance of the admin ....

Cydonia, you are so right on that. I am just trying to lay the groundwork to see if the interest is there. And to get some input on useful ideas before I try to bring this to the attention of the already overworked and underpaid staff.

Actually, if there's not good interest in this idea from a number of diverse people, the idea would flop. And it needs to be a wide range of people, including the more skeptical. These folks would act as our control factor, and be invaluable.

I want this to be a serious effort to set a system in place that could be accessed at any time, probably in stages-but fairly fast- to set in motion a way to not let a real event slip through the cracks.

But, yes, Admin would need to be on board with such an idea.

Quick! Tell the admin we are being over run with gay porn on this forum! That shall get their attention, then they will be forced to notice this thread. All jokes aside, we would also need a reliability rating so if they try to post BS more than once we will have a warning of past violations of the rules (which would include no photoshop etc etc)
