Russia's state arms exporter -Rosoboronexport ,showcased new state of art weaponry and equipment intended to combat terrorism on July 27th 2005 .

The exhibition was named "Anti-Terror Weapons,"

The show presented a selection of weapons and military equipment, many of which have no analogues in the world. Russia has won foreign markets in over 50 states,

Here are some of the main products :

Anti terror Robot : It has not been named yet

This unique Robot can detect bombs in a street, in a building, at the bottom of a car or inside its saloon, in a truck.
The robot can neutralize a bomb too, if necessary.
The invention is outfitted with a remote control system, which allows to manipulate the machine at the distance of 600 meters.
The robot weighs only 40 kilos and can be packed in two suitcases.

Weapons that can neutralize but not kill Terrorists :

Russian defense specialists designed grenade-launchers, which can target terrorists' respiratory apparatus, blind and deafen them or disable extremists with rubber grape-shots.

The "Redut" flak jacket

This is already in use in the Russian anti-terrorist groups for their daily activities

The "Redut" flak jacket guarantees protection against bullets, including TT steel-headed bullets. If battling conditions are much more serious, the "Redut" flak jacket can be transformed into an enhanced version, which saves military men from automatic fire of the M-16A1 gun. "Armor" suit designed for explosion specialists secures a person against an explosion of some 1.5 kilos of TNT, even if a bomb blasts only one meter afar.

Guns
The display included the
APS assault rifle, which shoots 120-mm-long needle-like arrows; the silent VSS sniper rifle, with 9 mm bullets;

the VSK-94 sniper rifle, which can pierce 8 mm-thick sheet steel at a distance of 100 metres; the world's lightest compact assault rifle,

the Vikhr, which fires powerful 9 mm bullets;

and a special silent AS submachine gun that can pierce any bullet-proof vest.

the Under Water machine gun

A machine gun for underwater battles enjoyed special attention at the show. The gun, which has no analogues in armed forces of foreign states, can destroy targets at the range of about 30 meters.

"This is ... unique equipment that we will sell to 50 countries in the world," Rosoboronexport deputy general director Anatoly Isaikin said at a presentation at the Interior Ministry research center.

apart from these various weapons were displayed that can be used by civilians to protect themselves from terrorists

the exhibition was conducted by Rosoboronexport

The agency hopes the new gadgets, including an underwater assault rifle, will help increase the company's sales in that segment. Sales of anti-terror equipment make up just 1 percent of the company's annual turnover of $5 billion.
Rosoboronexport mainly sells its anti-terror weapons to countries in Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Arab world.
It does not sell its high-tech gadgets to Europe or the United States, as NATO standards differ from those in Russia, Isaikin said.
Rosoboronexport is, however, in regular contact with security services of Western countries, Isaikin said.
"We have been developing special equipment for quite a while based on our experience in Chechnya and terrorist acts elsewhere in Russia and have much to share," he said.

that pretty good tools against the terrorists but America is way ahead in developing those tools to combat terrorism. and has been for a long time. Russia has been terrorized by Islamic terrorists but havent done much in R & D to combat terrorism. since 9/11 we responded swiftly in developing new technologes to combat terrorism. must be the money problems for Russia.

Russia is still going through rough economic waters, but they have a lot of well-educated people and a lot of high-tech development experience, it's not suprising that they come still come up with some pretty advanced, slick stuff.

Remember they spent the better part of the last century trying to compete technologically with the US, no mean feat considering the technological capacity and resources the US has.

Their space program has been especially successful, witness all the US and European joint ventures with them. Who would have thought in the 1960's that the Atlas, quitessential rocket of the Cold War, would be flying in 2005 with a Russian engine?

sorry ,I dont agree to this comment of yours , most people in this forum are not aware of the Russian development in economy and defense spending since 1998 (mainly due to US backed anti Russian propaganda in the Media )....however a lot is yet to be done

He is a copy paste of one of my earlier post

Russian Economy:
From 1998 onwards (that is after president Putin took his post ) Russia has continuously shown a record high growth in her Economy :

1 GPD growth rate has been approx 6% since 1998 (sometimes even 7%)

2 Industrial growth rate has been 6% since 1998

3 most of the external debts has been cleared BEFORE TIME (i ll like to add that the US is in BAD condition in this respect )

4 Investment ratings has improved (including Standard and Poor's) simultaneously (even after the Yokos case )

5 Russia today has the second highest amount Gold and hard currency reserves in the planet (only after Japan)

6 Russia is the second largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia and with the oil prices hitting record levels with no chances of falling in the near future ....Russia will very soon catch up western Europe .

I personally agree with our Defense minister Mr Ivanov .... today Russia has got the Funds(some times more than that ) she needs ...until now we lack an efficient system to use them where its needed (and prevent them from being used where it isn’t needed)

Defense spending
As a consequence of Improving economy the defense spending has incresed a lot (20% each year since 2002) there has been 40% increase in 2005 ...20% increase is schduled for 2006

according to most analysts Russia is the second largest defense spender in the world

1 According to the strategy page Russian budget is 70 Bn $ 2nd largest in the world followed by China (40bn $)
Link :
Russian budget :
www.strategypage.com...

