Hi everybody. I have just purchased a used laptop from a computer store, and I always read about these stories where people buy these and run some sort of HDD recovery program and all types of stuff turns up. Not too long ago somebody who posted on ATS had recovered airplane diagrams or something like that. I figured, its worth the shot.

So I was wondering, what good free programs are out there that can do this? Just curious... Thanks for any help!

www.downloads.com This free one seems to be recommended by most.

I can recommend GetDataBack. It's very good at It's job.

I prefer "Recover My Files" ... it allows you to refine the scan to various file types. [i.e. .jpg, .avi, .wmv, etc.]

www.recovermyfiles.com...

The trial version is limited by file size [recovered], I believe, but the full version works wonders. Two formats and a reinstall and still able to recover over 400 family photos.

If you ever want to erase a hard drive use Darik's Boot and Nuke. If you find anything interesting let us know and don't be stealing his identity now.
