I think that would be interesting. I certainly would like to participate (I almost gave you a list of answers until I realized you were asking for a census not conducting one )

Actually a while back there was a census sort of. One day when I logged on there was a pop up survey that asked for me to fill out several questions. After a while the results were tallied and shown it was quite the interesting read.

PS you forgot Pagans in the list of religions there.

Also the ATS Stats give you a nice breakdown of all sorts of different numbers for you to crunch.

I kind of feel that the internet is the place where you don't have to be seen as the person you are. You don't have to admit to being married etc etc.

Also you are likely to get a lot of stupid answers, like when in the last UK cencus shed loads of people said that their religion was "Jedi"

BTW I'm 756 years old and my favourite colour is crayola's new rotting flesh.

*Removed quote of entire previous post*

no one would know its you :p
and the ansers would be there (drop down box)
so jedi wouldnt be there

this is just to see how many people belong to diffrent groups
and it would show the depth of diverity on ATS

First Im not een going to ask why you dont want people to know that you are married
Second thats something that cant be tracked to you..I mean its not like you put you are jewish then all of sudden its going to show up in your profile. Either way if we do get to take a census I'm pretty sure that it will be purely optional
....Also Id like to know how many other females are on this site... soetimes I feel its just me and like 2-3 others (I'm sure there is more though)

Oh so now I can't be a jedi cos you say so! It's bad enough when the goverenment says I'm wrong but but but, You've really hurt my feelings and freedom of choice.

I now feel the need to paint half of my face blue and run around the living room wearing my wife's burberry skirt, waving a sword (curtain pole) and screaming FREEDOM at the top of my voice.

Damm now you know I'm married

I feel it would go against ATS's way of doing things if the census was manditory.

As for having drop down boxes on possible answers. No way. Why does someone else get to decide how I can answer. If I want to put Jedi, Pagan, Jew, that is my decision.

A census carries more value with the biggest data pool possible and needs to be seen as adding value and getting people the opportunity to express a geninue answer rather than just clicking a selction to add an answer.

And I one of those you added Jedi to the last UK census. It has given people lots to talk about and started some myths.

Here we go everybody: The 2007 ATS Demographics Survey

There is also a thread that gives percentages for how many users have come from what country, but I can't for the life of me find it.

I have to say a census, at least a mandatory one is a bad idea, part of
ATS is not having people have preconceived notions about you because
you are part of one group, but rather on your self.

Anyways though, I'd participate in one, but I think that all the answers are
already there, as can be seen in the above posts.

i know about that

it doesnt cover almost all points of what i have asked
religion and country of origion

I don't think most people here could really identify with a single religion,
so that would be sort of difficult.

As for country, well most people here are from the U.S., Canada,
Australia, the UK and western Europe.

That was already covered to.

Oh, Ok, I get you now.
Well, there's still a problem with that, some people have multiple origins.
Like both my parents were born here, but my maternal grandma was
Spanish, my maternal great grandparents were Norwegian, my paternal
family is American, English, Scottish and Swedish if I go back far enough.

How far would you have it go back for consideration?

I'm Theran-Agnostic, I can definitely say that would not be a choice for
a belief, so I don't think it would be that easy.

It's only May, give it some time.

If I remember right though, Cuba is usually at the bottom of the list,
with between a dozen and a few hundred.

Personally speaking, I love the idea of a yearly census covering many of the points raised by Bodrul. Naturally this information is entirely anonymous and, as mentioned in a previous post, impossible to trace. Why have a census? Simple. I think it's interesting and I'm certain others would also find it interesting.

One thing that I would like to see is an actual "location" listed under one's avatar. As it stands now, we often don't know where a poster is located. It's something that I would certainly like to know.