Chinese budget :
www.strategypage.com...

2 According to this link too Russian budget is the second largest (65.2 Bn $)followed by China (56 Bn $)
www.globalissues.org...

3 According to this link Russia(50bn $ )spends slightly less than China(51Bn $)
64.177.207.201...

but the figures are 2002 figures ...since then Russian Defense budget has increased by approx 20% per year and in 2005 it has been increased by 40%

4 this link puts Russia(70 Bn $) in third position after Saudi Arabia (72 bn $) China lies in 5th position (40bn $)

I've been to Russia, twice. I've traveled from Denmark across Sweden, took a ship to Helsinki Finland and then a train down to St Petersburg. I took another trip to Moscow about 2 years ago and spent two weeks in Russia in the countryside. I will tell you that from what I've seen of Russia the larger cities appear to be doing very well, but you get into the countryside and that's when you see how people are really living. The impoverished looking little towns like Ryazan and others I passed through give a better picture of how Russia is really doing. What did amaze me was the mass building of rat cage size apartment complexes. Especially in St Petersburg. I was very surprised when visiting a friend's apartment there how small and very simple his place was. When I stepped out onto his balcony I could see numerous complexes like his being built. But this is in the cities. You get into the countryside and it's a totally different story. You can give all kinds of numbers and statistics about how the economy is growing but I ask you when was the last time you took a stroll through your countryside? If you do becareful of the roads because they are pretty rough. I recently read that Russia has increased it's defense spending by a considerable margin. And I just wondered how much increase has gone into spending to better the infastructure? I've also been to the US, Poland, Iceland, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines by the way.

Well, I don't doubt the Russian economy has improved since 1998, but I still don't think it's where it ought to be, considering Russia's resources and technological sophistication. I suppose it will take a while.

hello there prelude.
first off, i'm not deltaboy...but a couple of days ago i ran across
these 3 futuristic items.... call them weapons or call them devices,
whatever you like
these are generally termed NoN-Lethal , but i guess they could be used
for crowd control or disabling terrorists, whatever is in need.

www.usatoday.com...

Energy beam weapon may lower Iraq civilian deaths

Active Denial System (ADS), delivers an energy beam which causes a person to feel the sensation of pain akin to a hot light bulb placed on the skin,
ADS even operates beyond the range of small arms fire. - Being a non-lethal weapon, ADS, may find use in civilian crowd control, and other
situations with criminals, hostage takers,
perhaps an ADS device could have prevented the London murder of the
Brazilian mistaken as a suicide bomber.

* i'm not sure why...but i have a note saying this other link is related:
www.raidersnewsupdate.com...

Piezer: An untethered electro-muscular disruption non-lethal stungun.
www.technovelgy.com...

Inertial Capacitive Incapacitor/: It is effectively a Taser
without the wires, since it carries its own electrical charge.
www.technovelgy.com...

page thru that 'technovelgy.com' site, there maybe several other things of interest in your line of thinking & interest

Well lets put it this way, its sure a lot better then it used to be, the problem with what you were saying about russias natural stores, of gold and oil, is mainly that its hard to get to, due to the enviroment, which surely makes it harder to exploit.

Russia has been dealing with islamic terrorists much before the US..

Btw..for how long did Russia occupy Afghanistan and how many troops did they lose in the first two years of occupation?

QUOTE :" The show presented a selection of weapons and military equipment, many of which have no analogues in the world."

the " underwater rifle " is indeed superior to anything that the west has publicised

BUT the surerior marine preformance comes at a high price of pathetic preformance in air , low ammo capacity - oversized / over weight / over cumbersome magazine

if i ran the zoo , i would go for a conventional long arm for " dry " ops and the much more managable H&K underwater pistol

all the other technologies have western " mirror programs " with similar or even in cases surerior preformance and capabilities .

russian robotics and soldier protection lags far nehind western programs and the " acid test " of thier none lethal weapons was the moscow thertre seIge - OOOPS

QUOTE :" Russia has won foreign markets in over 50 states, "

irrelevant argument , there are many reasoins for this , starting with hold over alegiences / buying paterns from the cold war to cost and reluctance of wesyern nations to approve arms exports to certain states

in short - many nations buy former soviet , because they always have , cannot afford anything else , or are on western " embargo " lists

Sorry to disapoint you guys, but much of what is or was on display, is not new technology. It is just a revamp of old kit that was put in to mothballs until financing could be arranged.

The underwater rifle I saw about 15 years ago along with an equally impressive underwater pistol. I believe they all work on the same principle as the SBS/SEAL H&K P11 7.62mm underwater pistol. (Source DRJ in-house DSDC(L) magazine)

The underwater rifle has its uses. It all just depends on what you need.

Russia altrough behind the US in more areas than they are ahead of them still make quality weapons and there is no reason that with theire increased millitairy spending in a country where everything is cheaper can design new weapons which can compete with the latest western fighters ships and the rest.
