Watched the new bond film. I thought it was excellent no gimmick gadgetery or dodgy punchlines, overall not a classic bond film but a great action film and you actually see Bond kicking ass. One thing I dont understand is why did Bond need to play in the poker game when Le chiffre already knew who he was??

because the whole point of the poker game was for james to win so le chiffre couldnt win back the terrorists money he lost playing the stock market (hence the guy trying to bomb the jet in miami) so mi6 could black mail him

Def worth seeing.

Also surely in the real world no government would risk that sort of money on a poker game wouldnt they just seize the money?? anyway I guess its just a film and I thought it was brilliant, I wont spoil it by discussing favourite scenes etc... for those of you who havnt seen it

Hell no. I don't think people would be lining up around the block for a Brosnan movie.

This is the new Bond.

Yeah hands down Daniel Craig portrayed a new bond for the new generation. I don't think this film really lacked anything!

It did seem to carry on but not negatively.. it's like you WANTED to see more.. when you saw it kept going its.. like there were no complaints.. just more "I want to see more ass kicking".

Overall.. there was good character development. I enjoy him being Bond over Pierce cause he seems to show off a more serious side.. and not afraid to do some ass kicking or getting dirty.. I enjoy him being Bond.

I havent seen the movie yet, but my guess would be that they played poker (probably texas holdem or omaha) because its very popular now and thats how advertising works. Just one more tiny voice telling you that the movie's gonna be cool - go see it (if u play poker that is). Infact, in several other movies and tv shows, texas holdem has popped up for no apparent reason except that its popular these days.

Not having seen the movie, please tell me they play table stakes and dont use the typical movie cliche of adding money to the game that wasnt already in play (an illigal move in any game, anywhere, 'cept in movie land).

The whole poker thing is wrong anyway. In the original book, they play Bacarat, but I guess the majority of people woudn't have a clue how to play that, and hence they wouldn't follow what was going on.

Yes it was table stakes I think the dealer had to remind the players of thiss at one point in the game

Casino Royale for the win. Please..

I highly recommend anyone that hasn't seen this movie to see it. It should be like a hajje for everyone to the local holy theater near you to pay your respects to James Bond

Yah i saw it last night. When that guy was all "another 2,000" I was like OH MY GOD NOOOO! but then the dealer actually said "no, sir this is tabel stakes!" Yay dealer! Of course he threw his keys on the pot, but I guess it could be a side bet.. shouldnt be on the table tho.

And I think Bond loses with Ah-Kh or A-A when the other guy sucks out on the river, very realistic, and annoying!
