2.5 worlds for me.

some of these questions seem odd. for instance if you dont farm your own food or hunt then odds are you dont eat local food.

I think the US must be just about the most wasteful country in the world and I would like to see us change that. I do worry about what the environment will be like for my son by the time he is grown. What am I leaving him?

I think that there are small things that every one could do to make a difference. I don't think they have to be big things, like selling our cars or becoming vegetarians. Of course bigger changes will have bigger impacts, but I know there are things we, as individuals, can change without really giving up anything.

As an example, I turn off the breaker to my hot water heater every night and turn it back on during the day. It saves energy and reduces my electric bill by $25 - $30 each month.

Here's a map actually showing the proportions of countries if they had land as they have consumption.

Way out of proportions!

From this thread:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

I did a similar test on another thread some months back, I was below average, so book me for 2.5 planet.

By the way, will the winner be the one with most planets consumed?

Some quiz. They don't even list the country I live in.

So I put a nearby country into the box and went on to get this.

FOOD 0.6
MOBILITY 1.3
SHELTER 2.3
GOODS/SERVICES 1.3
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 5.5

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 3.1 PLANETS.

I'm disappointed. I thought I was more of a capitalist pig than that.

But this quiz is rubbish, you know. It's so crude and the variables are so large that everyone's answer is probably off by a range of three or four planets each way.

i guess New Zealand is pretty good when it comes to footprints or we are just way to small to count for anything

2.something score for me with 5.6 as the national score, 3 planets needed.
The scoring is stupid in some ways, most of my score is because I eat meat 1ce a day.

According to that test you'd have to be a vegetarian to be any good, which is utter and complete bullocks.

in the FAQ you can download an excel version i order to see the
figures and formulas:

redefiningprogress.org...

I have not validated this but will look into it.

The Excel Version of this survey information:
Produced by Mathis Wackernagel, Chad Monfreda, Diana Deumling, and Ritik Dholakia
(Version 1.0 was released in 1997 at the Centre for Sustainability Studies at the Unversidad Anáhuac de Xalapa, Mexico).

The life-energy accounting is taken from Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin, 1992. Your Money or Your Life. Penguin, New York.

It shows why consuming less can increase our quality of life since it frees time we otherwise needed to work to pay for our consumption.

Wow - we may end up living better on a smaller footprint!

will post some of the formulas from the excel later on.
