Proverbs 30;14

There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men

my friend found this in the bible sounds like a vampire to me

Why not a werewolf or any other folklore monster? There is nothing in that Proverb that says they drink blood. How did you jump to the vampire conclusion?

According to the original folklore from the Balky States, before Catholics & Christians "converted" everybody, vampires were not merely blood drinkers; They also ate the raw organs of their victims. Vampires weren't even given the status of being "undead" until the religious conversions. The Catholics & Christians also connected vampires with "demonology". It was all in an attempt to "explain" the basis of the old folklore in religious terms to the "newly converted" at the time.

You also need to consider that there are legends of vampires from all over the world, none of them connected to each other; Asians have their versions of vampires, Africa has their legends, and so on.

But still, I don't see any direct connection between the wording of the Proverb & vampires. It would require more study on the context in that Proverb. I must say that I'm more tempted to agree to the "corporate connection" mentioned earlier...

Lets take a look at some different Bible Versions to investigate this passage:

The quote from the NIV is:

14 those whose teeth are swords
and whose jaws are set with knives
to devour the poor from the earth,
the needy from among mankind.

And from the English Standard Version:

14There are those whose teeth are swords,
whose fangs are knives,
to devour the poor from off the earth,
the needy from among mankind.

However, 'The Message' Version states:

14 Don't be greedy,
merciless and cruel as wolves,
Tearing into the poor and feasting on them,
shredding the needy to pieces only to discard them.

The Contemporary English Version also states something slightly different to the 'Vampiric' reference:

14others are so greedy

that they gobble down

the poor and homeless.

I think this could just be a metaphor, linking vampires with the cruel actions of humans upon other humans, and our greed. I do not think it suggests that Vampires exist.

Of course, it depends on your opinion, and which version you read.

I am 100% sure that that proverb is metaphorical.
Geez, common sense people!
If we were to ake everything in the bible literal...God help us.

Just to put some skew on the subject, who's to say Corperations aren't Vampyric?

Seems an interesting twist of phrase to refer to both Vampyrs and Corperations as "blood suckers".

Could the referance refer to a social issue preceived much ahead of it's time, or could the rampent greed of today be caused by demonic influance?

Just stirring the pot a bit.

The vampire jump is not the worst conclusion nor is the corporate speculation. I think when people read anything like that statement they bring with them their own personal beliefs and knowledge. Just as the OP thought it was a vampire others thought corporations, but still others could read it and just as easily believe it was talking about super robots (terminators) or maybe even genetically altered human beings. I think the actually meaning is about a generation of humans, which are evil to the core – violent, destructive, aggressive monsters that do not care about anything.

I agree, wholeheartedly. When the original scriptures were penned (or "quilled", as the case may be), the authors made extensive use of parable & metaphor because they wanted even the most simple-minded people to be able to understand. That's one of the problems that scholars had, when trying to translate & interpret the ancient writs: Modern day minds have some trouble understanding the context that the authors used.

...Then you see the newspaper when it talks about the rise in violent crimes being committed...

In as much as the Saduceean priests were little different than the priests of th CoR
today the "blood suckers "refered to couls in all likelyhood be the priesthood in particular and all clergy in general.

Don't be greedy,
merciless and cruel as wolves,

It is quite obvious that the writer of this line had no knowledge of wolves. I would remind all here that there are only 2 species that kill just to kill. Man and rodents.
It is also instructive that humans that "feed" off other humans usually have rodent
monikers applied to them, IE: she's a RAT, He's a weasel, etc.

...And the ones who feed with subtlety are connected with the "serpent of Eden". Phrased like, "low-bellied snake", "snake in the grass"...

Hmmm...It seems we've gotten back around to Corporates (& Politicians) again!
