I was just wondering if all plane fanatics here on ATS could plan a fighter togheter. We have the knowledge, at least in my opinion, ow we just have to put it on paper. If you are interested, post here. if we are lucky we might get it in the research forum... What do you think...???

I think thats great Idea.

What would the operational perameters be?

Maybe a multirole VTOL with Supersonic performance?

Exellent

This is starting very good... JIMC5499, by all means, you can do the 3D modelling. I hoped to get some 3D specialist, and I think that we just found one. So, at the moment JIMC5499, Jezza, planeman, talon565 have shown their interest in this project. I'am still waiting for ShatteredSkies, Waynos, Zaphod58, Browno and maybe Integurl to respond here. Any other voluenteers may also join. When we have decided who will do what, I'll make a new thread. This thread will after that only work as a "planning" place. The pictures and the rest will be put in the other thread. Only ready modelling and writings may be posted there. Sketches and other drawings will be posted here. Good job guys, I look forward to work with you

manned or unmanned?

a strike platform or air supremacy? or a `jack of all trades master of none`

my opinion is a lifting body design of mother/slave ucav carrier with a mix of ultra high speed and slower but stealthier long range precision strike weapons.

Just downloaded airfoil cross section program compatible with my 3-D software.

Anybody have an ftp where I can upload files? My software is SolidWorks and I can produce full 3-d models with a self-contained viewer.

We need to run some polls so that we can agree on roughly what we are aiming at. Questions like:

Role: –Air-superiority, interdiction/strike, multi-role, swing-role, other
Size: heavy (F-22/Su-27/F-15), medium (F-18, Typhoon, Mig-29) or light (LCA, F-5E, FC-1, Mig-21).
manned or unmanned?
Cheap or Expensive?

then when we’ve agreed what we are aiming at we can work out the optimum performance and characteristics.

Design by committee…. Yippee

My vote would be to walk before we run. Let's keep it simple. Nothing says that we can't try one now and something more advances later. My vote would be something with the capabilities of say an F-5

Alright I think this is a great idea!

I love drawing Aircraft and I can produce a three way view of a possible design and if Jim is willing, he can make the 3D model for it, since I'm not too good at 3D modeling.

Currently I am learning to become a pilot, I'm enlisted in an aircraft program at my school and have some flight experience, Aircraft are my strong points.

Count me in. I'm afraid i can't really do much in the way of say, 3-D modeling or drawing up sketches, but I'd be happy to help with any odd jobs or things of the sort. Keep me posted.

Well this is what I have so far, It's widely based around the Su-27 series because I love them so much.

I haven't decided what it is yet, but it's what I've got so far, I'm planning on finishing that side view and the other views when I get more time for it, but now iit's late for me.

Seems like a neat idea. Being an artist myself, i'd like to help out in someway. Throw in a concept doodle or two or something.

ShatteredSkies, you should probably shrink that image down a bit.

this should be a great topic. gving ignorant people like myself to know the basic aircraft designs and their functions

Should cost be a factor?

I colored it abit but I suggest dumping the Su-27 theme. American figher aircraft have actually been proven in combat.

So has russian fighters. While not on the winning side but they do have combat experience

BTW: that picture loks like a disconfrigured Su-27. looks unstable so it should offer excellent manuverbility

OK, Exellent work. Yes we should decide what kind of an aircraft we should "build". And as I said before this is a thread were you can shoot out ideas. Well choose the best of them, and start dividing up teams (Who will do what). The final idea will be put in an oher thread.

OK, let's vote, vote by pressing numbers 1,2,3 etc.

Role:

1 Air-superiority
2 interdiction/strike
3 multi-role
4 swing-role, other

Size:

1A heavy (F-22/Su-27/F-15)
2B medium (F-18, Typhoon, Mig-29)
3B(LCA, F-5E, FC-1, Mig-21).

manned or unmanned?

Cheap or Expensive?
