The Minuteman group is a civilian / paramilitary group that has been in the spotlight this year for helping the Border Patrol in their attempt to stem the flood of illegal immigrants from entering the US. Ths Minuteman group are now taking their battle to the suburbs of America.
Armed with cameras, Walkie-talkies, and video cameras, they are now showing up where illegal immigrants wait to be picked up for day work.
The Minutemen, take the pictures of both the workers as well as the employers then give the photographic evidence to both the Tax office as well as to INS officials

HERNDON, Va., Nov. 2, 2005 — Opposition to the 10 million to 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States is growing. A citizen's group called the Minutemen, which conducts Mexican border patrols, is heading to the nation's suburbs, where migrant workers go for work.

"I think that we as people have the right to stand up and say, 'Enough is enough. It's got to stop," said Diane Bonieskie, a Minutemen volunteer.
In Herndon, Va., for example, 15 members of the Minutemen gathered to take their war on illegal immigration to the heart of suburbia. They were armed with paper badges, walkie-talkies, digital cameras and video recorders.

The Minutemen show up where illegal immigrants wait to be picked up for day jobs. They photograph the workers and their employers and plan to give the pictures to immigration and tax officials.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

The Minuteman group took this new tactic in response to the city's passing a proposal to community center for day laborers.
Of course the response from the Tenants and Workers Support Committee an organization for hispanics and African-Americans is that such actions by the Minutemen is " It's racist! It's a racist movement!"
I guess that this group would include the police department, INS, the court system are all racist since there are laws against illegal immigrants, hiring illegal immigrants and of course the police support those laws.

I like the Minutemen's new approach as they are now including going after the employers instead of just the illegal immigrant. Maybe, this will start to turn the tide.

Hooray!!!!
This is something the government should be doing, but all the fat cat politicians don't want to lose their cheap gardners and maids.

Bring the GI's home to police the borders. The real threat is the multi millions of illegal aliens infiltrating the US every year through our porous borders. Soon they will have the numbers to attack US military installations while all the professional soldiers are engaged overseas.

Sweet, that is a really good idea.
I wonder how long before people (read mexican legal and illegal's) complain about this too.
They are picking on us.
They are showing illegals and thoses who hire them to the proper authorities by using film, video and more.

Sorry, I just don't see any problems with this-yet. As with anything, good intentions can be abused by some and this will need to be kept in mind.

If a day worker is here legally-citizen or green card-it does not matter-just show your legal status and all is fine.

Now one fear is that this -May- be used to abuse those who are here legally, but can't read or write English. They may be intimidated by these people and then the abuse "could" begin.

lol-in reference to another post on requiring people to have legal ID-,"Papers Please".

I see both sides of this and I am sure this will be a "loaded" issue with strong argruments and feels on both sides.

Everyone ready, ok, go...

Something had to be done and I am glad to see that this group is trying to make a difference. I understand that most illegals are here to try and make a better life for them and their families. I also understand that most Americans would not be here if not for immigration but there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. These are extremely dangerous times for the USA and having porous borders with millions of illegals wandering into our country is a disaster waiting to happen. It is about time that someone started to hold the companies, small businesses and contractors responsible for hiring illegals. We have to get control of our borders and cut off the flood. Someone suggested bringing home the troops and let them patrol our borders, wish it were that easy. Altough I do not believe in intimidating the poor workers who are only trying to survive, the bottom line is they are breaking our laws. Just as Russia built walls to prevent people from escaping, perhaps we should build walls to prevent people from entering. We cannot just ignore the problem and hope it goes away.

While I agree with what the Minutemen are doing, let's not forget the real cause of the problem. The main cause of this problem are the employers who hire these illegal aliens. I resent having to provide documentation to my employer proving my right to work in the US and then see these contractors hire illegals. There has been numerous posts about companies and corporations taking advantage of their employees for corporate and personal gain, but yet the same people think that the employers of illegals arre doing something noble. The are taking advantage of these people to make a profit and what is worse is that they are openly breaking the law to do it. What I can't see is what makes this a racial issue, an illegal is an illegal I don't care what country they originally came from. Yes I may feel sorry for them, but that has nothing to do with this issue. I say start prosecuting the employers of illegals and that will remove a large part of the problem.

I voted 'yes' for this topic.

Excellent! I hope the minute men expose the problems and the
lack of commitment to the problems by the federal government.

I admire and respect what they are doing.

JIMC5499,
That is the thing here with what the Minutemen are doing.
They are taking the pictures of both the workers as well as the employers and then the Minutemen are giving this evidence to both INS as well as Tax officials.
So no instead of just "targeting the poor illegal immigrant" they are causing problems for the employers.

Kenshiro - the EMPLOYERS have caused their own problems.
They know when they hire illegals and when they don't.
They aren't stupid. When they get caught with their hands
in the cookie jar, they deserve to be punished along with
the illegals.

Flyersfan,
We are on the same page.
Yes the employers know when they are breaking the law but they have ignored the law since there has been no real enforcement of the laws.
Here the Minutemen are providing physical evidence to tax offices so that the city / state / feds can go after the employers.

Where can I sign up for the Minutemen Project. Up here in Ohio, we are SWAMPED with illegals. A cute trick employed by the illegals up this way are to work their way from Mexico (or wherever) into Canada and then bleed across the world's longest and unguarded border.

I say BRAVO, BRAVO!!! Keep up the excellent work! On another note - let's vote out EVERY politician who has yet to take a stand against illegals - even those who speak out but do nothing. I want to see some action taken by our government and I want to see it NOW!!!

Note to any politicians: I used to be a Democrat who became disgusted with the LIberal agenda and became a Republican who became disgusted with the Corporate agenda who is now an Independent Moderate who is disgusted with BOTH parties and will not vote for either. And rest assured, I am not the first nor the last. We are a growing group soon to be in the majority!

...how do they work out if they are illegal?

They go and spy on a group of people who they think are not from the United States?

So racial profiling.

Good work boys.

... So f'ing WHAT!? Would it make better sense to go look for white males in their 40's if we are attempting to catch illegal immigrants??? Maybe they should case country clubs and corporate boardrooms, right!? We'd certainly catch TONS of illegals going that route, right Odium???

Yes, PLEASE racially profile and drop all of the political correctness crap! It is high time that we use the brains that God gave us and pursue illegal activities in a LOGICAL manner!

Odium,
how is it racial profiling? are they saying that all the people who are at these hangouts are of the same race? If so can you point that out to me because I have missed it.
The only one that has raised the race card was the spokesman for Tenants and Workers Support Committee which bills itself as a

The Tenants’ and Workers’ Support Committee is a democratically-controlled, grassroots organization committed to winning social and economic justice and power for the people of Northern Virginia – Latinos/as, African Americans, tenants, immigrants, workers, women, youth and low-income people.

so again, where is the racial profiling and who is the one doing it? the Minutemen who are targeting all illegal immigrants or the Tenants’ and Workers’ Support Committee who is charging the Minutemen because they are mainly of caucasian descent?

So what...

They follow around a group of people on the basis the think they do not have the rights to be in the Nation?

Isn't that stalking?

Well it is.

If they follow people around on the basis they think they are doing something wrong, video it and report it back to the Police I hope they get arrested and charged for defamation of character, stalking and tress pass to land if they go on their property.

Sorry, but if someone was following me around and videoing me that is what I would have done to them.

Oh great you knew sooner or later the PC Police would find this post.
If you are looking for illegal Mexicans you don't hang around O'Rileys Pub now do ya? The area's they are targeting are known congregating areas for illegals to find day work. Racial profiling is a cop out. If a black man with a red hat robs a bank do you stop all men with red hats just so you are not racially profiling? Gimme a break with the PC stuff. Last estimate I saw there are 20 million illegal immigrants in the USA. It is a major problem and it needs to be addressed. Whats wrong with stopping a Mexican and questioning them if you are looking for a Mexican in the first damn place?

BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAH

You're kidding me, right? If I wasn't laughing so hard I'd pull out the disctionary and help you, but I think you could use the mental exercise on your own - look it up!

Secondly, when you are looking for perpetrators of a crime, you use logic and deductive reasoning. So, logically speaking, if we are looking for ILLEGAL immigrants the first thing we have to DEDUCE is WHERE are the illegals coming from? Well, we know it's latin countries. So, the next step would be to determine where these LATIN, ILLEGALS would congregate? Well, logic and an exercise of reason would tell us that historically they wind up with the day laborers looking for short-term or under-the-table work. So again, LOGIC and REASON would dictate that if we are seeking illegal immigrants already IN the US, go look for Latinos hanging out with other day laborers!

Man, is this so hard to grasp? If I wanted to go pick apples I wouldn't venture into a corn field!

They do not have to follow anyone around.
1) the city is planning to build a community center for day laborers
2) the places that thay are monitoring are known hangouts and locations for where employers can get day help.
3) since no one employer noe employee actually claim the work and monies paid for the work to any goverment, they are breaking the law.

When you make statments like that, you then are saying the video camera that are used by police forces to help nab criminals, the cameras that are used at traffic signs to catch speeders, the cameras at stores to catch the thieves robbing them are all illegal.

The use of the videographic evidence would and can only be considered defamatory if they were to turn it over to a paper or tv station and the Minutemen stated that EVERYONE was an illegal immigrant. They do not do that. As per the article, the Minutemen turn this evidence over to tax officials and INS. These goverment officials then make the determination of who maybe illegal and what employers need to be targeted
